Bamberg (Germany) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Bamberg is located in Bavaria and the history of the town can be traced back to the year 902. A typical German city from the Middle Ages situated at the river Regnitz,
where today the fishermen's houses inspired the title Little Venice.

The famous Gothic building of the Old Town Hall stands on piles in the middle of the river Regnitz and can only be reached from either side via bridges. Since the 14th century, the town hall has formed the border between the bishop's mountain town and the citizens' island town.

The Bamberg Emperor's Cathedral at the top of the mountain district is not only the most striking building in the old town but is considered one of the most important sacred buildings in the German-speaking world. The interior is furnished with artistic altars, the Equestrian of Bamberg statue, the imperial tomb of Henry the Second and the pope's tomb of Clemens the Second. Just like ancient Rome, Bamberg was built on seven hills.

The thousand-year history can be seen everywhere. The old town on the slope of the castle hill is the largest intact historical town centre in Germany and has been declared a World Cultural Heritage Site.

Nearby is the Schiller's Place, where a theatre and a residential building are also reminiscent of another great universal artist of the German language: E.T.A. Hoffmann.

This visit to the city ends at the Watercastle Concordia. The baroque castle is picturesquely situated on the banks of the Regnitz, where the great history of Bamberg lives on.

Places to see in ( Bamberg - Germany ) St Michael's Church

Places to see in ( Bamberg - Germany ) St Michael's Church

Michaelsberg Abbey or Michelsberg Abbey, also St. Michael's Abbey, Bamberg is a former Benedictine monastery in Bamberg in Bavaria, Germany. After its dissolution in 1803 the buildings were used for the almshouse Vereinigtes Katharinen- und Elisabethen-Spital, which is still there as a retirement home. The former abbey church remains in use as the Michaelskirche.

The buildings are part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Town of Bamberg. As of 2016 and for the foreseeable future, the church is closed for repairs. The abbey gave its name to the Michaelsberg, one of the hills of Bamberg, overlooking the town. With Bamberg Cathedral and the monasteries of St. Stephan and St. Gangolf it formed part of a T-shaped cross in Bamberg's topography.

The hill is the most prominent spur of the Steigerwald in the municipal area and with its steep eastern decline towards the Regnitz is significantly higher than the Domberg. This contributes to the dominant effect of the abbey buildings. The hill was inhabited before the abbey was founded. Excavations have uncovered massive walls and a moat from the 10th century.

Heinrich supported the abbey with rich gifts, including properties. Three books with which the abbey was initially endowed are still in the Staatsbibliothek Bamberg. The abbey followed the Hirsau Reforms, which also resulted in the building of a new church. The chronicler and author Frutolf of Michelsberg was prior here until his death in 1103. The abbey flourished under Bishop Otto (d. 1139), whose burial in the abbey church and subsequent canonisation in 1189, together with the papal protection granted to the abbey in 1251, was of enormous advantage in increasing the independence of the abbey from the bishops.

Due to its exposed location on top of the hill, the former abbey buildings are visible from many places in Bamberg. The structures enhance the impact on the viewer by their bulk. The Wirtschaftsgebäude and living quarters built during the Baroque period from massive sandstone surround the substantial two-spired church. In turn they are enveloped by the terrace gardens which surround the abbey on three sides. The palace-like three-storied main wing faces north, towards the Main.

( Bamberg - Germany ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Bamberg . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Bamberg - Germany

Bamberg | Sehenswürdigkeiten | Rhein-Eifel.TV

Infos: -

Walking in KULMBACH / Germany ????????- Rainy Sunday Tour - 4K 60fps (UHD)

Kulmbach / Germany is a town in Franconia, Bavaria. The town is famous for Plassenburg Castle, for its sausages and (thanks to a large brewery) for its beer. There are a few other sights in the city center which we will visit on this walking tour.

We start our walk at the Dr.-Stammberger-Halle where events of the city mostly take place. Next we walk into the old town of Kulmbach but first uphill to the White Tower (Weißer Turm). It gets further up to the Red Tower (Roter Turm) and we can enjoy some view over Kulmbach. It's a rainy Sunday and few people are out in the street.

Our tour continues heading down to the center again where we see the Petrikirche. We stroll around some back alleys while heading towards the market square with the Townhall of Kulmbach and the Luitpoldbrunnen.

We check out a few of Kulmbach's pedestrian streets though with the shops closed on Sunday we eventually head to the Zinnsfelderbrunnen. So we get back to where we started, the Dr.-Stammberger-Halle, to end this tour of Kulmbach.

Timeline:
0:00 Dr.-Stammberger-Halle
1:00 Uphill to White Tower
4:00 Red Tower and View
6:30 Downhill to Petrikirche
10:00 Some Back Alleys
