Montenegro Mountains

Montenegro adventure with full of memories and beautiful places.Exploring Montenegro mountains and famous tourist spot destination.

Tara bridge
As the roadway on this bridge stands 172 metres (564 ft) above the Tara River, there are really miraculous views on the Tara River Canyon in all seasons but it seems even more special and more fabulous in autumn (October) when some really amazing autumn colours adorn this wild landscape. You can try a zip line adventure from one side of the canyon to another if you are an adrenaline seeker.

Durmitor national park
This breathtaking national park was formed by glaciers and is traversed by rivers and underground streams. Along the Tara river canyon, which has the deepest gorges in Europe, the dense pine forests are interspersed with clear lakes and harbour a wide range of endemic flora.

Lovcen national park
The national park Lovcen covers the central and the highest part of the mountain Lovcen and with total area of 62.2 square kilometres. Established in 1952, Lovcen is also full of the rich historical, cultural and architectural heritage protected by the national park. The area has numerous elements of national construction such as the old houses and village guvna. The cottages in katuns, summer settlements of cattle breeders are also typical for this part of Montenegro.

The entrance fee for the national park is 2€ (children 0-7 years – free).

The visitors of the park have the Information Centre at their disposal. The centre has a guide service which is available to organised groups as well as to the tourists. The tourists can also get guide maps with marked walking and hiking trails and various advertising materials about the park.

What to do at National park Lovcen?

A visit to Njegos Mausoleum:

The biggest and most important monument of Lovcen national park is Petar Petrovic Njegos (famous poet and philosopher) Mausoleum. The magnificent mausoleum is situated at the top of its second-highest peak, Jezerski Vrh (1657 m). Getting there takes a bit of a hard work because you need to climb 461 steps up to the entry where two granite giants guard the tomb of Montenegro's greatest writer. Don't miss visiting this attraction since the view from the mausoleum is breathtaking and it gives you the best panoramic view of Montenegro.

map of Montenegro

Montenegro (/ˌmɒntɪˈniːɡroʊ, -ˈneɪɡroʊ, -ˈnɛɡroʊ/ (audio speaker iconlisten); Montenegrin: Crna Gora,[a] Црна Гора, lit. 'Black Mountain', pronounced [tsr̩̂ːnaː ɡǒra]; Albanian: Mali i zi) is a country in Southeastern Europe. It is located on the Adriatic Sea and is a part of the Balkans, sharing borders with Serbia to the northeast, Bosnia and Herzegovina to the north and west, Kosovo[c] to the east, Albania to the southeast, the Adriatic Sea and Croatia to the southwest, and maritime boundary with Italy. Podgorica, the capital and largest city, covers 10.4% of Montenegro's territory of 13,812 square kilometres (5,333 sq mi), and is home to roughly 30% of its total population of 621,000.

During the Early Medieval period, three principalities were located on the territory of modern-day Montenegro: Duklja, roughly corresponding to the southern half; Travunia, the west; and Rascia proper, the north. The Principality of Zeta emerged in the 14th and 15th centuries. From the late 14th century to the late 18th century, large parts of southern Montenegro were ruled by the Venetian Republic and incorporated into Venetian Albania. The name Montenegro was first used to refer to the country in the late 15th century. After falling under Ottoman rule, Montenegro regained its independence in 1696 under the rule of the House of Petrović-Njegoš, first as a theocracy and later as a secular principality. Montenegro's independence was recognised by the Great Powers at the Congress of Berlin in 1878. In 1910, the country became a kingdom.

After World War I, the kingdom became part of Yugoslavia. Following the breakup of Yugoslavia, the republics of Serbia and Montenegro together proclaimed a federation. Following an independence referendum held in May 2006, Montenegro declared its independence and the confederation peacefully dissolved.

Montenegro has an upper middle-income economy and ranks 48th in the Human Development Index. It is a member of the United Nations, NATO, the World Trade Organization, the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the Council of Europe, and the Central European Free Trade Agreement. Montenegro is also a founding member of the Union for the Mediterranean, and is currently in the process of joining the European Union Montenegro is divided into twenty-four municipalities (opština). This includes 21 District-level Municipalities and 2 Urban Municipalities, with two subdivisions of Podgorica municipality, listed below. Each municipality can contain multiple cities and towns. Historically, the territory of the country was divided into nahije.

Montenegro is a country in the Balkans, on the Adriatic Sea. It borders Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina to the north, Serbia to the northeast, Kosovo to the east, and Albania to the south. To the west of Montenegro is the Adriatic Sea.

Montenegro's tourism suffered greatly from Yugoslavia's tragic civil war in the 1990s. In recent years, along with the stabilized situation in the region, tourism in Montenegro has begun to recover, and Montenegro is being re-discovered by tourists from around the globe.

In 2007, the country received peak level of tourism which almost reached pre-war volumes. As a result, many roads have been renovated (reducing driving time) and many hotels have been constructed or renovated.

=====
Montenegro may be small in terms of area, but it boasts stunning mountainous landscapes, dramatic coast lines, historic monuments and truly beautiful walled towns. The Montenegro coast is just as gorgeous as that of its better known neighbour, Croatia, and it is for good reason that its main tourist destinations can get crowded in summer. Nevertheless, if you can't visit at another time, don't let their popularity hold you back. Even the largest of cruise ship crowds will not stop you from enjoying this country's magnificent Riviera and Medieval coast towns, especially if you're willing to get up early and do your sightseeing ahead of the others.

Of the country's many churches and monasteries, the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of Ostrog deserves special attention. It's spectacularly located against a practically vertical background, some 15 km from Nikšić. Founded in the 17th century, it's one of the most visited pilgrimage destinations on the Balkans and boasts a magnificent view over the Bjelopavlići plain.

