May Pen is the capital and largest town in the parish of Clarendon in Middlesex County, Jamaica. It is located on the Rio Minho river (Jamaica's longest), and is a major market centre for the Parish. The population was 61,548 at the 2011 census increasing from 59,550 in 2001, including the surrounding suburbs of Sandy Bay, Mineral Heights, Hazard, Palmers Cross, Denbigh, Race Track, and Four Paths among others. The town has a mayor.
May Pen was established as a plantation settlement by the British between 1660 and 1683 on a crossing point of the Rio Minho river. It became part of an estate named after its owner; Reverend William May who was born in England in 1695 but in his later years resided in Jamaica. He was rector of the Kingston Parish Church but was later transferred to Clarendon, where he served for 32 years.
May Pen is well located from an administrative point of view in the centre of a largely agricultural parish, and as a midpoint on the Kingston to Manchester road. Boasting a large open air market and transportation centre along Main Street and Sevens Road, the town's centre is often chaotic with activities of shoppers, vendors daily and motorized traffic. May Pen also has many banks, hardware stores, pharmacies and eateries. The town also has a large post office, headquarters for local government, and court house.
This channel captures my travels to interesting places mostly through my dash cam. The channel features videos of my daily commute, trips out of town and overseas travel.

May Pen - the capital of Clarendon, May Pen, was once part of a property owned by Rev. William May. It is said to have begun as merely two inns on the bank of the Rio Minho. The town grew rapidly and in 1938 it was made the capital of the parish. It is now a large town and boasts many churches, factories, a courthouse, modern libraries and numerous stores. While May Pen has no universities, it does have several public and private schools, including Central High School, Denbigh High School, Glenmuir High School (Anglican), Glenmuir Preparatory School (Anglican primary), May Pen High School (Adventist private), May Pen Primary School, Foundation Preparatory School, and St. Thomas Moore Preparatory School (Catholic primary).

Early Christmas morning, children, dressed in their best or new clothing, take their parents by the hand and accompany them to the spectacular Grand Market (often called Gran' Market) as it is considered the holiday's highlight.
Grand Market popularly referred to as “Gran’ Market” is one of the most anticipated events of the Christmas season. It is held in all major towns across Jamaica on Christmas Eve.
Gran’ Market is usually a colourful and energetic affair that provides the opportunity for shoppers to make last minute purchases or secure unique items that had not been available all year round.

Christmas Market or Grand Market in Jamaica 2022
Even without ice and snow, you can still feel the spirit of Jamaican Christmas.
Early Christmas morning, children, dressed in their best or new clothing, take their parents by the hand and accompany them to the spectacular Grand Market (often called Gran' Market) as it is considered the holiday's highlight. Gran Market is held in the major towns all over Jamaica, but Kingston has the most outstanding festival. This festive atmosphere makes winter one of the best times to visit Jamaica. May Pen Mayor Winston Maragh said the authorities will remain vigilant as they try to keep Main Street clear for shoppers this Christmas.
According to Maragh, the ground of the old police station is almost empty as vendors breach the rules daily.
“Over there is half empty right now. Vendors still want to stay on Main Street, and when police go out there right now, they take out phone videoing behaving like they are lawyers,” he said.
Acknowledging that traffic will increase on Christmas Eve for the Grand Market shopping frenzy, he said he will be monitoring the roadways to ensure they are free of congestion.

Rocky Point, Clarendon JAMAICA has a beautiful secret Beach you need to explore. This beach is just about one hour away from Kingston, in Portland Cottage in the rich parish of Clarendon, and I say rich because there is so much untouched, natural beauty in Clarendon that is worth exploring.
Its proximity to Kingston makes it even more special.
I am sorry the day was so windy; the waves raked the ocean and made it look brown, but this is usually a turquoise waters beach. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the long beach walk. So secluded and private the only passer-by will be birds and soldier crabs.
Our family always enjoys this spot to the fullest; there is so much you can do; fishing, camping, eating, cookout, hiking, and even kite surfing if you have one.
We really hope you get to visit one day.

2. Don’t Expect Help From the Cops
The Jamaican police force is universally underpaid and understaffed. Their attention is mostly focused on more serious crime so a tourist’s stolen camera doesn’t rank high on their list of priorities.
3. Don’t Try to Get Around Without a Driver
In Jamaica, they drive on the wrong, -well, left side of the road. It can be a little perplexing, but for a small fee you can hire a driver for the day to help you get around efficiently and safely.
4. Don’t Backpack Through Jamaica
People who backpack through Jamaica essentially put a target on their back, attracting the worst of the island’s criminal element. Your best bet is to spend most of your time in highly populated areas.
5. Do Your Research
Where you spend your vacation will determine what there is to do. Love the nightlife? Then, Negril has tons of thriving hot spots. Taking your family for some fun in the sun? Montego Bay is full of family friendly resorts. Want to experience Jamaica’s inland paradise? Check out Ocho Rios.
6. Don’t Look at the Merchants
When you’re browsing at shops on the island avoid direct eye contact with the merchants. They will take it as a sign that you’re interested in buying but if you’re just looking, keep your eyes on the merchandise and not on the owner.
7. Don’t Use American Dollars
While good, old-fashioned greenbacks are welcome on the island, you should consider using the Jamaican dollar. You’ll find that you don’t have to worry about exchange rates and the locals will appreciate it.
8. Don’t Get Uptight
The entire country is filled with people who are looking on the bright side, and while they’re eager to please, they’re not in any big hurry. So, you shouldn’t be, either. No one wants to hang around with a grumpy tourist.
9. Don’t Be Afraid to Explore
There is one heck of a lot more to the island of Jamaica than just lounging on its world class beaches. There are a lot of great shopping spots and natural beauty like Dunn’s River Falls.
10. Don’t Worry About Finding a Good Beach
The best part about Jamaica is that no matter where you book your reservations Jamaica will have a pristine stretch of golden sand waiting for you. Don’t spend a ton of time trying to find “the right beach.” They’re pretty much all that beach.
