N201 Mijdrecht - Uithoorn - Aalsmeer - Hoofddorp (NL)
The N201 is a provincial road in the provinces of Utrecht and North Holland south of the capital Amsterdam. The road is 56 kilometers long and runs from Hilversum to Zandvoort aan Zee. It is an important access route that connects a number of larger towns (Hilversum, Uithoorn, Aalsmeer, Hoofddorp, Heemstede, Haarlem) with highways in the area (A27, A2, A4, A5). In addition, the N201 runs close to Schiphol Airport. Intensities are between 20,000 and 50,000 vehicles per day.
In recent years, there have been regular adjustments to the N201. Until the 1990s, the N201 was ten kilometers longer and started at Baarn. The section between Baarn and Hilversum has been renumbered to N415 and the route through the built-up area of Hilversum is now numberless. Between Mijdrecht and Hoofddorp, the N201 has been redesigned on a completely new northern route, including a tunnel, so that through traffic no longer has to drive through the built-up area of Uithoorn and Aalsmeer. This new section of road opened in 2012 and 2013. Adjustments have been devised for the road section between Hilversum and Vinkeveen, but a decision has yet to be taken.
In this third part of the video series on the N201 we drive from Mijdrecht to Hoofddorp. The video starts in the province of Utrecht, in the Green Heart, a relatively thinly populated peat meadow area in the west of the country. After passing the Amstel Aqueduct we arrive in the province of Noord-Holland. The N201 is 2 x 2 lanes wide here. After the Waterwolftunnel we enter the Haarlemmermeerpolder and the N201 passes just south of Schiphol. Here we also find the connection to the A4 motorway. The video ends on the north side of Hoofdorp.

Via the Diependaalselaan we drive to the west side of the city where the N201 officially starts. From there the N201 goes through the lake area that lies on the border of the provinces of Noord-Holland and Utrecht. At Vinkeveen the lake area ends and we enter the Green Heart, a relatively sparsely populated peat meadow area. The video ends at Mijdrecht.

Dashcam recording New Year's Day 2019 of the N201 Uithoorn 'bypass', Netherlands, heading east towards Mijdrecht, this around 1600 hrs local time (dashcam time GMT).

As is customary in the Netherlands, (in this case) a work van tailgating me on the 80 km p/h road (greetings 'De Lange Installatietechniek VK-505-N') and overtaking towards a red traffic light coming to a full stop at 02:12 and in the end not making any progress at all once at the turn for Mijdrecht @ 06:46 . On the whole in built up areas (like that of Mijdrecht) traffic coming from the right has priority/right of way in the Netherlands, but the BMW 56-XGB-4 at 09:43 probably has forgotten that.

The Amstel is a river in the Netherlands which runs through the city of Amsterdam.
The Amstel's name is derived from Aeme stelle, old Dutch for area abounding with water.
Geography
The river originally began where two smaller rivers, the Drecht and Kromme Mijdrecht, joined together, a little south of Uithoorn. After the construction of a canal, the Amstel-Drecht Kanaal, the river (including the canal) now begins where the Drecht and another canal, the Aarkanaal, meet one another, near the town of Nieuwveen. Tributary rivers are the Kromme Mijdrecht, Bullewijk and Waver.
The river's mouth is in Amsterdam, where it meets the IJ bay. However, in 1936 the last part of the river (called Rokin) was filled in, so the river now ends at Muntplein, although it remains connected to the IJ through subterranean pipes.
Amstel Island
The river contains only one island (52°17′15″N 4°53′15″E), named simply Amsteleiland (Amstel Island). The only road leading to it belongs to Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, but the island itself is part of the municipality of Amstelveen. It has an area of roughly 0.05 km².
Places named after the river Amstel
Amsterdam took its name from the river. The city developed out of a small fishing village called Amstelredam, built in the 13th century alongside a dam at the mouth of the river. The town was granted city rights around 1300. The hamlet developed into the small town Amsteldam, which later became Amsterdam.
The area through which the river passes is known as the Amstelland. The city and municipality of Amstelveen, the municipality of Ouder-Amstel, the towns of Ouderkerk aan de Amstel and Nes aan de Amstel are all named after the river as well. Amsterdam has a street called Amstel (along the river), a square called Amstelveld and a train station called Amsterdam Amstel.
In the former Dutch colonies in North America, a town was captured from the Swedes in 1655 and renamed Nieuw-Amstel. It is now known as New Castle, Delaware.
Bridges and other landmarks

The well-known Magere Brug bridge in Amsterdam crosses the river, as do the Blauwbrug, Hoge Sluis and Berlagebrug bridges.
The Stopera city hall and opera house and Carré theatre are both located on the banks of the river.
Events
A nationally televised concert is held on the river every year on Bevrijdingsdag (Liberation Day). The rowing races Head of the River Amstel and Heineken Roeivierkamp are held on the river annually. The river also forms part of the route of the Canal Parade, Amsterdam's annual floating gay pride parade.
Amstel beer
Amstel beer is also named after the river. The Amstel brewery, as a lot of other breweries, was situated close to the Amstel river because clean river water was used to produce the beer.

Based on our mission, we give our best to raise awareness and funding for the organisations we support but we can’t do it alone. We rely on people, organisations, governments, institutes and companies around the world to enable us to do so.
Our non profit foundation is created to act as a vessel to bring all our supporters together. Expeditions are primarily personally funded by Andras & Lex to use as much of the funding as possible for the selected goal. In order to support them during the expedition 15% of every donation will be used for food, fees, fuel and operational costs.

For Expedition Vladivostok, our first endeavour, we’ve chosen to support UNICEF and focus the adventure towards the world they work in, the challenges they face and the children they reach. Without being intrusive in UNICEF projects themselves we’ll discover what drives their passion.
