Discover Siracusa, Sicily

Siracusa, almost at the south-eastern tip of Sicily, has some noteworthy history. Once the second city of the ancient Greek empire, this is the hometown of Archimedes. Siracusa's most obvious archeological treasures are on the Sicilian mainland. That's where you'll find the Greek theater and the Roman amphitheater, but the city's real draw is the island of Ortigia. At its heart is the duomo or cathedral. The duomo stands directly within the footprint of an ancient Greek temple – you can still see the columns, inside and outside.

Discover Noto, Sicily

Noto, the eponymous town at the heart of the UNESCO listing of the Late Baroque Towns of the Val di Noto is a gem of a town. Positioned on a hillside, it almost looks like a stage set, and at Golden Hour, when the sun is low, it is illuminated as if by magic.

We are on a summer tour around East Sicily and after visiting Catania, it's time for our second stop in the Itinerary, In today's vlog we visit Ortigia, Siracusa. Is it worth a visit? I would say absolutely!
This ancient city has a strong Greek influence that can be seen throughout. This travel vlog has many tips on what to see in the area. We wander through the many alleyways, visit the street market, spend time relaxing at the beach clubs, admire the stunning baroque architecture and of course we try lots of Italian food. Or, more precisely, Sicilian food.
Italy is a foodie's paradise and since we love trying local dishes prepared with good quality ingredients, I am adding tons of tips for restaurants and foods to try in the island of Sicily. We also tried some great cocktails at some of the best the local bars. I Hope this tour in Siracusa will inspire you. I post every week, so make sure to subscribe! :-)

Siracusa, Noto, Melilli, Sicily, Italy!

On this episode of You, Me and Sicily we take you to the Province of Siracusa. First stop is Ortigia and the Piazza Duomo, the ancient greek ruins and the open market. Our friend describes the types of cheeses he has for sale. Then we head to the Archeological park in the city of Siracusa to see some Greek and Roman Ruins and the largest amphitheater in Sicily. Next to Noto and the Infiorata flower festival. The area was destroyed in the 1693 earthquakes that devastated parts of Sicily. It was rebuilt in this late Baroque style. Next over to Augusta which along Siracusa was an important Greek colony. Melilli is a hilltop town with the church of Saint Sebastian. There is a replica of the church in Middletown, Connecticut where many migrated to. We also stopped in Augusta, location of the Italian Navy in Sicily. Plus Marzamemi and Bucheri.

ORTIGIA, SICILY. The little island on the COAST OF SICILY WORTH VISITING. Traveling in ITALY.

Ortigia, Sicily!

Welcome to the small and historic island of Ortigia. Ortigia is a small island which is in the historical center of the city of Syracuse, Sicily. When I got to this island, I had no idea what to expect. I had never really heard of it before. After 3 days on this little small island, I didn't want to leave. It's full of history, cafes, restaurants, incredible culture, food markets, wonderful people, and a small town welcoming energy.

What to do in Ortigia? In this video I highlighted some of my favorite places to eat and drink. Many of the great bars and restaurants are tucked away and that is what makes this place ever so charming.

How many days to spend in Ortigia? We spent 3 days in Ortigia which is more than enough time to see the entire island. You can actually walk around the entire island in just a few hours. If you want to have a more relaxed long stay, visiting your favorite cafe each morning, 8 to10 days is a good lengthy time here. It's a part of Sicily I highly recommend exploring.

I would love to learn more about and how you like to travel. What places do you plan to travel to?

Exploring Catania, Noto and Taormina, island of Sicily. Italy's southern region ????

Exploring the island of Sicily, specifically Catania, Noto and Taormina, to the south of Italy, has been an amazing opportunity to get to know this country and its people, art, culture and everything that goes along with it. There´s so much to do there, history everywhere! You feel that no matter where you look, you are surrounded by monuments; that plus the food and the people, great combination ! I can’t wait to go back and really dive in the culture !
