It is one of the nation's media, tourism, and business hotspots, and has been listed as one of the most livable cities in the world. THE BEST DAY TRIPS FROM DUSSELDORF, GERMANY
I’ve just come back from travelling around Germany for 10 days and one of my favourite spots was Dusseldorf.
I have to admit I’m not the best at geography sometimes, but when I arrived in the city I quickly discovered there were some great day trips from Dusseldorf, all just a short train ride away.
I’d heard of Cologne, Dortmund and Essen but I never realised they were so close together. That meant as soon as I arrived in Düsseldorf I wanted to explore all North Rhine-Westphalia had to offer. (That’s the name of the region where you’ll find all of these places by the way!)
Throw in some crazy industrial landscapes like Zeche Zollverein and Duisburg Landschaftspark (just wait until you see the photos) and you’ve got the making of a fantastic few days in and around Dusseldorf.

We arrived in Düsseldorf not really knowing what to expect, but over the course of 72 hours, we discovered this is a vibrant city with beautiful green spaces, a thriving art scene, architecture that’ll make your eyes pop, traditions worth exploring, and more restaurants than we had time for! Now let us take you on a whirlwind weekend tour of Duesseldorf and show you some of the possibilities.
And that’s a wrap for Düsseldorf! We honestly loved our time in the city and we can’t believe it took us this long to visit after so many trips to Germany. If you’re looking for a fun weekend escape that combines the best of urban living and nature, Duesseldorf is the perfect fit, and the food scene will also keep all you foodies happy.

This video tour in Mettmann City Germany offers a great way to enjoy a walk and Mettmann city's beautiful historical Old Town(Altstadt) ambience on a cloudy and part sunny summer day in July 2020 after the reopening of many businesses in the end of April. Mettmann lies about 15 km east of Düsseldorf.

From the 1960s onwards, the medieval city centre of Mettmann was extensively rebuilt. Especially in the areas around today's Jubiläumsplatz and the street Am Königshof, numerous residential buildings, factory buildings and historically significant structures were demolished. Among them were the stone house of the knight Ludewig of Medemen, built in 1284, and the Königshof from the 10th century. The old houses were replaced by larger new buildings. Nevertheless it was possible to preserve parts of the historic old town. The medieval ring of houses around the Catholic Church of St. Lambertus in the upper town has been preserved to this day, and other half-timbered and slate houses line the townscape.
I am starting this walk close to the Music school then taking a quick stroll through the historic Altstadt (Old town) closeby. Right afterwards I am walking along the evangelic church and head to the Königshof Gallery mall. I will take a quick stroll within the mall before finishing this walk.
