Known as the “Venice of the East,” Suzhou indisputably lives up to its canal-city name. Resting 13 feet (4 m) above sea level, almost half of the 3,276-square-mile (8,488-sq-km) city of Suzhou is covered by water — 42.5 percent to be exact — making it a top-ranking, water-rich Chinese destination.
Taihu Lake, nestled in southwestern Suzhou, covers a vast area of 902 square miles (2,336 sq km), making it China’s third largest body of fresh water. The Yangtze River, the largest river in China and one of the most spectacular rivers in the world, runs along Suzhou’s northernmost boundary and empties into the East China Sea.
Another main waterway — the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal — holds the title of longest canal in the world. This UNESCO World Heritage Site flows from north to south and remains a vital trade route and popular tourist attraction.
Suzhou’s immense expanses of water bless the area with ideal conditions for growing, fishing and farming.
More than 712,058 acres within Suzhou’s boundaries are used for cultivation. Fifty-five percent of Suzhou’s landscape is made up of gently sloping, low-lying plains, while a mere 2.7 percent of the land is graced by mountainous terrain.
Suzhou is divided into ten sections — six districts and four county-level (satellite) cities. The districts surround the old town and city center, while the cities line the outer edge of Suzhou.
All sections are located within Suzhou’s jurisdiction and abound with culture, festivals and attractions.
The Wujiang District, positioned on the southeastern bank of Taihu Lake, is home to the thousand-year-old water town of Tongli, famous for hundreds of well-preserved gardens, temples and mansions.
The Wuzhong District is located along southern edge of Suzhou’s old town and the eastern shore of Taihu Lake. Adding to the district’s lure are the scenic zones of West Hill, East Hill and Guangfu, along with Qionglong Mountain and the charming water town of Luzhi.
Moving towards the city center is the Gusu District. Formerly the Pingjiang, Canglang and Jinchang districts, this newly merged district is famed for its rich roster of culture. From the Silk Museum and Humble Administrator’s Garden to the Hanshan Temple and the Lingering Garden, this district is home to an incredible wealth of Suzhou’s delicate history dating back thousands of years.
It's all fun and games at Suzhou Industrial Park District. Identified as SIP, this district (or zone) is home to Suzhou Ferris Wheel Park, an amusement park with a bevy of thrill rides, among them Asia’s largest Ferris wheel, which overlooks scenic Jinji Lake.
Attracting major industries and tech-savvy crowds is the Suzhou Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone, shortened to Suzhou New District. A vast contrast from the historical relics that surround it, SND is an up-and-coming ultramodern oasis. When development completes, the zone will feature soaring architecture, verdant gardens and tree-lined parks.

Chengdu's Most Delicious Town! Luodai Ancient Town (洛带古镇)
Chengdu has a lot of yummy food spots, but Luodai Ancient Town (洛带古镇), the world's largest Hakka town, is the best! There may not be a lot of variety in this tasty town, but what they do have is some of the most delicious food I've had in Sichuan or China altogether, primarily Shangxin Bean Jelly and Swan Egg. Furthermore, it's also a relaxing getaway from Chengdu with tranquil spots, such as guild halls and the Hakka Park.
If you want to get here from the city, I recommend taking Subway line four to Xihe and then taking a Didi or taxi from there for a 15-minute ride costing around 20 RMB. If you prefer, you could take a Didi or taxi straight from the city for around 100 RMB. Also, Xinnanmen (新南门) Station has buses from central Chengdu straight to the ancient town for around 5 RMB.

In this video, me and friends visit the city of Suzhou, Jiangsu, China. We don't usually work weekends, and since its very hot we decided to go on little trip to Suzhou to the Marriott hotel there. I've lived in China for a little while now, so I've visited Suzhou a few times, but it's the first time coming to Marriott hotel here. I have to say I really enjoyed myself here, the staff were very friendly, the food was great, and it was an all you can eat!
I plan to visit more cities in China while I'm here, as there so much to see and do here in China, and for so cheap.

I travel to Suzhou on the high speed train and then proceed to travel on all of the five metro lines and visit the Pingjiang tourist area.
Suzhou is a major city in southern Jiangsu province, East China. Suzhou is the most populous city in Jiangsu, and a major economic center and focal point of trade and commerce.
Administratively, Suzhou is a prefecture-level city with a population of 6,715,559 in the city proper, and a total resident population of 12,748,262 as of the 2020 census in its administrative area. The city jurisdiction area's north waterfront is on a lower reach of the Yangtze whereas it has its more focal south-western waterfront on Lake Tai – crossed by several waterways, its district belongs to the Yangtze River Delta region. Suzhou is now part of the Greater Shanghai metro area, incorporating most of Changzhou, Wuxi and Suzhou urban districts plus Kunshan and Taicang, with a population of more than 38,000,000 residents as of 2020. Founded in 514 BC, Suzhou has had a long and productive history. Local museums host abundant displays of its relics and many sites of historical interest exist. Around AD 100, during the Eastern Han dynasty, it became one of the ten largest cities in the world, mostly due to emigration from northern China. Since the 10th century, Suzhou has been an important center of China's industry and foreign trade. During the late 15th century to the 19th century, Suzhou was a national economic, cultural, and commercial center, as well as the largest non-capital city in the world, until it was overtaken by Shanghai. Since major economic reforms began in 1978, Suzhou has become one of the fastest growing major cities in the world, with GDP growth rates of about 14% in the past 35 years. With high life expectancy and per capita incomes, Suzhou's Human Development Index ratings is roughly comparable to a moderately developed country, making it one of the most highly developed and prosperous cities in China.

