The Athens Metropolitan Area consists of 58 densely populated municipalities, sprawling around the Municipality of Athens (the City Centre) in virtually all directions. For the Athenians, all the urban municipalities surrounding the City Centre are called suburbs. Many of the southern suburbs (such as Alimos, Palaio Faliro, Elliniko, Glyfada, Voula, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza) known as the Athens Riviera, host a number of sandy beaches, most of which are operated by the Greek National Tourism Organisation and require an entrance fee. Casinos operate on both Mount Parnitha, some 25 km (16 mi) from downtown Athens (accessible by car or cable car), and the nearby town of Loutraki (accessible by car via the Athens – Corinth National Highway, or the suburban rail service Proastiakos)

Vrilisia Night Walk in Athens, Greece
Vrilissia (Greek: Βριλήσσια) is a suburban municipality of the North Athens regional unit, in the Attica region. It is located in the Athens basin, at the southwestern foot of the Penteli Mountain.
Among the municipality's features one notices the low rise profile with four apartment floors maximum at the center, while particularly high is also the rate of private gardens. The centre of the municipality is built up around the Analipseos Main Church (Jesus Christ's Ascension Church), while the commercial area mainly extends throughout the Penteli Avenue. The municipality is generally composed of residents among the median and upper income bands.
n antiquity the area of Vrilissia formed part of the deme of Phlya, which covered the land spanning from Psychiko to Agia Paraskevi and mainly centered on what is now known as the Municipality of Chalandri.
Vrilissia was part of the municipality of Chalandri until 1949, when it became a separate community. It became a municipality in 1990. Read more

Athens Metro - Doukissis Plakentias Station | Greece | 21/11/23
Doukissis Plakentias (Greek: Δουκίσσης Πλακεντίας), sometimes known simply as Plakentias, is an Athens Metro and Suburban Railway station situated at the end of Doukissis Plakentias Avenue in Chalandri, a municipality in the regional unit of North Athens, Attica, Greece. It is named after the Duchess of Plaisance, a philhellene who owned much of the land in the part of Attica where the station now stands. The metro station lies underground, while the Suburban Railway station lies within the median strip of the Attiki Odos motorway.
The station is located within the administrative boundaries of the municipality of Chalandri near the settlement of Patima. The Transport for Athens-operated bus station allows access to the northeast suburbs of Athens, northern Mesogeia and East Attica. It is also the junction of Motorway 6 and the Hymettus ring road. In addition, it is used by the municipal transport services of Chalandri and Vrilissia. Private car parking, taxi and local bus services are also available.
History
The metro station was opened on 28 July 2004, while the Suburban Railway station was opened two days later, along with the first section of the Athens Airport–Patras railway.
In the original plans the construction of Metro Line 3 and during most of the construction, Doukissis Plakentias station was called Stavros, while the station now known as Chalandri station was called Doukissis Plakentias. The stations were renamed to their current names during the construction of the Ethniki Amyna - Doukissis Plakentias route. Since Chalandri station is nearest the centre of Chalandri and Doukissis Plakentias is located on the border of three municipalities en route to the tower in Penteli, the names were changed.
Service
The station serves the residents of Chalandri, Agia Paraskevi, Gerakas, Vrilissia, Penteli and Melissia neighborhoods, allowing access to the center of Athens, East Attica and the Athens International Airport.
Suburban Railway station
Doukissis Plakentias Station of the Athens Suburban Railway is on the Kiato/Ano Liosia - Airport route. It was inaugurated on July 30, 2004, just before the start of the Olympic Games in Athens. The railway station is at the end of Doukissis Plakentias Avenue and the start of Iraklitou Avenue in Halandri. It serves three municipalities and has central dock and spotting line trains.
Since 15 May 2022, the following weekday services call at this station:
Athens Suburban Railway Line A1 between Piraeus and Athens Airport, with up to one train per hour;
Athens Suburban Railway Line A2 between Ano Liosia and Athens Airport, with up to one train per hour: during the peak hours, there is one extra train per hour that terminates at Paiania–Kantza instead of the Airport.
Metro Station
Doukissis Plakentias station of the Athens Metro is on Line 3. It opened on 28 July 2004. It is underground and has two side platforms, and a depot.
The station has four entrances. The Doukissis Plakentias to Athens route is accessible from Plakentias-Iraklitou Avenue, providing access toward the center of Chalandri and Athens. A high surface node is located on the northwest side of the station, on the border with Vrilissia and close to municipal transport. At the cathode is a crossing for local buses (412, 423, 447, 403) to meet the OASA stop at Chalandri. The Doukissis Plakentias to Vrilissia route (originally printed misspelt as Doukissis Plakentias to Vrilissia) is at the rise of Doukissis Plakentias - Iraklitou Avenue to Chalandri-Gerakas in the northeast. From this strip, travellers can board local buses (447, 403, 412, 423) that go to Patima, Penteli or west to Vrilissia.
The Garyttou entrance is located in the southwestern lower surface, near Agia Paraskevi (Garyttou street district Kontopefko). Here, local bus 406 provides access to the square of Mesogeion Avenue. The fourth entrance is indicated by the Bus-Parking-Taxi sign to the southeast that leads to the OASA bus station. with numerous buses to neighbouring suburbs and East Attica. Buses 306 and 307 go to Gerakas and Glyka Nera. Bus 407 goes to Mesogeion Avenue, and other buses serve Pallini, Spata, and Artemida. There are also bus stops on Panagouli Avenue (next to Attiki Odos), with bus service to Vrilissia and Melissia. Taxi service is available. The parking lot for Metro private passengers is also accessible from this entrance.
The station is the terminal point for most trains on Line 3 of the Athens Metro, while some continue their journey to the Athens International Airport, using the Suburban Railway line. The transition between these trains of the two networks is achieved through a dual-tunnel connecting line immediately after the station. Between the tunnel exit and switches to and from Suburban Rail lines, trains transition from the 750 V DC third rail electrification system of the Athens Metro to the AC 25 kV 50 Hz overhead electrification used by OSE.

