Service in the church of St. Mykhailo in Transcarpathia. Market in the village of Mizhhirya.

Mizhhirya (until 1953, Volove) was first mentioned in documents of 1415. In 1751, there were two wooden churches in Volove, one of them - St. arch. Mykhailo with two bells, equipped with all the necessary images and books.

In 1801, a slender brick church was already being built on the plot of land, which, according to tradition, was donated for the church by Lipey, for the construction of which the state allocated 5,000 crowns. A new stone church 30 m long, 10 m wide with a brick vault and a baroque tower 35 m high decorated the central street.

After the prohibition of the Greek-Catholic faith, the church was closed according to the decision of the regional executive committee, and on October 1, 1960, it was removed from the register of active churches. For several years, the idea of destroying the church was floated in the Communist Party offices, but the local communists unprecedentedly did not support the first secretary of the district committee. Then several people lost their jobs, but the church was saved.

In 1981, the church was turned into a historical and local history museum. Religious paintings were painted over, the iconostasis, the throne and other valuables were destroyed.

In 1989-1991, with the efforts of Fr. M. Danylash and Fr. I. Stets, the curators I. V. Vegesh, I. M. Durnevich, V. N. Petrysh and all the faithful, the church was repaired, a small yard with old graves was arranged, and it was returned to the Mezhygorsk Greek Catholics.

A brick, beautifully decorated chapel, built in 1928, stands near the church.

In this video, you will see how the festive service on the feast of Macovia takes place.

Also on this day, a bazaar was held in Mizhhirya. I will walk between the rows and observe the sellers and buyers.

My name is Sorella. I invite you for a walk to various interesting places.