The Riviera
===========
The Bay of Kotor is probably one of the prettiest bays in the world. On its deepest point lies the equally stunning town of Kotor, a beautifully preserved fortified, Medieval town with a vibrant history. Wandering through its labyrinth of narrow and cobblestoned streets, you'll come across lively piazzas, many ancient churches and lots of pleasant bars and restaurants. Don't miss the 12th century St. Tryphon Cathedral, the Church of St. Luke and the Orthodox St Nicholas Church. Kotor is locked between the blue sea on one side, and a dramatically steep cliff on the other. It's a heavy walk uphill, but climbing the 1500 steps will allow you to see the old fortifications on the top as well as provide some amazing views over the bay.

Budva is the country's most popular tourist destination and boast some great beaches as well as a lovely, walled town centre. The old town centre is picturesquely located on a rather small peninsula, and its narrow, winding lanes hide a multitude of historic buildings, churches and small squares. Among the most interesting monuments here are the 7th century St. John's Church, the 8th century Santa Marija of Punta and the 12th century Church of St. Sava. The medieval town fortress is referred to as Citadela and right next to it is the colourful Church of the Holy Trinity, built in 1804. Budva's over 30 km long Riviera has been called The Riviera of Sandy Beaches and is dotted with lovely hamlets and a wealth of historic monuments. A strip of hotels and restaurants separates it from the impressive mountain massifs of Lovcen. From Budva, it's an easy bus ride to the unique Sveti Stefan resort.

The small but gorgeous town of Perast saw some of its best architecture arise in the 17th and 18th century, when it belonged to the Republic of Venice. That typically Venetian, baroque architecture has been wonderfully preserved, with highlights including the Bujovic, Zmajevic, Badovic and Smekja Palaces which were once owned by wealthy maritime captains. All the way in the south, Ulcinj is one of the Adriatic's oldest towns, with a delightful centre and lots of natural beauty around. It also makes a good base from where to explore the old centre of nearby Bar, Lake Skadar or even a cross border visit to Albania. Although less spectacular than nearby Kotor, Herceg Novi (roughly translated as New Castle) is another charming Montenegrin town with a beautiful old centre and a good number of interesting churches, squares and fortresses.

Skara Paragliding 2021 Mojkovac

The municipality of Mojkovac covers an area of 367 km2 (142 sq mi) and according to the number of inhabitants (10 015 / 2003g) belongs among the smaller municipalities in Montenegro. The city resort is located at an altitude of 853 m (2,799 ft). Its mathematical position is determined by geographical coordinates: the northernmost point is located at 43005 'SGŠ, which is at the same time the lowest point of the municipality, located on the banks of the Tara River; the southernmost point is the Đevojačka glava on Sinjajevina at 42054 'SGŠ; the most eastern point is the Mokro Polje in Bjelasica on the 19040's IGD and the westernmost point is Pećarac peak at Sinjajevina on 19021 IGD. The territory of this municipality borders with municipalities: Kolašin, Šavnik, Žabljak, Bijelo Polje and Berane.

The Municipality of Mojkovac encompasses the extended Tara River valley, which divides the area of the municipality into approximately two equal parts. The Tara valley is a composite character: the gorges, basins and parts of the canyon are scattered. From the gorge, which is located north of the mouth of the Štitarička River, there is a Mojkovac valley, which passes from the Feratovo Polje, through Podbišće, Donje Selo and Mojkovac to the ravine of the Upper and Lower Polje. The total length of the basin is 9 km (5.6 mi), and the width is 2.5 km (1.6 mi). In the canyon part of Tara, which belongs to the municipality of Mojkovac, larger extensions are around the mouth of Bistrica, Ravnik (3.3 km × 2.5 km (2.1 mi × 1.6 mi)) and around Gornja Dobrilovina and black black pine forest in Crni Podim. Four kilometers north of Mojkovac is the passage of the Strait (1,007 m (3,304 ft)), through which it enters the expanded and well populated Leposnica Valley, the tributaries of Lim.

In Mojkovac, a moderate continental climate predominates, which is quite similar to Kolašin's climate. A hydrometeorological station has recently been set up in Mojkovac, so the future monitoring of climatic data will be more precise. The shield average 1,889 mm of rainfall annually, Mojkovac 1,664 mm, and Lower Dobrilovina 1,121 mm. The number of snow days per year is around 120, and the height of the snow cover reaches 150 cm, and in the mountains it is much more.

In frame

- Budva is a popular Montenegrin resort, the center of the riviera of the same name. Tourists are attracted by clear water and clean beaches, some of which are periodically awarded the Blue Flag.

- The Bay of Kotor is the largest bay on the Adriatic Sea, surrounded by the territory of Montenegro. Sometimes the Bay of Kotor is called the southernmost fjord of Europe, but unlike the fjords of Norway, it has a tectonic origin, not a glacial one.

- Mount Lovcen - Mount Lovcen rises from the shores of the Adriatic Sea, closing the long and steep Bay of Kotor and forming a suburb of the coastal city of Kotor. The mountain has two peaks, Stirovnik (1,749 m) and ерeserski vrh (1,657 m).

- Đurđević bridge - a concrete arched bridge over the Tara River in the northern part of Montenegro. Located at the crossroads between the cities of Mojkovac, Zabljak and Plevlya.

- The island of San Stefan is a resort in Montenegro, located on the Adriatic coast, on the Budva Riviera, 5 kilometers southeast of Budva. Located on a small island, the isthmus between land and the natural island, appeared as a result of gravel alluvium in layers. A very rare natural phenomenon.
