San Marino Vacation Travel Guide | Expedia

San Marino – With an area of just over 20 square miles, join us as we explore Europe’s third smallest country. Make no mistake, there’s no shortage of cool spots to check out.

When ready, browse vacation packages to San Marino:

Find the longstanding city-state, #SanMarino, in eastern Italy’s countryside. A #vacation here means enjoying age-old architecture, excellent food, and shopping delights.

Rising from the republic’s rolling hills is Mount Titano, where the country’s founder, Saint Marinus, sought refuge in the 3rd Century. Over the centuries, three towers were built to ward off invaders; today these towers watch over a country overflowing with history, culture and beauty.

Just beyond the towers lies the republic’s ancient capital, San Marino City. The heart and soul of this city is Liberty Square, home to the Statue of Liberty and the Palazzo Pubblico. Wherever you turn you’ll see tributes to the republic’s founder, no more so than in San Marino Basilica, where the bones of the saint now rest beneath the altar.

San Marino is a welcoming escape for lovers of art and history, and a tax-free haven for shoppers.

For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

Fun Fact: The site of today's Malpensa Airport has seen aviation since 1910 when the Caproni brothers flew their flying machine, the Cal biplane.

A lot of people have access to this lounge (which explains why it's so crowded).

We gained access to this lounge today because we are flying La Compagnie business class to Newark.

Did you know you can fly direct to Barcelona from here on Singapore Air? It's true!

Number 6.PONDER MODERN ART AT THE SAN MARINO NATIONAL GALLERY Ponder modern art at the San Marino National Gallery
The San Marino National Gallery has more than 1,000 pieces of modern and contemporary art. The collections from the 20th century have been put into four groups, each of which represents a different time in San Marino's history. Some of the best artists in Italy, like Renato Guttuso, Giuseppe Spagnulo, and Emilio Vedova, have pieces here. There are also works by local painters and sculptors to enjoy and this should be on your list of things to do.

Number 5. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF TAX-FREE SHOPPING
Take advantage of tax-free shopping
Take advantage of San Marino's tax-free shopping and spend money without feeling bad about it. When you look through the stalls at the Borgo Maggiore Market on Thursdays, you can find unique crafts, clothes, food, and much more. It dates back to 1243, when it was known for cattle trade fairs. Now, shoppers have a lot more options, which is great.

Number 4. TUCK INTO SEAFOOD AT THE OSTERIA LA TAVERNA
Tuck into seafood at the Osteria La Taverna
At Osteria La Taverna, which is in the middle of one of San Marino's main squares, you can get great seafood. With a glass of full-bodied sangiovese red in hand, the terrace is a great place to watch people or just take in the view of the Tuscan hills. Try the tasty spaghetti with seafood or the potato gnocchi with cod. The osteria also has regular theme nights, and the chef, Luigi Sartini, also runs the Michelin-starred restaurant Righi, which is right above the osteria.

Number 3. SIP WINE AT CONSORZIO VINI TIPICI
Sip wine at Consorzio Vini Tipici
This vineyard colony is a must see and thing to do for both wine experts and people who just like to drink wine. It is where all the winemakers from the Republic of San Marino work together. With high-quality grapes, the wines are the best in the business, and there are plenty of experts to help you choose the perfect drink. The Biancale di San Marino, which has a fruity taste, is a sure winner.

Number 2. RIDE THE SAN MARINO FUNICULAR
Ride the San Marino funicular
Take the cable car in San Marino and fly over the rooftops of Borgo Maggiore as you look out at the Adriatic coast. The funicular goes from a lower station in Borgo Maggiore to an upper station in the center of San Marino. Tourists and locals who need to get to work use the funicular. A word of advice: get to the parking lot early or you might miss out on a spot.

Number 1. STATUE OF LIBERTY, SAN MARINO
San Marino
One of San Marino's symbols, the Statue of Liberty, is in the square in front of the building. It is a statue made of Carrara marble. Countess Otilia Heyroth Wagener of Berlin gave it to the Republic of San Marino. This square is perfect because it has a beautiful view of the hills around it. In fact, the square is a natural balcony where you can see the view.

So these are the top 10 best things to do in San Marino. Do you agree with our list and think that viewing Statue of Liberty is this the best thing to do in San Marino? Share your views in the comments section below and don't forget to subscribe to our channel The Travel Boss. Thanks for watching.

The name Tellaro could derive from canvas (tela) for the trade in cloths and fabrics, or from the Latin telus to indicate the dart, the arrow used for defense, or even from the Etruscan or paleo-Ligurian tular which means village border .

Probably of Greek origin, however, the Latin name of nearby Lerici, portus Illycis, perhaps from Iliakos, “Trojan”, signifying its fabulous foundation by a group of exiles from the Trojan war.

In 7th century. BC, the Gulf is occupied by the Etruscans who founded the city of Luni, to whom Lerici (the port of arrival for Greek and Phoenician traffic) links its history for many centuries. Lerici will then belong to the Ligurians and finally to the Romans, who made it an important military and commercial base.

In the 10th century A.D., Berengario is the first to note his possessions, including that of Barbazzano (an ancient Roman settlement) which will be at the origin of Tellaro.

In 1152, Lerici with its port becomes part of the Republic of Genoa but remains disputed by the Pisans. In 1398, the castle of “Telaro” .....................................
