Number 6 BAB BOU JELOUD
Bab Bou Jeloud
Whether you spell it Bab Bou Jeloud, Bab Boujeloud, or Bab Boujloud, the famous Blue Gate of Fez is likely to be the first thing you see when you go to Fez Medina. The triple-arch gate, which has blue mosaic tiles on the outside and green ones on the inside, is not as old as you might think. In 1913, French colonists built it.

Number 5 ROYAL PALACE OF FEZ FES
Royal Palace of Fez Fes
Another great thing to do in Fez is discoverThe Royal Palace of Fez. This was once the main home of the sultan. The King of Morocco still stays there when he is in the city of Fez. It is 195 acres and has high walls on all sides (80 hectares). Visitors can only look at the impressive and ornate main entrance from the outside, since the building is closed.

Number 4 FEZ MELLAH
Fez Mellah
The Fez Mellah , which was built in 1438, was the first of its kind in Morocco. It was a walled Jewish quarter that kept Jews separate from the majority Muslim communities and was locked at night to keep its residents safe. Visitors can see one of Fez's most interesting neighbourhoods, the Mellah, by taking a walk through it. The Mellah has a different style of architecture than the rest of the old Medina.

Number 3 VOLUBILIS
Volubilis
The Roman ruins of Volubilis, which are in northern Morocco on the Jebel Zerhoun plateau, are a beautiful sight, especially in the summer when the area is full of wildflowers. This UNESCO World Heritage site has some of the best-preserved ruins in Northern Africa. It gives you a glimpse into ancient Morocco and is a nice day trip from Fez or Meknes.

Number 2 NEJJARINE MUSEUM OF WOODEN ARTS AND CRAFTS
Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts
The Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts) is now in this well-restored former fondouk. In the 18th century, traders stayed here and stored and sold their goods there. When the museum opened in 1998, people could look at things like tools used by craftsmen, prayer beads, ancient chests, and musical instruments.

Number 1 MEDINA OF FEZ
Medina of Fez
The number one thing to do in Fez is visiting the Medima of Fez. The Medina of Fez fes El-Bali is a whirlwind introduction to the city's culture, crafts, and chaos. It is in the northeast corner of Fez. The UNESCO-listed maze of streets, shops, and souks dates back to the ninth century. It is surrounded by walls and gates from the 13th century.

FEZ, MOROCCO (2023) | 7 BEST Things To Do In & Around Fez

Fez is located in northern Morocco and is commonly referred to as the country’s cultural capital. Dating back to the 9th century, Fez is known for its ancient, chaotic medina filled with madrasas, palaces, residences, mosques, and fountains from this period. It’s also home to the first university in the world according to the Guinness World Records.

???? WHERE WE STAYED (highly recommend!) - Palais Fes Yahya:

7. Explore the medina Fes el Bali
Fes el Bali is the oldest walled part of Fez. It consists of more than 9,000 narrow alleyways, so it’s a true maze. That’s why we recommend going on a guided tour here on your first day. Not only will you see the important historical sights and souks, but you’ll also feel more at ease wandering these tight alleys.

☑️ Guided tour of Fes el Bali:

6. Get a view over the medina
The old city of Fes is surrounded by hills that offer panoramic views. The Marinid Tombs are located on the hill that lies to the north of the city. These monumental tombs were originally a royal necropolis for the Marinid dynasty which ruled in the 13th to 15th centuries. And although the tombs are in a heavily ruined state today, it’s still fun to walk around here and take in the views of the entire walled medina area from above.

5. Stroll around the Jnan Sbil Gardens
If you need to escape the hustle and bustle of the medina, then head to the only public garden in the area. This peaceful slice of nature is home to various birds, plants, flowers, and palm tree-lined walkways. Stroll around the gardens to recharge your batteries.

4. Admire the Bou Inania Madrasa
Located in the medina, this ‘madrasa’, or Islamic school of learning, is one of the few religious buildings in the city that non-Muslims are allowed to enter. It was constructed in the 14th century and up until the 1960s, this was an actual functioning theological school. Today, you can admire the beautiful carved woodwork, marble courtyard, mosaic tilework and decorations.

3. Take in the Smells of the Tanneries
The tanneries of Fez are one of the city’s most famous attractions. Located in the old town, the tanneries have been the bustling center of the city's leather industry since the medieval era. The only way to get the iconic bird’s-eye views over the dying pits is to visit the leather stores surrounding the tannery area.

2. Go on a day trip to Volubilis & Meknes
One of the things we liked about Fez was its proximity to other interesting destinations. The UNESCO World Heritage Site of Volubilis is situated a one and a half hour drive from Fez. Home to the best-preserved Roman ruins in all of Morocco, this site was one of the most remote outposts of the Roman Empire.

