Here is an off the beaten path town in Russia, which is a great idea for a one day trip from Moscow. Myshkin is a must see destination for cruise ships circulating along Volga river as it has a unique Russian atmosphere and is full of interesting museums.
Myshkin is a town of mice due to the legend about the Russian tzar of the 16th century.
The city has a museum which has the richest collection of mouse-related items from around the world. There are hundreds of mice figures made of different materials using diverse art techniques. And more museums which will let you feel the Russian atmosphere...

At the end of the day, we stop in Mychkine, a town of 6000 inhabitants which is located after the Rybinsk reservoir on the Baltic-Volga canal. This city has developed a quality craftsmanship, in particular in pottery, forged objects, the making of Valenki which are filled boots, and in the works which result from the weaving of flax.
Myshkin is a town and the administrative center of Myshkinsky District in Yaroslavl Oblast, Russia, located on the steep left bank of the Volga. Population: 5,932 (2010 Census) 6,076 (2002 Census) 6,340 (1989 Census).
Tourism and culture

The town attracts a significant number of tourists usually arriving by river cruise ships. Myshkin retains architectural features characteristic for the 19th century Russia. It also features a number of museums. One of them is the unique Mouse Museum (the name of the town is derived from the word мышь (mysh) meaning mouse in Russian). There are also a Museum of Valenki (valenki being a type of Russian felt boots), an ethnographic museum, an art gallery, an open air retro car museum and more.

я продолжаю рассказ об автопутешествии из Москвы на север России - нашем самом интересном приключении 2020 года.
Представляю Вашему вниманию фильм о небольшом уютном провинциальном городке - Мышкин, мимо которого © Владимир Кот, ну никак проехать не мог!

Мышкин - небольшой городок и по праву является неотъемлемой частью Золотого кольца России. Находится в Ярославской области на берегу реки Волги. Население города около 6 тыс. человек, а площадь - всего 5 квадратных километров! До Ярославля по трассе около 100км. В экономическом развитии Мышкина основным направлением является туризм. Многие туры по Золотому кольцу России включают в маршруты этот город.
За прошедшие годы, Мышкин из малоизвестного городка превратился в популярный туристический центр, знаменитый по всей России и за рубежом. За эти годы был создан целый ряд интересных туристических объектов и несколько программ (маршрутов) по достопримечательностям города.
Мышкин посещает до 150 тысяч туристов ежегодно.
Согласно легенде, поселение было основано в конце XV века каменщиком Мышкиным, одним из тех, кто строил Успенский собор в Москве.
По другой легенде, один князь (предположительно, Фёдор Михайлович Мстиславский) прилёг отдохнуть на берегу Волги, проснулся от того, что по его лицу проползла мышка. Вначале он рассердился, но потом увидел, что мышка спасла его от подползающей змеи.
Становление Мышкина как крупного туристического объекта началось совсем недавно, в 1995г., а уже в следующем году прошел первый международный фестиваль «Мышь-96».

Город-музей Мышкин определенно не готов мириться со статусом одного из самых маленьких городов Ярославской области. Около 30 лет Мышкин является крупным туристическим центром России.
Происхождение и название города связывают с красивой легендой: некий князь как-то раз прилег отдохнуть на берегу Волги и проснулся от того, что по нему проползла мышка. Вначале он разозлился, а после понял, что она уберегла его от подползающей змеи. В благодарность за спасение жизни князь приказал построить здесь часовню, а само место назвал Мышкин.
