Sitting at the westernmost tip of the Algarve, Sagres is the wildest and most untamed destination. Windswept, barren landscapes, towering cliffs, and rough waters are what set this place apart.
9. Portimão
Visit the Portimão museum if you want to learn more about its fishing and canning tradition, or go to the medieval Fort of Santa Catarina de Ribamar for panoramic views. But the biggest draw is undoubtedly Portimão’s nearby Praia da Rocha.
8. Faro & Ria Formosa
From cobblestone streets and cozy squares to a wide range of lagoons and wetlands, Faro boasts a blend of city and nature activities. We really enjoyed a boat tour in the Ria Formosa Natural Park, which is home to canals, marshland and small islands.

7. Aljezur & West Coast Beaches
With wide-open beaches and sheer sea cliffs, the West Coast of the Algarve is a true hidden gem. It’s also another prime destination for surfing. We recommend Arrifana Beach if you’re a beginner or intermediate surfer.
6. Fishermen’s Village Ferragudo
With its white houses reaching down to the river, walking around this authentic fishing town is an experience in itself. But Praia Grande is also a great place to relax and enjoy watersports.
5. Lagos & Ponta da Piedade
Lagos has a wide range of cafés and restaurants to choose from, but also some historical sights, such as castle walls, churches, and a fort. Combine this with its spectacular coastline, filled with steep cliffs, caves, and grottoes, and you’ve got one of the most scenic destinations in the Algarve.

4. Serra de Monchique
Apart from beautiful beaches, the Algarve is also home to a rolling mountain range. The town of Monchique lies in pristine nature, surrounded by lush green forests. It’s an idyllic and authentic mountain town with sweeping vistas and a network of nature trails.

3. Silves
This historic town cascades down the hill, flowing out from beneath the beautiful Silves Castle (Castelo de Silves). Enjoy your time learning about the town’s history inside the castle walls as well as on the cobbled streets surrounding it.
2. The 7 Hanging Valleys
This 12km out-and-back hike takes between 4 to 6 hours to complete if you do the full route, and includes views of the Atlantic ocean as well as limestone rock formations. There is some elevation gain and loss as you climb up and down each of the valleys, but overall the hike is easy to moderate.

The Benagil Cave is a world-class natural attraction in the Algarve. Although it’s only a short distance from Benagil Beach, you still need a kayak, stand up paddle board, or guided boat tour to reach the caves safely.

Reserva Natural do Estuario do Sado (Setubal)
It is the 1st stop on our trip to algarve. This natural reserve protects the Sado Estuary, a biologically rich area of wetlands extending east and south of Setúbal. With more than 250 avian species, this is a prime spot for birdwatching in Portugal and definitely a highlight of the trip !
Castelo de Sesimbra (Sesimbra)
The Moorish castle of Sesimbra stands high above the pretty fishing village and has guarded the town since its early founding. The castle was one of the first victories for the Christian conquest of Portugal over the Moors in the 12th century and its strategic positioning was important for the defence of early Portugal. For visitors the who make the 230m climb up to the castle will be rewarded of stunning panoramic views over Sesimbra and the surrounding coastline.
Cabo da Roca (The end of the world)
The Cabo da Roca is the wild and rugged headland that marks the most westerly point of mainland Europe. It is a must see for every road trip in Portugal. These windswept cliffs and barren lands were believed to be the edge of the world up until the 14th century, and even today the region possesses a remote and untamed atmosphere. The road on the way there itself is a wonderful trip.
Cabo de São Vicente (Sagres)
Located a few kilometres northwest of Sagres is the historic Cabo de São Vicente (Cape of Saint Vincent) is a craggy, windswept headland at the spot which claims to be the most south-westerly point of mainland Europe. Until the end of the 14th century many believed this place to be the end of the world - come here on the right day and you might think they had a point.
Boca do Inferno (Cascais)
The Boca do Inferno is a unique sea-arch and cliff formation close to the town of Cascais. The coastline to the west of Cascais comprises of high eroded cliffs, battered by the full force of the Atlantic Ocean. The Boca do Inferno was originally a sea cave, which subsequently collapsed leaving a chasm and sea arch. Into this opening the Atlantic waves continually crash, and during violent winter storms water explodes upwards similar to an erupting volcano – hence the overdramatic name of Boca do Inferno (Hell’s Mouth).
Monchique
A Portugal road trip wouldn't me complete... Rising up between the Algarve and neighbouring Alentejo region is the Serra de Monchique, a range of rolling mountains clad in heavy forest. Here you will find the highest point of the trip on the Algarve; standing at 902m (2,959ft) is the peak of Fóia with its all encompassing views which span the Algarve's south and west coasts all the way to Cabo de São Vicente.

4K | FUSETA, ALGARVE | PORTUGAL Travel Guide 2021
Wecome to Fuseta and A&A Travelling. This unspoilt fishing town is located 20 km east of Faro and is a great introduction to the eastern part of the Algarve coast. Visiting the town and its beaches can be a great daytrip if you wish to experience some of the local Algarve many of the more famous coastal towns are lacking. Fuseta has some stunning beaches which are easy to reach and perfect for spending a day on the beach.
The town is easy to get to, by road, bus, train and once you arrive it is easy to get around.
What to do and see in Fuseta?
Walking along the marina, you will find open air restaurants grilling fresh fish close to the small harbour. The restaurants alongside the marina can get busy at peak times, so if you`re planing to have lucnh we recommend you come early. It`s also alongside the marina where you`ll find the various tickets offices for the ferries and boat trips to the Ria Formosa.
-Mercado Municipal
Fuseta`s market is definitely worth visitng. While walking along the marina you will probably see the fisherman unloading their boats, this is where the fish will be heading. It`s from the market where many of the nearby restaurants buy the fish from.
-Praia da Fuseta(Fuseta`s Beach)
It`s the town closest beach. Being a lagoon-side kind of beach, the water is warmer and no waves. This is a great beach for families with young children and is polpular with the locals. There is also a small restaurant on the beach.
-Praia da Ilha da Fuseta(Fuseta Island Beach)
is the beach on the island opposite Fuseta. This is an awesome stretch of sand. In the central area, you`ll find a small bar, sun loungers to rent and well kept facilities. The beach is also lifeguarded during the summer months. There are regular boat services from Fuseta`s marina and Praia da Ilha da Fuseta, costing around 2€ for a return ticket.
-Fuseta or Fuzeta?
Once you arrive, you will probably be surprised, because in the town they use the Names Fuseta and Fuzeta in some of the signs around the town switching between the two spellings. The original
and historical name was Fozeta which came from Foz da Eta.