☑️ Day tour to Volubilis & Meknes from Fez:

1. Go on a day trip to Chefchaouen
Another great day trip from Fez goes to Chefchaouen, which is a 3.5 hour drive away. It’s known as the Blue City thanks to its picturesque streets filled with houses painted in different shades of blue. The best way to explore these alleyways is to simply get lost and take photos.

☑️ Chefchaouen day tour from Fez:

Even though Casablanca was made famous by Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, Morocco offers much more than just its capital. Travelers may enjoy sunbathing on beaches, snow skiing in the mountains, and living in a historic Arabic culture in this country on the Atlantic coast. The past is ever-present in this multicultural and colorful nation, whether you're wandering through historic medinas, trying local cuisine at a souq, or lounging in the sun in a seaside town with whitewashed buildings. Here are some of Morocco's top tourist destinations:

Number 10, Merzouga Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Moroccan village of Merzouga is a popular tourist destination. Take an overnight camel ride over the wavy, deep reddish-orange dunes. The majority of group trips end at a pre-setup camp where tour companies have their Berber tents set up.

Number 9, Legzira Beach Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Legzira Beach is thought to be Morocco's most distinctive beach because of its sea arches. At low tide, a human standing beneath one will appear to be a tiny doll. Legzira is a favorite spot for hang-gliding and parasailing.

Number 8, Chefchauen Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Chefchaouen lies in northwest Morocco and is close to Tangier. The winding maze of streets, which is surrounded by stunning mountains, conceals plazas and historic kasbahs. It is well-liked by shoppers because they may find Moroccan handicrafts there.

Number 7, High Atlas Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Morocco's High Atlas Mountains are the tallest mountain range in North Africa. The Todra Gorge in the eastern High Atlas is one of the best places to visit. At-Benhaddou, a historic Mud Brick city, has been used in Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia films.

Number 6, Asilah Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Asilah has an illustrious past as a trading hub for the Phoenicians in 1500 BC. It served as a base of operations for pirates in the 19th and 20th centuries. The lovely broad stretch of sand known as Paradise beach is located south of Asilah.

Number 5, Marakesh Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Marrakech gained notoriety as a hippie mecca in the 1960s. It has stunning old architecture and courtyards with orange, palm, apricot, and olive trees. The Jardin Majorelle is a botanical garden that combines art deco and Moorish elements.

Number 4, Fes Island Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Fes was once Morocco's capital. The medina is a sizable pedestrianized area that exudes atmosphere and history. Make sure to keep an eye out for the 11th Century Chouara Tannery. It is one of the oldest in the world and has been producing leather for many years.

Number 3, Meknes Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Meknes is one of Morocco's imperial cities. The Roman remains of Volubilis are the closest city to Meknes. Meknes was transformed by the sultan into a magnificent metropolis in Spanish-Moorish architecture, encircled by high walls.

Number 2, Essaouira Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Esaouira has lovely sandy beaches, however it is impossible to sunbathe because of the fierce winds. Windsurfers flock to the beaches of Essaouira during the summer to hone their windsurfing abilities. The harbor and old city walls are the ideal places to get lost and uncover new and intriguing secrets.

Number 1, Casablanca Travel Guide / Travel Video.
Casablanca is the economic center of Morocco due to its significance. European shapes and styles are incorporated into elaborate Moorish architecture. Rick's Cafe is the movie's iconic bar, if you want to transport yourself back to the era of black-and-white movies.

Historic City of Meknes, Morocco [Amazing Places 4K]

Meknes is one of the four Imperial capitals of Morocco (the other three are Marakech, Fes and Rabat).
UNESCO World Heritage Site. Founded in the 11th century by the Almoravids as a military settlement, Meknes became a capital under Sultan Moulay Ismaïl (1672--1727), the founder of the Alawite dynasty. The sultan turned it into a impressive city in Spanish-Moorish style, surrounded by high walls with great doors, where the harmonious blending of the Islamic and European styles of the 17th century Maghreb are still evident today (whc.unesco.org/en/list/793).

Meknes ???????? Morocco Best City - Travel & Discover

The Almoravids founded a fortress in Meknes during the 11th century. It resisted the Almohads rise, and was thus destroyed by them, only to be rebuilt in a larger size with mosques and large fortifications. Under the Merinids it received further madrasas, kasbahs and mosques in the early 14th century, and continued to thrive under the Wattasid dynasty. Meknes saw its golden age as the imperial capital of Moulay Ismail following his accession to the Sultanate of Morocco (1672–1727).
