???????? CÓRDOBA, VERACRUZ - Hola amigos and welcome to the first video from my Mexico Travel 2022 series! We're in Córdoba and Orizaba, Veracruz for the next 2 videos, exploring a state which has eluded me for years on my previous Mexico trips! Why does no one come here?
Prepare for amazing Mexican seafood with the awesome Arroz a la Tumbada, a great example of Mexican food (comida Mexicana, or comida Veracruzana!), an insane ruined hacienda in Toxpan, formerly a sugar mill, and a walk around a Mexican city which has a lot to offer!
If you're looking for places to visit or things to do in Mexico, Córdoba is a great option as a lesser-known city with no expats or foreigners! (at least I didn't see any!). Alternatively, if you are one of those people interested in moving to Mexico, Córdoba might be a possibility!

???????? IZTAPALAPA, MEXICO CITY - That's right people, after 118 previous videos in Mexico we're back for another trip, starting in Mexico City (CDMX). In this video we visit Iztapalapa, supposedly one of Mexico City's 'Danger Zones', up there with Tepito, Doctores and Ecatepec (in Estado de Mexico) as areas of the city well-known for high levels of crime, poverty, poor education, water issues and drug-trafficking. You've heard the constant exclamations of 'Is Mexico safe?' and probably read about Mexico City's dangerous areas, but is everything you hear, reality?
After filming in Tepito in 2019, many viewers mentioned Iztapalapa. It's a huge area with a population of just under 2 million people. There are certainly more 'dangerous' areas in Iztapalapa but in this video, we visit the Iztapalapa metro area, Pueblo Culhuacán, Los Reyes Culhuacán and Cerro de la Estrella (hill of the star).
One reason I wanted to visit Iztapalapa is to investigate Sky News' portrayal of the area in relation to Covid-19, earlier in 2020. The report highlighted billowing smoke coming from overloaded crematoriums and morgues, implying Mexico City was a coronavirus disaster zone.
Obviously, time has moved on; perhaps that report was accurate, perhaps it wasn't. But the main point I make in this video is around comparison - comparison with other cities particularly in Europe and the tendency to cast Mexico as being unable to deal with such a crisis.
We also have some Comida Mexicana (Mexican food) - tacos al pastor (my favourite) at a local taqueria and climb Cerro de la Estrella to some Aztec ruins which was one the place of the 'Fuego Nuevo' ceremony.
Overall, and as I've said in previous videos, Mexico City isn't only about Centro Historico and Condesa. If you're looking for things to do in Mexico City when you travel Mexico in 2020, remember, there's a whole city out there with equally magical sights, regardless of the supposed crime. Get out there, and explore!

???????? I HATED ORIZABA, Veracruz (You'll Probably LOVE IT!) | The Most TACKY Magic Town in Mexico?
???????? ORIZABA, VERACRUZ - Yes, I hated it! Ok, before you start with the whole 'everything in Mexico is perfect' garbage, remember that we don't have to like everywhere we visit. Plus, it helps if you're not tired and in a bad mood. LOL. I've been to countless Pueblos Magicos over the years but never really been confronted with Mexico's version of cheap and tacky family tourism, until now!
Plastic flamingoes, animals in cages, overpriced everything, 4 hour waits for attractions, and a town which really wasn't magic at all. Why is Orizaba a Magic Town? I much preferred CORDOBA!
I went on a little weekend trip from Mexico City (CDMX) and was staying in Cordoba for the weekend. I was hoping to find somewhere with some awesome Mexican food (everything was closed) and to go up on a Teleferico (good luck), but was confronted by crocodiles and cheap and tacky tourism not indicative of other magic towns.
In summary, touristic places are not my cup of tea. Give me a gritty city with no tourism or an abandoned building- that's my idea of travel. But saying that, if it's your first Mexico trip or you are planning to move to Mexico and have never been before, Orizaba does offer you a good introduction to Pueblos Magicos.

GÓMEZ PALACIO, DURANGO, MEXICO - Welcome to Part 1 of a 4 part series based out of the city of Torreón, Coahuila! In this 2021 Mexico Travel video, we’re exploring the city of Gómez Palacio, Durango. In subsequent videos we are visiting Matamoros, Lerdo and also a second video from Torreón itself!
Gómez Palacio is Torreón’s sister city, across the river Nazas on the state line between Coahuila and Durango. Both cities have an industrial past and are often forgotten about and not on everyone’s lists when it comes to travelling in Mexico. Not anymore!
Gómez Palacio has some of the best food on offer in Mexico (comida Mexicana - Mexican food!), including (possibly the best gorditas ever!) gorditas de discada and asada rojo. Discada is traditionally prepared on a farming harrow (like a disc) and is made of various pork-related meats such as bacon, ham and sausage. Asada rojo is pork in a spicy red sauce - unbelievably good!
As well as heading to a local mercado, we explore the central square, the railway, an abandoned building and even Mexico's Eiffel Tower! (yes, Gómez has one too!)

Heroica Veracruz or just Veracruz (2024, officially Cuatro Veces Heroica Ciudad y Puerto de Veracruz) is the biggest and most important port of Mexico. Veracruz is also Mexico's oldest and most historic port. The city of Veracruz has approximately 560,000 citizens (including Boca del Río Municipality). Highlights of the city are the PEMEX headquarters, the Cathedral of Veracruz, the San Juan de Ulúa naval complex, the Carranza Lighthouse, the City Hall and off course the Port itself.
