ABKHAZIA | A 'country' that doesn't exist...
Abkhazia is 'a country that doesn't exist'. An ex Soviet breakaway state, the region of Abkhazia went to war with Georgia (country) in the 90's, after the fall of the USSR, causing awful trauma and scores of refugees on both sides. Nowadays it is another so called 'frozen conflict' and Abkhazia de facto operates as a completely separate state from Georgia. The aim of this video is not in any way political, but to explain a little more about this little known conflict on the edge of the Black Sea and the human tragedy it has caused.
After nearly 2 incredible months in Siberia, we have flown across Russia to the far south and the sub tropical city of Sochi. Nestled between the #BlackSea coast and the Caucasus Mountains, Sochi is the warmest city in Russia, the streets are lined with palm trees and its almost subtropical! Temperatures can reach +20'c even mid winter! In this video we explore the border with a troubled region of the ex Soviet Union and show you around part of this playground for Russia's rich and famous! Did you know that Russia had subtropical region?

SAMGRELO - ZEMO SVANETI, GEORGIA - Welcome to Western Georgia, a region that’s known for delicious cheese and some of the spiciest and most complex food in all of Georgia. Today we’re taking a road trip, will be eating some food along the way, but finally making our way to Zugdid for some of the greatest Georgian food in the county.
Restorani Zgapari Rikoti ( - Ubisa, Georgia - Just a few hours from Tbilisi, we started our food tour today at Restorani Zgapari Rikoti, in the mountains next to a river. They serve regional Georgian food and they are known for their wild mushrooms and fried chicken. It was another amazing meal, with unique dishes, and lots of walnuts and cheese.
Bikentia's Kebabery ( - Kutaisi, Georgia - Kutaisi is a large city in Georgia and we didn’t have long to stay, but I wanted to stop for a very quick kebab at a legendary restaurant. Turned out delicious!
Folk House ( - We finally made it to Zugdidi, Georgia, and the destination of the day. We went directly to the Folk House where we met with one of the most interesting guys in the country who is an artist, collector, singer, musician and Chef. He cooks some of the best local Samgrelo food. There were so many dishes I had never heard of or seen before. I loved the cold walnut stews and the highlight was the elarji, one of the most unique of all Georgian foods. It’s cornmeal with a huge amount of cheese mixed in. It’s probably the world’s greatest cheese pull!
Sisatura – Ethno village ( - Finally to wrap up this amazing day of Georgian food, we went to an Ethno village where we learned a little about the local Samgrelo culture and ate another fantastic meal!

오늘은 세상에 첫선을 보이는 야생화 이야기 48편 찔레꽃을 소개해 드리도록 하겠습니다.
식물명 찔레꽃
학명 Rosa multiflora Thunb.
분류군 장미과 (Rosaceae)
영문 Multiflora rose
분포 중국, 일본, 함경북도를 제외한 대한민국 전역 분포
개화기 5월
꽃말은 고독, 신중한 사랑, 가족에 대한 그리움, 당신을 노래합니다, 온화입니다.
찔레꽃 붉게 피는 남쪽나라 내 고향
언덕 우에 초가삼간 그립습니다~~
백난아 가수의 찔레꽃 한소절이었습니다.
1941년 일제 강점기에 나온 이 노래는 광복과 한국동란을 거치면서 고향을 떠난 수많은 사람들의 향수를 달래는 노래로 유명해졌습니다.
시작 부분인 ‘찔레꽃 붉게 피는’이란 구절은 식물학자의 눈으로 보면 맞지 않는 표현입니다.
원래 찔레꽃은 백옥같이 하얀 꽃이며, 토양조건이나 개체에 따라 연한 분홍색을 띠는 경우가 드물게 있을 뿐입니다.
남쪽나라는 통상적으로 남해안을 말합니다.
해안 백사장에는 어김없이 붉은 꽃이 피는 해당화가 자랐고 지방명도 찔레입니다.
작사자가 본 찔레는 해당화였습니다.
장미과에 속하는 낙엽관목입니다.
원산지는 아시아입니다.
우리나라 전역의 양지나 물가에서 자라고 일본에도 분포합니다.
줄기와 어린가지에 잔털이 많고 갈고리 같은 가시가 달려 있지만 없는 경우도 있습니다.
찔레꽃은 다른 어떤 나무보다 해맑은 햇살을 좋아합니다.
그래서 숲속 그늘의 음침한 곳에서는 잘 만날 수 없습니다.
숲 가장자리의 양지바른 돌무더기는 찔레가 가장 즐겨하는 자람 터입니다.
5월의 따사로운 햇빛을 잘 구슬려 향긋한 꽃내음을 만들어냅니다.
다섯 장의 꽃잎을 활짝 펼치고 가운데에 노란 꽃술을 소복이 담아둡니다.
꽃의 질박함이 유난히도 흰옷을 즐겨 입던 우리 민족의 정서에도 맞는 토종 꽃입니다.
찔레꽃의 다른 이름으로는 야장미(野薔薇), 우리말로 들장미입니다.
합창곡으로도 귀에 익은 〈들장미〉가 있고, 만화 영화 〈들장미 소녀 캔디〉도 많은 사람들이 어린 날의 추억으로 간직하고 있습니다.
그러나 서양의 들장미는 우리의 찔레꽃처럼 하얀 꽃이 아니라 붉은 꽃이 많아 우리가 느끼는 정서와는 다릅니다.
동양의 찔레꽃 이야기는 중국의 《시경》 〈용풍〉 편에 〈담장의 찔레꽃(牆有茨)〉이란 시 한 수가 있고, 일본의 《만엽집》에도 찔레꽃 노래가 있습니다.
찔레꽃은 옛사람들에게는 아픔과 슬픔을 알려주는 꽃이기도 했습니다.
찔레꽃이 필 무렵은 모내기가 한창인 계절입니다.
안타깝게도 이 중요한 시기에 흔히 가뭄이 잘 듭니다.
그래서 특히 이때의 가뭄을 ‘찔레꽃가뭄’이라고도 합니다.
또 배고픔의 고통을 예견하는 꽃이었습니다.
찔레꽃잎은 따서 입에 넣으면 아쉬우나마 배고픔을 잠시 잊게 해주었습니다.
이어서 돋아나는 연한 찔레 순은 껍질을 벗겨서 먹으면 약간 달콤한 맛까지 있습니다.
어릴적 기억을 더듬다 보면 어느새 시간은 한참 저만치 가버립니다.
