Let’s go

watch my video about the Mpigi Expressway here

Mpigi District is a district in Central Uganda. Like most other Ugandan districts, it is named after its ‘main town’, Mpigi.

Mpigi District has a total Land area

1,207 km2 with a Total population  of 215,500

Mpigi District is bordered by Wakiso District to the north and east, Kalangala District to the south, Kalungu District to the southwest, Butambala District to the west and Mityana District to the northwest.

In the 1970s Mpigi District comprised the Buganda Kingdom counties of Kyaddondo, Busiro, Mawokota, Butambala and Gomba. During the 1990s, Kyaddondo and Busiro were peeled off to form Wakiso District. In 2010, Gomba split off to form Gomba District and Butambala became Butambala District. Mawokota remained as the sole constituent of Mpigi

The major economic activity in Mpigi District is agriculture. The major crops include:

Sweetpotatoes,Beans,Cassava,Maize,Bananas,Groundnuts,Coffee,Cotton, Tomatoes, Cabbage, Onions, Avocado.

Maya is a town in the Central Region of Uganda. It is one of the urban centers in Wakiso District.

watch my video about Mpigi Expressway here

Maya is located in Maya Parish, Nsangi sub-county, Busiro County, Wakiso District, in Uganda’s Central Region. It is located along the Kampala–Masaka Road, approximately 27 kilometres , southwest of Kampala, the capital and largest city of Uganda. This is about 15 kilometres , by road, north-east of Mpigi Town, the nearest large town.

Maya is located in Wakiso District, one of the fastest growing districts in Uganda. This area is attractive to those looking for land to build residential houses, schools and commercial buildings. Maya is an area, in relative proximity to Kampala, situated on a major highway, where land prices are relatively affordable. This has also increased the number of land disputes in the area.

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics estimated the population of Maya at 3,100, in 2009.

The following points of interest are found within the town limits or near the town boundaries: (a) The offices of Maya Town Council (b) Maya Central Market (c) Fiduga Flower Plantation, a horticultural growing and exporting enterprise[11] (d) International Paramedical Institute (e) London College of St. Lawrence, a private, mixed, residential high school.

Nsangi is a town in the Central Region of Uganda. It is one of the urban centers in Wakiso District.

Nsangi is located in Nsangi Parish, Nsangi sub-county, Wakiso District, in Uganda’s Central Region. The town is situated on the tarmacked, all-weather Kampala–Masaka Road, approximately 25 kilometres (16 mi), south-west Kampala, Uganda’s capital and largest city. Nsangi is approximately 17 kilometres (11 mi), by road, north-east of Mpigi Town, the nearest large town.

In 2009, the population of Nsangi was estimated at 3,522, by the Uganda Bureau of Statistics.

Points of interest

The following points of interest are found within the own limits or near the town boundaries: (a) The administrative headquarters of Nsangi sub-county, an administrative unit of Wakiso District Administration (b) The offices of Nsangi Town Council (c) Nsangi Central Market (d) Chrysanthemums Uganda Limited – A horticultural farm belonging to the Madhvani Group (e) The Kampala-Masaka Road – The highway passes through town in a northeast to southwest direction (f) Nsangi Secondary School, a public, mixed, day high school.

In the environs of town and in the surrounding Nsangi sub-county and in neighboring Ssisa sub-county, many households have engaged in the growing of Khat, also known as Miraa, but is locally referred to as Mairungi or Mayirungi. The product is sold in Kampala to members of the Somali community in Kisenyi, a section of the city. Truck drivers from neighboring Kenya also buy it for personal use and for re-sale in Kenya, where its use is more prevalent. Local growers have built houses, schools and bought personal property from the sale of this product.

The Kampala Mpigi Expressway is finally constructed ! UGANDA CURRENT NEWS

The Kampala–Mpigi Expressway, also Busega–Mpigi Expressway, is a four-lane, dual carriage highway under construction in the Central Region of Uganda, connecting, Kampala, the capital city, and Mpigi, the headquarters of Mpigi District.

Kampala–Mpigi Expressway has a length of 22 mi (35 km). It was designated in 2020 and expected to be completed in 2023.

Major junctions include North end at Busega ,Kyengera and Nsangi While the South end Is at Mpigi.

The road starts at Busega, a neighborhood in Rubaga Division in the city of Kampala. It continues in a southwesterly direction, through Kyengera, Nabbingo and Nsangi to end at Mpigi, a distance of approximately 28.5 kilometres (18 mi). The expressway is a component of the Kampala–Masaka Road.

The current road is a two-lane single carriageway in good condition. The government of Uganda plans to widen the road to a four-lane dual carriage highway, as part of its efforts to decongest Kampala. The construction is planned to be funded under a public-private partnership arrangement.

The design includes four major interchanges at Nabbingo, Nsangi, Maya and Lugala. These interchanges will allow connection with the Kampala Northern Bypass Highway and the Entebbe–Kampala Expressway. The government of Uganda has secured funding of US$91 million (UShs322 billion) to fund the 23 kilometres (14 mi) section between Busega and Mpigi. The 9.5 kilometres (6 mi) section between Kibuye and Busega is to be expanded by China Communications Construction Company (CCCC), with funding from the Exim Bank of China, once CCCC has completed the Entebbe-Kampala Expressway.
