Nach 177 Tagen und 6400 Kilometern sind wir zurück von unserer Spanien-Reise. Es war für uns das erste Mal, das wir über Weihnachten und Silvester in Spanien waren. Wir haben die Zeit genossen und wenn alles klappt, werden wir es im nächsten Winter wieder machen.

Cochem is a charming town situated in the Rhineland-Palatinate region of Germany. It is located on the banks of the Moselle River and is known for its picturesque scenery and well-preserved medieval architecture.

The German Vulcano Road is a 280 km long road through the Eifel. The German Vulcano Road counts 39 places of interest. It was too much to visit all of these highlights in 1 weekend only. We made a choice out of these highlights and added 2 hikes to our trip. The hikes are part of the Draumpfade (Dream trails). The 2 trails we have hiked were very nice.

MONREAL GERMANY - A Beautiful Picturesque Town In The Eifel 8K
Monreal is a beautiful picturesque town in the Eifel in Germany. The beautiful half-timbered houses, the castles and the authentic atmosphere make Monreal a must to visit when you are in the Eifel.
Monreal is located in the Volcanic Eifel , a beautiful and interesting area of the Eifel. The idyllic town is located about 7 kilometers from Mayen, another beautiful and interesting place in the Eifel.
The Eifel Museum Mayen is located here, among other things . Furthermore, for example, a well-known tourist place such as Cochem is only 25 kilometers to the south. Monreal is located in the Elztal where the small river Elz (Elzbach) flows.
The history of Monreal in brief.
Monreal is already a very old town. Finds prove that the place already existed before the era. Officially (in writing) Monreal “pas” was first mentioned in the year 1229.
Monreal was then called Mons regalis, meaning King's Mountain. Around this time, Count Philipp von Virneburg transferred the area to his brother Hermann. In his order, the castle was also built to protect the place.
The place has two castles, the Löwenburg (also called Burg Monreal) and the Philippsburg.
In 1306 Monreal already received city rights. The market rights did not follow until 1642. The town was part of the Archdiocese of Trier.
However, the Count of Virneburg also had a good relationship with the Archdiocese of Cologne (Köln), which in turn led to conflicts with Trier, after which Trier decided to place its own people on the castle in Monreal.
Löwenstein Castle has had to endure a lot. The castle was destroyed by Swedish troops in 1632 and in 1689 it was the French who destroyed the Löwenburg.
When the 30-year war was over, an important cloth / textile industry developed in Monreal. Due to the large sheep herds around the picturesque place in the Eifel, there was of course a lot of wool available. This brought a lot of prosperity to the place and trade flourished.
Towards the end of the 19th century, however, trade collapsed due to strong competition from abroad. Soon all trade collapsed and the place grew poorer.

Our day trip to picturesque and charming Cochem, Germany. Located on the Moselle (aka Mosel) River, the town is dominated by the magnificent castle overlooking it: Reichsburg Castle, which has been in written existence since about the year 1050.
We strolled the Moselle Promenade area as well as the historic old town area. As always, Ed does the narration you hear, while I did the majority of the still photography and then edited everything for upload to You Tube.

19.09.2019 - Toter nach Hausbrand in Mendig
Mendig. Rund 50 Feuerwehrleute waren bei dem Wohnhausbrand in Mendig am gestrigen Nachmittag im Einsatz. Wie die Staatsanwaltschaft Koblenz auf Anfrage unserer Zeitung mitteilte, laufen derzeit die polizeilichen Ermittlungen zur Brandursache. Nach Angaben der Staatsanwaltschaft wurde der 67-jährige Bewohner des Hauses kurz vor dem Eintreffen der Rettungskräfte noch lebend vor dem Haus gesehen. Nach den Ermittlungen der Polizei sei davon auszugehen, dass der Mann den Brand bemerkt hat und dennoch in die brennende Wohnung gelaufen ist. Der 67-Jährige wurde dort aufgrund einer Rauchgasvergiftung bewusstlos und verstarb.

Cochem is a small traditional German town with half-timbered houses and an exceptionally scenic location on the river Mosel in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. The town is situated in a valley and has an almost Mediterranean climate, with warm sunny days over a 9 month season, summers are mild to hot.
Cochem is the center of the Mosel wine trade and is surrounded by high elevations, steep vineyards.
Mosel is one of 13 German wine regions for quality wines and takes its name from the Mosel River. The wine region is Germany's third largest in terms of production but some consider it the leading region in terms of international prestige.
The steep river bank slopes that are scattered around the Mosel region are considered some of the most labor-intensive vineyards in the world. Mechanical harvesting is impractical and nearly seven times more man hours are needed in the Mosel than in flatter terrain. A benefit of the steep Mosel vineyards is that the incline allows for more direct sunlight to have contact with the vines.
The Mosel is a river flowing through France, Luxembourg, and Germany. It is a left tributary of the Rhine, which it joins at Koblenz. The Mosel twists and turns its way between Trier and Koblenz along one of Germany's most beautiful river valleys. Its hillsides are covered by terraced vineyards where some of the best Rieslings grow, and numerous ruined castles dominate the hilltops above wine villages and towns that line the riverbanks.