Πτήση στην κορυφή της Πεντέλης μετά την κακοκαιρία Φίλιππος.
Ο σταθμός τηλεπικοινωνιών στην κορυφή της Πεντέλης, εξυπηρετούσε βασικά ΝΑΤΟϊκές τηλεπικοινωνίες, με τα «πιάτα» του να χρησιμεύουν ως επιφάνειες εστίασης τηλεπικοινωνιακών κυμάτων.
Σε απόσταση λίγων δεκάδων μέτρων από τα υπόλοιπα κτίρια, υπάρχει το μικρό εκκλησάκι του Προφήτη Ηλία, που είχε κτιστεί στην κορυφή της Πεντέλης περί τα μέσα του 20ου αιώνα.
Είναι προφανές ότι το εκκλησάκι του Προφήτη Ηλία είχε χρησιμοποιηθεί ως προκάλυμμα, προκειμένου να στεγάσει στο εσωτερικό του τα μηχανήματα αυτά.

This Abandoned Villa Has 70 Rooms - Villa Levidi (Βιλλα Λεβίδη)
So in todays video, I had the bright idea to visit an #abandonedvilla, the Levidi Villa up in Levidi Hill in Pallini.
This Villa used to be the one of the most well known sights of Athens, back in the day. #FinosFilm movies were shot there.
Now, sadly, it’s just an abandoned place with only its history to keep it alive.

