Travel tips for Brindisi, Italy:

The city was important in times in war, such as World War II. You’ll notice this when you see the various lookout points, castles and forts.

Due to local safety regulations guests are not permitted to walk inside the port of Brindisi. A free shuttle bus service was provided to take you between the ship and the city center.

Don’t forget to pick up a map at the excursion office. The map they have here is faded. Here are some of the places you can visit.
You don’t need a city tour guide for this town. It’s really small and walkable. I would recommend booking a tour to Lecce. It’s 40 minutes away from Brindisi. The cruise offered a tour for 58.90 euros a person. I didn’t go personally but this town was pretty boring so I feel like any other place might have been better than here.

It’s pretty useless to get dropped off here at 2 when everything is closed for riposo (rest time). The siesta is between noon to 4. The only thing left to do is walk around and look at all the monuments.

The name Brindisi comes from the latin brundisium through the greek brentesion and message brenton meaning “head of deer.” Because of the shape of the port looks like the head of a stag.

Brindisi is part of the beautiful Salento region – the “heel” of the Italian boot. This city is a major port for trade with Greece and the Middle East. Brindisi was an ancient Greek settlement predating the Roman expansion.

Top Sights in Brindisi:

1) Brindisi Cathedral is the main religious structure in the city

2) The Monument to Italian Sailors is one of the most iconic structures in the city.

3) Roman Columns: symbolizes the ending of the road. Only one column survived, and the top was replaced with a copy. The original capital is inside the museum of Nervegna. I’ll show you this later. The other column fell in 1528 only the base and a rock area is left. The other part was given as a gift to the city of Lecce.

4) Casa Del Turista (The Tourist House) This house is built on top of an ancient Roman ruin.

5) Ruins of the Roman Aqueduct - this is close to Porta Mesagne gate. The tanks were collecting drinkable water by means of pipes coming from a place named “Pozzo de Vito” The flow of the water through several tanks allowed natural cleaning of water by decantation before supplying it to town’s fountains.

6) Best Gelato in Brindisi, Italy: Bar Rosso e Nero. Get the Croccantino e Rhum (Crunchy rum) and Nocciola (Hazelnut) with panna (cream). Cost €2,50 = $3.06 US dollars.

7) Nervegna Museum - free entry and free view!

Mesagne Apulia Region Italy Walking Tour | Caravaggio Exhibition in Castle Mesagne | Puglia Italia

Mesagne is a town and comune in the province of Brindisi in the Apulia (Puglia) region of southern Italy. It is located in the Salento area, which is known for its rich history, cultural heritage, and picturesque landscapes.

Mesagne is known for its well-preserved historical center, which includes medieval and Renaissance architecture. Some notable landmarks in Mesagne include the Castle of Mesagne (Castello di Mesagne), a medieval fortress with a cylindrical tower, and the Mother Church of St. Anne (Chiesa Matrice di Sant'Anna).

The town is part of the Salento wine region, and the surrounding area is characterized by olive groves and vineyards. The historic and cultural attractions, combined with the natural beauty of the region, make Mesagne an interesting destination for visitors.

For the most current and detailed information about Mesagne, especially if there have been changes or developments since my last update, I recommend checking local tourism websites, official municipal websites, or recent travel guides.

You can find Caravaggio exhibition in this video which we visited in Castello.

Hotel Tenuta Moreno in Mesagne , Travel Puglia , Italy

The beautiful region of Apulia or Puglia is located in the southeast of Italy. Good wines, olive oil, pasticciotto, café Lecheresse are just a few examples of what characterizes the region. We visited Lecce, Otranto, Polignano a Mare, Cisternino & Locorotondo, the most beautiful villages in Italy, Mesagne, Hotel Tenuta Moreno, Matera (Basilicata Region), Massafra, Valle D'Itria, Alberobello with its trulli houses, Ostuni, Brindisi (Airport). ), Martina Franca, Oria. In Lecce you will find beautiful Baroque buildings with beautiful squares such as Piazza del Duomo and the Basilica Basilca di Santa Croce and the Roman Amphitheater. Otranto has a turbulent history. It was the first place conquered by the Turks in 1480. Many Italians died and you can see around 800 bones and skeletons of Italians who lost the battle with the Turks in the Cappella dei Martiri (Chapel of the Martyrs) in the cathedral of Otranto. In Oria there is a crypt in which mummies are exhibited. Oria also contains a medieval castle and a cathedral. In Matera, caves called Sassi were carved out in prehistoric times. Later, houses and monasteries were carved out and inhabited by monks. Later by the villagers and lived together in poor conditions with large poor families and their herd animals. The death rate was high. It took until 1960 before the last residents left their sassi. Today the houses have been renovated into hotels and restaurants. Materi is a must see place. It is not without reason that Matera became a UNESCO World Heritage Site and was the European Capital of Culture in 2019.

Exploring Puglia, Italy 2019 // Best travel guide | Virtual Tour

A few lines from one of my Instagram posts:

...Upon our arrival in Bari airport, we first headed to the car rentals and rented an economy car with @avis. Instead we received an upgrade and got a brand new Seat SUV (it literally had driven just 18km!) ???? We went straight to Lecce, booked a room in @andsobnb which is an amazing bed & breakfast hotel in the heart of historical part of Lecce. This will be our starting point from where we will be visiting all other cities in this beautiful region. Here you will find their famous homemade pasta #orecchiette and #tarallini on almost every corner. Generally pasta orecchiette is made by local Italian “nonnas” ????????. In restaurants ask for 'vino locale' ????, which will go perfectly with their homemade pasta and fresh seafood.
