Is Cochem worth visiting?

Cochem is a charming town situated in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany. It is located on the banks of the Moselle River and is known for its picturesque scenery and well-preserved medieval architecture.

If you would like to support & donate my silly little videos:

Cochem, Germany - Altstadt (old town) & Moselle River Promenade

Our day trip to picturesque and charming Cochem, Germany. Located on the Moselle (aka Mosel) River, the town is dominated by the magnificent castle overlooking it: Reichsburg Castle, which has been in written existence since about the year 1050.

We strolled the Moselle Promenade area as well as the historic old town area. As always, Ed does the narration you hear, while I did the majority of the still photography and then edited everything for upload to You Tube.

The music you hear during the views of the still photos section, is from the free You Tube music library and is called Retreat by Jason Farnham.

GERMANY: Cochem - town on the Mosel

An impression of Cochem. More detailed videos of Cochem:

Cochem is a small traditional German town with half-timbered houses and an exceptionally scenic location on the river Mosel in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The town is situated in a valley and has an almost Mediterranean climate, with warm sunny days over a 9 month season, summers are mild to hot.

Cochem is the center of the Mosel wine trade and is surrounded by high elevations, steep vineyards.

Mosel is one of 13 German wine regions for quality wines and takes its name from the Mosel River. The wine region is Germany's third largest in terms of production but some consider it the leading region in terms of international prestige.

The steep river bank slopes that are scattered around the Mosel region are considered some of the most labor-intensive vineyards in the world. Mechanical harvesting is impractical and nearly seven times more man hours are needed in the Mosel than in flatter terrain. A benefit of the steep Mosel vineyards is that the incline allows for more direct sunlight to have contact with the vines.

The Mosel is a river flowing through France, Luxembourg, and Germany. It is a left tributary of the Rhine, which it joins at Koblenz. The Mosel twists and turns its way between Trier and Koblenz along one of Germany's most beautiful river valleys. Its hillsides are covered by terraced vineyards where some of the best Rieslings grow, and numerous ruined castles dominate the hilltops above wine villages and towns that line the riverbanks.

Cochem City Center and Old Town Walk, Germany, Summer 2022

Hi everyone,

We made this video in one of the oldest towns along the Moselle River in Germany: Cochem. It was first mentioned in the 800s but was founded during Celtic and Roman times already.
Today it is busy with tourists who like to explore the beautiful Old Town, taste some local wines (or homemade grape juice) and walk up the hill to the imperial castle above the city.
Cochem has a beautiful center with lots of shops selling anything to do with wine but also other types of souvenirs. Around the old market place there are also lots of cafes and restaurants to sit, rest, and watch the scenery.

We hope you will enjoy the video!

24 hours in Germany's best-kept-secret National Park

The Saxon Switzerland National Park is a famous tourist destination in Germany, but I didn't actually know it existed until I moved to East Germany and people kept talking about it. I took a weekend trip from Leipzig to Dresden & the Sächsische Schweiz in autumn to do the hikes to Bastei Bridge and Kuhstall.

German trains can be pretty cheap, especially if you travel in a group. DB day passes for within particular states: I took the RB to Dresden, Rathen & Bad Schandau Nationalparkbahnhof and also used the Leipzig S-Bahn to get home.

Bastei Brücke & Kuhstall hikes I followed on the Komoot app. They are both great day hikes in East Germany and possible as a day trip from Leipzig or Dresden.

I hope that you're doing well and staying safe.

Hiking 3,442 km Alone Across Germany in 165 Days

German filmmaker Enno Seifried has traveled the world, but he felt he didn’t know much about the world just beyond his doorstep. So, he decided to explore it and set out on a 165-day trek across Germany. He went from its northernmost point on the Island of Sylt in the North Sea to its southernmost point of Haldenwanger Eck in the Allgäu Alps. How does it feel to hike across an entire country? Enno filmed his experiences on his 3,442-kilometer journey and turned it into a documentary. We caught up with him on a hike through Saxon Switzerland National Park in the German state of Saxony.

B50 Morbach - Longkamp - Wittlich (Hochmoselübergang) (D)

The B50 is a German Bundesstrasse in the state of Rheinland-Pfalz. The B50 consists of two parts. The eastern part is 73 kilometers long and connects the A60/A1 motorway at Wittlich with the A61 at Rheinböllen. The western part is 55 kilometers long and connects the A60 motorway at Landscheid with the Luxembourg town of Vianden. This is the second video of the eastern part of the B50, a scenic route with multiple descents and climbs.

The video starts at the parking lot of Archäologiepark Belginum. There the B327 to Trier splits off from the B50 towards Liège. The first three kilometers we drive on a 1x2 road. After three kilometers the old B50-route splits off from the newly constructed Autobahnähnliche Straße in the direction of Wittlich. Construction of the B50n began in May 2003. The first 5 kilometers between Kreuz Wittlich and Platten were opened in 2014. The Hochmoselbrücke (litterally: high Moselle bridge) was opened to traffic on November 21, 2019.

The new road section only contains grade-separated connections and is more than 20 kilometers long. The older part at Platten connects seamlessly with the A60 motorway in the direction of Liège. The video ends at Rastplatz Fintenkapelle, the first service area on the A60.

=================================