Gorgeous Wooden Water Town - The First Town On The Yangtze River - Lizhuang Ancient Town (China)
In this China travel vlog, I visit Lizhuang ancient town in Yibin, 150 miles from Chengdu. This place is known as the First Town on the Yangtze and was a major safe haven and cultural center during the Sino-Japanese War. It also has plenty of good food and is considered the home of three whites: white cake, white liquor and white meat.

My hotel I stayed at was 李庄古韵酒店 for 188 RMB per night. I enjoyed it, but because it was right next to the street it was a little noisy. However, you can also book a hotel with a river view for over 100 RMB more, which I suspect would be quieter.

The town of Mudou is known as Duchuan, Chaize, Xiangxi and Xujiang in ancient times. It is a town under the jurisdiction of Wuzhong District, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province, China. It is adjacent to the western part of Suzhou city to the east (12 km from Suzhou city center and 10.8 km from Wuzhong district) and only a few kilometers from Taihu Lake to the west. After the adjustment of administrative division in 2007, the area under the jurisdiction of Mudu town is 70.3 square kilometers, with a population of 80,000, and 8 neighborhood committees and 10 villages.
The name of Mukdou comes from the fact that during the Spring and Autumn Period, the King of Wu used the sacred wood from the State of Yue as the construction material to build the Gusu Terrace, and the wood blocked the river for 3 years, thus the name. The town was founded in the Northern Song Dynasty and was under the jurisdiction of Wu County for a long time. The prosperous picture of Gusu painted by Xu Yang Yu during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty (also known as Shengshi Zisheng Picture) focuses on the prosperous scene of one village (Shanqian), one town (Mudu), one city (Suzhou) and one street (Shantang), of which Mudu accounts for one-half of the whole volume.
In 2001, Mudu town was listed as the second batch of famous historical and cultural towns in Jiangsu province. 2005, Mudu town was listed as the second batch of famous historical and cultural towns in China. 31th of the top 100 towns in China in 2019.
If you like to see the ancient street and taste the food, Qili Shantang has characteristics. If you want to see the gardens, Mudu Shantang has four major gardens, namely the Punggol Mansion, Yan Family Garden, Hong Drinking Mountain House and Ancient Pine Garden.
Ancient Charm of China - Hometown of Chinese Poetry, One of the famous historical and cultural towns
Qingyan Ancient Town, one of the most famous historical and cultural towns in Guizhou Province, lies in the southern suburb of Guiyang. As an ancient town, covering an area of 300 hectares (740 acres), Qingyan Ancient Town, together with Zhenyuan, Bing'an and Longli, is considered the top four old towns in Guizhou. Established in 1378 by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of China's Ming Dynasty (1358-1644), Qingyan was historically a key military fortress and trade hub.
Nowadays, because of its long history and strong cultural atmosphere, the town has become an attractive destination for numerous domestic and foreign tourists.
Dating back to the beginning of the Ming Dynasty (1368--1644), Qingyan town was built for military reasons. Because of its geographical location, Zhu Yuanzhang, the first emperor of Ming Dynasty, established it as a station for transferring military messages and to house a standing army. Through years of modification and repeated restoration, Qingyan Ancient Town has gradually become a distinctive ancient town with cultural features of Ming and Qing Dynasties (1644 - 1911).
Religious culture here is also quite rich, including Buddhism, Taoism, Catholicism and Christianity. If you are interested in Buddhism, you can take this chance to learn the typical Buddhism culture here. Also, you will be impressed by patter of the Taoists. What's more, you will be surprised to find that so many residents here are Catholic and Christian, since the Catholicism was introduced here in 1851 by a French churchman and the Christianity was introduced to Qingyan Ancient Town nearly 70 years ago.While traveling there, visitors will hear many stories of historical figures that were born or lived here. The first Zhuang Yuan (winner of the national examination) of Guizhou Province during the Qing Dynasty was Mr. Zhao Yijiong who was born and brought up in Qingyan Town. Zhou Enlai's father Zhou Maochen lived here.