Συντήρηση και Αποκατάσταση Ιστορικών Κτηρίων και Συνόλων - Προστασία Μνημείων (Κατ. Α')
Η πεντάτοξη μαρμάρινη γέφυρα της οδού των αρχαίων λατομείων, βρίσκεται σε απόσταση περίπου 4 χιλιομέτρων από το Χαλάνδρι και 3 χιλιομέτρων από τη Πεντέλη στην σημερινή οδό Δουκίσσης Πλακεντίας του Δήμου Μελισσίων. Είναι πιθανόν να στέκει στη θέση μιας αρχαίας γέφυρας από την οποία δεν σώζονται ή δεν διακρίνονται ίχνη.
Πρόκειται για την αρχαιότερη σωζόμενη γέφυρα της ευρύτερης περιοχής της Αθήνας η οποία κατασκευάστηκε το 1836 με χρηματοδότηση της Sophie de Marbois-Lebrun, Δούκισσα της Πλακεντίας και με σχέδια του μηχανικού Αλέξανδρου Γεωργαντά. Η κατασκευή της έγινε πιθανόν στα πλαίσια του γενικότερου εκσυγχρονισμού και επέκτασης του δικτύου δρόμων της Αθήνας την εποχή εκείνη, και εξυπηρέτησε τη μεταφορά μαρμάρων από το Πεντελικό στην Αθήνα για την ανέγερση των ανακτόρων, όταν σύμφωνα με διαταγή του Όθωνα το 1836 το λατομείο της Πεντέλης λειτούργησε ξανά.
Είναι κατασκευασμένη από πεντελικό μάρμαρο και έχει μήκος σήμερα περίπου 39,50 μ.( μετά από τις επεμβάσεις που έχουν γίνει στις απολήξεις των στηθαίων) , ωφέλιμο πλάτος 3,30 μ. και συνολικό ύψος 10,40 μ. από το βαθύτερο σημείο του ρέματος.
Ως προς τον τρόπο οικοδόμησης της γέφυρας, παρατηρείται η κατά ζώνες μεταβολή της δομής των λίθων από κάτω προς τα άνω. Οι βάσεις των βάθρων έχουν αδρή αργολιθοδομή, το τμήμα έως τις γενέσεις των τόξων έφερε διακοσμητικά επιμελημένο αρμολόγημα (που σήμερα υπάρχει σε ελάχιστα σημεία) και τέλος τα τόξα με τις βάσεις των στηθαίων έχουν επιμελέστερη λαξευτή λιθοδομή. Το υπόλοιπο τμήμα των στηθαίων και οι επιστέψεις που πιθανώς να διέθεταν την τελειότερη λάξευση, σήμερα δεν σώζονται.

Driving from the Ancient Corinth to Piraeus Port in Greece - Navigator of the Seas (Oct. 9, 2013)
Seen here is the END of our private tour to the ancient city of Corinth -- Dimitri, our driver and tour guide, took us back to our Port of Call of Piraeus... made it on time to catch the cruise ship, so no worries that afternoon!
Wednesday morning (October 9th 2013), shortly after our RCI cruise ship Navigator of the Seas docked in Port of Piraeus, we started our private TOUR to Corinth (it was about 8:00am when we left the Cruise Terminal B, Themistocles).
First, we drove to ACROPOLIS where we had some free time to visit on our own (then, our tour guide and driver, Dimitri, took us to Corinth and back to Piraeus).

Due to the traffic in Athens, we arrived to the ACROPOLIS by 8:30am and headed out to Corinth (Greek: Κορινθία) around 10:15am that morning -- kind of long but smooth drive (about 90 min or so).

The modern town of Corinth is located approximately 5 km (3.1 mi) northeast of the ancient ruins. Since 1896, systematic archaeological investigations of the Corinth Excavations by the American School of Classical Studies at Athens have revealed large parts of the ancient city, and recent excavations conducted by the Greek Ministry of Culture have brought important new facets of antiquity to light.
For Christians, Corinth is known from the two letters of Saint Paul in the New Testament, First Corinthians and Second Corinthians.
Apollo Temple has been built in Doric style on the ruins of earlier temple, being a good example of peripteral temple, supported by 38 columns, only 7 of which are still in place.
