Amazing Things to Do in Bardejov & Top Bardejov Attractions

Discover with us the most amazing things to do in Bardejov & Top Bardejov Attractions.
One of the oldest towns in Slovakia, Bardejov is famous for its intact medieval town center and numerous monuments. The town center is full of cafés and restaurants where you can taste delicious Slovak national dishes. The town is dominated by a dazzling square which is full of medieval, renaissance, and gothic architecture and has become a favorite tourist destination in Slovakia. The most outstanding building in the town is Church of St. Aegidius with 4 chapels and precious gothic altars. Three-aisled Basilica was completed in 1464 and when you enter it, the beauty of its interior will take your breath away. Visit also Town Hall, built at the beginning of the 16th century, which is a museum today and houses a collection of a beautiful gothic art. Do not miss the town fortifications which consist of 23 bastions, 9 of them have remained intact. Bardejov has also the calvary which is situated on the hill. It consists of 13 chapels symbolizing the stations of the cross. They are 13, not 14, because 7th and 8th stations are connected into one.

Bardejov Slovakia 4K

Bardejov is a small but exceptionally complete and well-preserved example of a fortified medieval town, which typifies the urbanisation in this region. Among other remarkable features, it also contains a small Jewish quarter around a fine 18th-century synagogue.

The town of Bardejov is located in north-eastern Slovakia, on a floodplain terrace of the river Topľa near the Polish border. Due to its proximity to the major trade route that stretches across the Carpathian Mountains, from Hungary into Poland, Bardejov was able to develop into an important medieval town.

The town’s surviving urban plan, with a regular division of streets around a spacious market square, is an indication of European civilization from the 13th to 14th centuries. Burghers’ houses, dating from the first half of the 15th century, surround three sides of the square and document the highly developed burgess culture. The fourth side of the square is closed by the Roman Catholic Church of St. Giles, a three-naved Gothic basilica with a precious collection of eleven late Gothic altars. The Renaissance town hall occupies the centre of the square. The historic core of the town is encircled by the fortification system which was, at the time of its construction, one of the most advanced in Central Europe. The area of the town’s historic core was declared a Town Conservation Reserve in 1950. Bardejov also has a well-preserved small Jewish suburb. This quarter, developed over the 18th century around a synagogue (1725-1747), still contains a unique set of surviving buildings from that era: a kosher slaughter house, some ritual baths, and a meeting building (Beth Hamidrash).

Bardejov provides exceptionally well-preserved evidence of the economic and social structure of trading towns in medieval Central Europe. Its surviving building stock represents a developed burgess culture and Jewish community, thus illustrating a multi-national and multi-cultural society.

Criterion (iii): The fortified town of Bardejov provides exceptionally well-preserved evidence of the economic and social structure of trading towns in medieval Central Europe.

Criterion (iv): The plan, buildings and fortifications of Bardejov illustrate the urban complex that developed in Central Europe in the Middle Ages along the great trade routes of the period.

A Rail Trip Through The Scenic Hills of Eastern Slovakia - ZSSK 861 DMU Review

Hello, and welcome back to another train trip report on my channel.

In this video I will be travelling on-board a ZSSK 861 diesel unit from Prešov to Hanušovce nad Topľou. I had intended to continue through to Humenné, but unfortunately there were rail replacement buses in operation past Hanušovce nad Topľou.

This journey takes us through the hills of Slovakia's Prešov region. It's just a regional route, so plenty of peaceful villages and small towns can be seen on the journey. Usually, the service is operated by an impressive ZSSK 757 diesel locomotive with carriages, however thanks to the disruption today, it was relegated to these Slovak-built units.

Enjoy the video. :)

SŁOWACJA BARDEJÓW wycieczka jednodniowa z Bieszczad do Medzilaborce, Bardejov, Kapisova i Jaśliska

Ten ostatni film reżyserii Jana Komasy walczył o Oskara i otrzymał wiele nagród!
Warto wspomnieć, że to wycieczka nie tylko na Słowację, ale też przez Bieszczady i Beskid Niski słuchając niepowtarzalnego opowiadania przewodnika!

FRUSTRATING DAY !! | ORAVA CASTLE | SLOVAKIA 21 | DAY 3

This is the 3rd day of my week solo exploring the amazing country that is Slovakia.
Hopefully, this can persuade you to book a flight there!
The day started off perfectly but quickly became the most frustrating day of the trip with the extremely short November days in Slovakia
