Help, cabin fever! Looking for quietness in The Netherlands we end up at a studio next to Vuurtoren Westhoofd, on Goeree-Overflakkee, one of the islands of Zuid-Holland. Only the sound of birds, and the sound of the sea. Of course I go for a bicycle ride as well.

The beautiful sight of a typical Dutch Village in the Snow.
Sommelsdijk is a village on the island of Goeree-Overflakkee, South Holland, the Netherlands.
In the past, Sommelsdijk was the only place on the island of Goeree-Overflakee that was part of the province of Zeeland. In 1805 it was made a part of Holland, and remained such under the amendment of the Dutch Constitution of 1814.
Early March 1941 during the Second World War, nearly two hundred young men from Sommelsdijk were incarcerated for one month because of insulting the German army and the Dutch police. The centre of Sommelsdijk is protected by the Dutch Monument Law. Its Dutch Reformed Church used to be the largest church on the island, but not much remains of the original building, because of several fires and other damage.
Next to the church is the Streekmuseum Goeree-Overflakkee (Municipal Museum of Goeree-Overflakkee). The front street has several monumental buildings form the 17th and 18th centuries. On the western dike is a raised windmill. (Wikipedia)

July 21, 2019. We set course from Bruinisse to the Archipel islands. It is a beautiful weather, and busy with boats sailing to the West of the Grevelingenmeer.
Grevelingen or Grevelingenmeer (Lake Grevelingen) is a closed off part of the Rhine-Meuse estuary on the border of the Dutch provinces of South Holland and Zeeland.
It is situated between the islands of Goeree-Overflakkee (South Holland) and Schouwen-Duiveland (Zeeland) and was closed off as part of the Delta Works, a huge engineering project designed to protect the southwestern part of the Netherlands from flooding. The Brouwersdam, a dike connecting the two islands on the west,
closes off the Grevelingen from the North Sea. The Grevelingendam, the dike on the east, blocks the inflow of Rhine and Meuse water.
Since its closure in 1971 the saltwater of the Grevelingen slowly started to become brackish due to rainwater and excess polderwater from the islands, but the Dutch changed
their mind and decided that they wanted to preserve the saline biotope. Therefore, in 1978 a sluice was created under the Brouwersdam, restoring and maintaining the saline
character of the Grevelingen. The Brouwerssluis is open all year round except during storm floods.
Connexxion bus service 104 crosses the Brouwersdam, bus service 133 (and others) the Grevelingendam.
The Grevelingenmeer is the largest saltwater lake in Europe and is a popular place for holidays and water sports.

July 14, 2019. Again, very early in the morning (7am), we set sail from #Scheveningen heading to #Roompot, in #Oosterschelde, Zeeland. We are riding along with the #strongcurrent, and there is more than enough NW wind (4, sometimes 5Bft), we are sailing as a rocket- top speed of almost 10 knots! Around 13:30, we were waiting before the Roompot locks, and around 15:00, we reached #MarinaRoompot. We of course have the company of big waves originating from as far as #Iceland. As my son put it: a free roller coaster ride it is...
We crossed the #Maas, have to use the #radio transmitter to inform the #Europort that we will be crossing the busy river. My first time to use a radio transmitter! Funny too, I hear so many #Filipino #Pinoy #seamen transmitting over the radio too...
