Monte San Nicola (Mount St.Nicholas) faunal reserve. The reserve, lying on the summit of hill, 290 metres (950 ft) high in the Murge plateau, is important for the presence of some endemic plants.

The area was first settled in about 500 BC as a fortified Messapian city. In order to improve communication with the East, between the years 108 and 110 AD, the Emperor Trajan ordered the construction of a Via Publica which was named after him. Castelmuzio - Trequanda (SI) -

???? About Bergamo ????
Bergamo, Italy is a city located in the Lombardy region of northern Italy. It is situated in the foothills of the Alps and is divided into two parts: the lower city (Città Bassa) and the upper city (Città Alta).
The lower city is a bustling modern center with wide streets, shops, and restaurants, while the upper city is a beautifully preserved medieval town with narrow cobblestone streets, historic buildings, and stunning views of the surrounding mountains.
Bergamo is known for its rich cultural heritage, including its art museums, historic churches, and the impressive Venetian walls that surround the old town. It is also famous for its local cuisine, including dishes like casoncelli (stuffed pasta) and polenta e osei (a dessert made with marzipan and chocolate).

Bergamo Lower Town
The lower town of Bergamo also offers historic charm. Centrally located - not far from Bergamo train station is the Piazza Vittorio Veneto with the Torre dei Caduti from 1924 in neoclassical architecture. The museum of the history of Bergamo is housed in the tower. All around are spacious streets, cafés, shops in a pedestrian zone and other sights such as the Porta Nuova. Shopping is particularly good between Via Sant'Alessandro, Via Borfuro, Viao Sant'Orsola and Via XX Settembre - many fashion brands in particular are at home here. A little further away is the 13th-18th century Monastery of San Benedetto. In the Church of Saints Bartholomew and Stephen you can discover a well-known panel painting by Lorenzo Lotto. Art exhibitions can be found in the Accademia Carrara, founded in 1769 by Count Giacomo. Both the upper and the lower town are lined with palazzi such as Palazzo Belli, Palazzo Camozzi, Palazzo Berizzi, Palazzo Benomi, Palazzo Agliardi, Palazzo Roncalli, Palazzo Scotti, Palazzo Suardi, Palazzo Moroni with garden and other palazzi.

At the gates of the city
The area of the Parco dei Colli lies north of the gates of the city of Bergamo. Colli means hills and that's exactly what's on the agenda here. Gentle and green hills, a natural and open place for hiking or cycling and discovering the surrounding nature, offers here away from mass tourism in Lombardy. From the highest mountain Canto Alto, which is 1,146 meters high, the view extends far over the Po Valley, in which Bergamo is also located, and on the other side to the Bergamasque Alps, which rise behind the hills. More leisurely walks are also possible in the Valle D'Astino or Valle Valmarina and in the Giongo Valley. Italian villas can be found in Mozzo and Torre Bondone, the Parco Faunistico Le Cornelle is in Valbrembo and monasteries can also be found in this area.

Castelmuzio - the Living Room Borgo

???? Castelmuzio is a tiny, charming hamlet in the municipality of Trequanda (Siena), dominating the Val d'Orcia from the border.

???? Dating back to the time of the Etruscans, in the 9th century it appears in the documents of the Badia Amiatina di San Salvatore, under the name of Casale Mustia. In the Archives of the State of Siena, in XI century, the name is Castel Mozzo.
Already property of the powerful family Cacciaconti della Scialenga, Castelmuzio passed to the Republic of Siena and in 1354 becoming property of the Hospice of Santa Maria della Scala.
For some time, it was ruled by the Salimbeni, then it was acquired by the Piccolomini who owned it until it was reconquered by Siena. With the defeat of the Republic of Siena, Castelmuzio was handed over by the Medici to the Lorena Grand Dukes.
During the 15th century the Confraternita della Santissima Trinità opened a hostel for pilgrims that followed the route called the Via Francigena, leading from France to Rome and the Holy Land.

???? In 2017 a group of smart women created Castelmuzio Borgo Salotto (literally: Living-Room borgo), an association of local entrepreneurs and residents with the common idea of treating the entire village as if it were their own home: there's an open air living room, right on the beautiful belvedere, with chairs, sofas and tables, free wifi and a small library, where you can spend some time relaxing and reading a book, and even a jewel public toilet with mosaic walls, fine ceramics, and artisanal doors and windows.

_________________________________________________________
