The Villa di Montevettolini is a Medici villa in the comune of Monsummano Terme, Tuscany, central Italy.
== History ==
Also called Monte Veturino, the villas was built after 1595 by commission of Grand Duke Ferdinand I of Tuscany on a high hill at the feet of Monte Albano, where a large hunting reserve (the so-called Parco Reale) was located. The architect was Gherardo Mechini, a pupil of Bernardo Buontalenti, who included some pre-existing structures from the medieval borough, such as a fortress and a stretch of walls. The building was finished with the 1620s. The result was a villa with a severe and compact appearance, with a polygonal plan, resembling more a defensive fortress than a patrician residence. It was used as administrative base for the Medici estates in the area.

Montecatini Alto is a fraction of the municipality of Montecatini Terme . In ancient times it was called Montecatini Val di Nievole and was the capital of an autonomous municipality until 1940. To the plebiscite of 1860 for the annexation of Tuscany to Sardinia the yes did not obtain, even if for a short time, the majority of those entitled (925 out of 1883), a symptom of the opposition to annexation
The original commune extended for about 30 km² and had about 5400 inhabitants in 1905. Its territory was bounded by the municipalities of Marliana , Serravalle Pistoiese , Monsummano Terme , Buggiano , Massa and Cozzile and Ponte Buggianese and included, in addition to the chief town, the localities of Bagni di Montecatini (the current Montecatini Terme ) and Pieve a Nievole .
In 1905 these two fractions were erected in autonomous municipalities; in 1940 the municipality of Montecatini Val di Nievole was definitively suppressed and its territory divided between those of Montecatini Terme (name adopted by the municipality of Bagni di Montecatini in 1934) and Pieve a Nievole . At the time of the deletion, the municipality had just over 3200 residents.

Montevettolini is a hamlet of Monsummano Terme in the province of Pistoia.
The village still consists of the ancient fortress on top of a hill, located at km 4.35 on the state road 436 towards Fucecchio. The fortification surrendered spontaneously to Florence at the beginning of the 16th century and in 1597 Ferdinando I de' Medici had the Medici villa of Montevettolini built there, which incorporated the village.
