MAP OF SENEGAL

Senegal, officially the Republic of Senegal, is a country in West Africa, on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Senegal is bordered by Mauritania to the north, Mali to the east, Guinea to the southeast and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest. Senegal nearly surrounds the Gambia, a country occupying a narrow sliver of land along the banks of the Gambia River, which separates Senegal's southern region of Casamance from the rest of the country. Senegal also shares a maritime border with Cape Verde. Senegal's economic and political capital is Dakar.

Senegal is notably the westernmost country in the mainland of the Old World, or Afro-Eurasia. It owes its name to the Senegal River, which borders it to the east and north. The climate is typically Sahelian, though there is a rainy season. Senegal covers a land area of almost 197,000 square kilometres (76,000 sq mi) and has a population of around 17 million. The state is a unitary presidential republic; since the country's foundation in 1960, it has been recognized as one of the most stable countries on the African continent.

The state was formed as part of the independence of French West Africa from French colonial rule. Because of this history, French is the official language, but it is understood only by a minority of the population. Over 30 languages are spoken in Senegal, and Wolof is the most widely spoken one, with 80% of the population speaking it as a first or second language, acting as Senegal's lingua franca alongside French. Like other post-colonial African states, the country includes a wide mix of ethnic and linguistic communities, with the largest being the Wolof, Fula, and Serer people. Senegalese people are predominantly Muslim.

Senegal is classified as a heavily indebted poor country, with a relatively low Human Development Index. Most of the population is on the coast and works in agriculture or other food industries; other major industries include mining, tourism, and services. The country does not have notable natural resources, but the basis of its development lies in education, where almost half the state's budget is spent on. Senegal is a member state of the African Union, the United Nations, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Organisation internationale de la Francophonie, and the Community of Sahel-Saharan States. Internationally, Senegal is best known in the sporting world for the Paris-Dakar Rally. Senegal is subdivided into 14 regions, each administered by a Conseil Régional (Regional Council) elected by population weight at the Arrondissement level. The country is further subdivided by 45 Départements, 113 Arrondissements (neither of which have administrative function) and by Collectivités Locales, which elect administrative officers.

Regional capitals have the same name as their respective regions:

Dakar
Diourbel
Fatick
Kaffrine
Kaolack
Kédougou
Kolda
Louga
Matam
Saint-Louis
Sédhiou
Tambacounda

Ziguinchor
Foreign relations. The main industries include food processing, mining, cement, artificial fertilizer, chemicals, textiles, refining imported petroleum, and tourism. Exports include fish, chemicals, cotton, fabrics, groundnuts, and calcium phosphate. The largest export markets as of 2020 are Mali (20.4%), Switzerland (12.2%), and India (8.3%).

As a member of the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU), Senegal is working toward greater regional integration with a unified external tariff. Senegal is also a member of the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa.

Senegal achieved full Internet connectivity in 1996, creating a mini-boom in information technology-based services. Private activity now accounts for 82 percent of its GDP. On the negative side, Senegal faces deep-seated urban problems of chronic high unemployment, socioeconomic disparity, juvenile delinquency, and drug addiction.

Senegal is a major recipient of international development assistance. Donors include the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Japan, France and China. Over 3,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have served in Senegal since 1963. #senegal #sénégal #mapschool #mapsolo #maps #mapas #fifa22 #fifaworldcup #roundof16

Life in a Fulani Village in Senegal | The Meridian Expedition

Visiting a Fulani village in Northern Senegal.

Currently in a remote village called Doumga, North-East of Senegal. There are only 7.5 thousand people living in the region, which is divided into a number of smaller villages. The one we are staying in tonight has appx. 300 households.

And the border of Mauritania is pretty close too. That means - we are back to the Sahara desert. Sand, sand and sand. The heat is bearable, reaching +45 degrees Celcius in the shade. The trick is to put on extra layers of clothing and you won't lose as much liquid by sweating. And stay in the shade, since in the open it can get much hotter.

