Duisburg is a city in western Germany, at the junction of the Rhine and Ruhr rivers. It's known for its large harbor and the Innenhafen (Inner Harbour), a waterfront dining and nightlife district. The site of an old ironworks, Landschaftspark Duisburg-Nord is now a park with trails and a ropes course.
Duisburg, about 25km west of Essen, is home to Europe’s largest inland port, the immensity of which is best appreciated on a boat tour. Embarkation is at the Schwanentor, which is also the gateway to the Innenhafen Duisburg (inner harbour), an urban quarter with a mix of modern and restored buildings infused with museums, restaurants, bars, clubs and attractions set up in the old storage silos.
Duisburg is a German city in the western part of the Ruhr area (Ruhrgebiet) in North Rhine-Westphalia. It is a metropolitan borough with a population of just under 500,000. With the world's biggest inland harbour and its proximity to Düsseldorf International Airport, Duisburg has become an important venue for commerce and steel production. Contemporary Duisburg is a result of numerous incorporations of surrounding towns and smaller cities. It is the twelfth-largest city in Germany and the fifth-largest city in North Rhine-Westphalia.
The core city was founded in the 5th century AD as a marketplace on the Westphalian Hellweg trade route, a ford on the river Rhine and the border between the Frankish Empire and the Duchy of Saxons. Around 740 it became one of several royal courts of Francia, it was first mentioned in a chronicle dated 883 AD as one of the Rhenish places conquered by Normans. 16th-century cartographer Gerardus Mercator, creator of seminal globes and atlases as well as the Mercator projection still used in modern world maps, lived, worked and taught in Duisburg for forty years.
Since the late 19th century, the city is renowned for its steel industry, being Central Europe's leading site in this sector. All seven blast furnaces in the Ruhr are now located in Duisburg, producing half of the pig iron and a third of the crude steel made in Germany. Coal-mining, on the other hand, has never played the big role it had in other places on the Ruhr. As Germany's heavy industries have lost importance since the mid-20th century (due to the rise of plastics and relocation of production to low-wage countries), Duisburg had to go through a major structural transformation, losing tens of thousands of jobs in the steel mills while creating new ones in the services and logistics sectors.
Duisburg-Ruhrort, on the confluence of rivers Ruhr and Rhine, has long been and still is Europe's biggest inland harbour. It has successfully kept up with the times, replacing its facilities for break bulk and dry bulk cargo in favour of container shipping and modern logistics infrastructure as well as minimising the average laytime of ships from more than a day to only a few hours. Duisburg also aims to be the terminal of a New Silk Road, offering direct freight train links from China. The University of Duisburg-Essen, with 42,000 students, ranks among the 10 largest German universities.

In this video I will take you on a tour through Landscape Park Duisburg Nord on a sunny winter day in 2020. Landschaftspark Nord in Duisburg(Western Germany) is an abandoned coal and steel production site that is now functioning as a memorial park. This beautiful memorial park in Western Germany (Duisburg), called Landschaftspark Nord (Landscape Park Duisburg Nord), is divided into different areas, whose borders were carefully developed by looking at existing conditions of the plant. Landschaftspark at Duisburg Nord had a clear intention of using the site to develop its program. Within this context, each programmatic element is given a specific identity that illustrates time, while showing change in different ways. Each visitor is allowed to experience the park in their own way and create their own story. I am going up till the top of one plant and slowing down several times to show you even finer aspects. I hope you can relax and enjoy this walk in Duisburg, Landschaftspark Nord.

Xanten is known for the Archaeological Park, one of the largest archaeological open air museums in the world, built at the site of the Roman settlements Colonia Ulpia Traiana. Other attractions include the medieval town centre with Xanten Cathedral, many museums and large man-made lakes for various watersport activities. Xanten is visited by approximately one million tourists a year.
The Archäologischer Park Xanten is built on the site of the Roman town, and it is one of the most frequently visited parks in Germany. In 2012, the Archaeological Park was expanded to nearly the whole area of the Roman colonia after Bundesstraße 57 was moved away from the area.
Historical buildings in the town centre have been restored. At the Xantener Südsee and Xantener Nordsee, two lakes connected by a channel close to the localities Wardt and Vynen, the Freizeitzentrum Xanten (Xanten Leisure Center) was established in 1982. Today, it is a popular destination for sailors.

MSV-Arena, currently known for sponsorship purposes as the Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena, is a football stadium in Duisburg, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, built in 2004. The stadium is the home of MSV Duisburg and holds 31,500 people. It was built on the site of the old Wedaustadion. The stadium was the venue of the 2005 World Games.
The Schauinsland Travel Arena (own spelling: schauinsland-travel-arena) alias Wedaustadion or MSV Arena is a football stadium in the North Rhine-Westphalian city of Duisburg . It is the home of the MSV Duisburg. The stadium is located south of the Duisburg city center in the Neudorf district and is embedded in the Sportpark Duisburg , where the regatta course, the swimming stadium and the ice rink are located.
The current stadium was built in 2003 and 2004 on the site of the former Wedaustadion . The new construction began in July 2003 with the demolition of the north curve and the east straight. As part of the game MSV Duisburg against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen (1: 1) was on October 17, 2003, the laying of the foundation stone. The Nord-Tribune (König Pilsener Fankurve) and Ost-Tribüne (Schauinsland Reisen-Tribüne) erected on the site of the northern curve and east straight were presented on 18 April 2004 at the game of MSV Duisburg against Wacker Burghausen (1: 0) opened. On 12 September 2004 was followed by the game MSV Duisburg against Rot-Weiss Essen (1: 0), the opening of the South Tribune.
The stadium has two 41-square-meter scoreboards, each attached to the roof above the north curve and south grandstand. The arena is 205 meters long, 165 meters wide and 35 meters high (pilons); the roof height is 26 meters. It has a total capacity of 31,500 seats. In addition to the 29,121 grandstand seats (22,082 seats and 7,039 standing places), 1,537 business seats, 252 incentive box seats, 46 wheelchair user spaces , 41 boxes with a total of 420 seats and 124 seats in the press box are available. At the Erstligapartie of MSV Duisburg against Borussia Dortmund on 28 August 2005, the stadium was sold out for the first time with 31,500 spectators.
The north curve has a top and a bottom. The upper tier is seated, with the lower tier being the standing area for the fans of the MSV Duisburg. For international games, the standing area can also be seated to meet the FIFA requirements. Already in the Wedaustadion the north curve was the center of the MSV fans. The active fans of the MSV Duisburg position themselves just behind the gate at the separation fence between the blocks H and I. The standing area of the northern curve is sold out in almost all games. About 5000 spectators find space there. The grandstand is located very close to the pitch and because the entire stadium is covered, the acoustics are very good. The grandstand is officially named the König Pilsener Fankurve ,[5] but is called by fans North curve, there was at the same place in Wedaustadion a curve. The standing area has four large exits and the staircases are marked in blue. In the grandstand, food stalls and beverage stalls are integrated into upper and lower tier respectively. Also a small Zebrashop is integrated into the grandstand. In the front of the grandstand is a large MSV lettering in the form of a hedge.
The south stand has a top and a bottom, with the top rank completely and the bottom rank partially seated. The guest block is in the lower tier of the south-east corner of the Südtribüne. It is a standing area that seats about 1,200 fans of the visiting team. Overall, the south stand offers 5,400 spectators. A special feature of the Südtribüne was that at the height of the gate on the upper tier, the seating was transformed into a Swiss flag. Walter Hellmich wanted to honor friends from Switzerland. In October 2014, the chairs were covered with blue foil, so that all chairs are now uniform again.