We are here because we were assisting the transportation of 5 tonnes of rice, 500 kg of sugar, 100 kg of fish and loads of anti-septic gel - a donation from the good people in Dakar, to this remote villages. The roads are paved with roadblocks, checking the vehicles for authorisations, since it is still not allowed to get out of cities without one. It's good, the police in Senegal are here to protect the citizens and assist them.

We spent the day exploring the village and learning the people to know. It turned out that it is inhabited by Fula people - a large ethnic group of West Africa (and more). they are mainly nomadic, usually staying in a place for no more than three months. But this village, like many others in the 20th century, have opted to an urban way of living.

They speak French and their Fula language. It was useless to google the lexicon for this language, since it has appx. 11 dialects and the few words we found online were different from the ones we heard in the streets.

We also had the chance to visit the local hospital and were please to see that they even have their own ambulance! The hospital pharmacy is stocked well (of course, there is not much by international standards).

Even though the region is a deserted one, if you go a little more north, you will stumble upon a beautiful river. The water was beautifully clean and had a hint of blue.

Around it there are a number a villages, scattered in this picturesque view. Yes, the houses are old and built of natural materials (prevents the interior from overheating, by the way). But if you take a closer look, you will spot the satellite dish, indicating that the household is much more developed than you might think.

In another village we noticed a payphone, but it was out of order. I will call home another day then.

At some point we got lost and had to use the compass to get back on the big road. It took us a while, but it was worth it - we saw the beautiful landscapes that we didn’t expect to see.

SENEGAL by kyle simpson_0001.wmv

First we have a map of Africa; it shows Senegal in the Western part of Africa below the Sahara Desert. As we move on there is a picture of the Senegal national soccer team. This sport is one of high popularity in Senegal, and you can see by the large number of fans. You also can see by the locals playing on the beach. One of the easiest most widespread uses of nutrition around Senegal is fish. Since Senegal is on the coast many fish are caught and eaten in Senegal. The country's national dish is Ceebu Jen. This national dish is served with fish. Next we have a public transportation vehicle. This beat up van is used to transport people from place to place. Another way of transportation is through the Gambian river. Many people use simple canoes to navigate through this calm water. There are many different faces to Senegal. Here we see barren land with are leafless tree most likely in an uninhabited area. These are huts built by locals; these huts are located in villages and towns away from largely populated places. Here is the other side of Senegal. There are multiple buildings in a small area and many cars. Here is an artist rendition of the Nakheel tower in Dakar. This tower is to be bigger than the Sears tower and the Burj Dubai, making it the tallest building in the world. Here is a more religious area of Senegal. Shown is a Mosque, as 97% of the people in Senegal are of Islam faith. Here is another Mosque showing the country's sense of religion. We also see a boy with a cross necklace portraying his Christian faith. Next we have a group of local Senegalese. This is a place of education away from a bigger city. Here is a woman and her female children after a day in the fields picking vegetables. Here is a man dragging the goat into the ocean. He is doing this out of respect for the goat. Now this is a woman afters a days work in the river. THE END!!!

Senegal | Welcome to Podor - Podor drone shots | Senegalese Twisted

Hello everyone!

I'm in Podor and because Podor is a whole lot more quiet than Dakar, I usually take some time to use my drone. So, I actually took out my drone right before I had to go take the bus back to Dakar, and that's actually the best time (around 5/6 pm), because the sun is about to set, it is much cooler and the people get out!

Like you can see, the kids are outside playing soccer, the grownups are doing the same (on the big field behind our house) and the people are outside, talking, making tea and just doing house work.

Definitely enjoy the drone shots of Podor, it was refreshing seeing Podor from above while editing this video. If you have any questions, ASK AWAY (you can do this on Instagram or TIkTok as well)!

If you want to stay in the loop, definitely me on instagram @senegalesetwisted).

After almost 3 years, I find myself back in Dakar, Senegal. I plan on staying in Senegal for about 3 months. Mostly to work on creating content, connecting with local creatives and to work on some personal projects such as my next Wolof class.

Thank you so much for following me, watching my video's, leaving kind words of encouragement or just reaching out and sharing memes. I really appreciate each and everyone of you! If you want to tip me for any work I have done, you can! -
