Tour of MARRICKVILLE Sydney | Timeout's 10th best suburb in the WORLD | Little Vietnam in Sydney

Part 11 - This time round I'll take you on a tour of Marrickville in Sydney. Known to be Timeout's top ten places in the WORLD, I thought it was a little strange considering that's the case, as I thought Newtown would take in the reign. So I decided to find out for myself. And tbh it's a decent place to visit - it's close to the city and has some great Vietnamese food.

Anyway, I'll be heading to Victoria soon, hopefully the illness doesn't expand so rapidly.
Let me know which places you want me to visit. But I do have a few areas in mind - Glen Waverley, Box Hill, Springvale, Footscray, Doncaster amongst others.

1. Marrickville Pork Roll - Price - $8 AUD (5.37 USD) per roll - Sydney has a large Vietnamese population and banh mi are extremely popular and affordable.

2. Metro One Kebab Ashfield - Price - $20 AUD (13.42 USD) for Large - One of the most famous Sydney foods is a Halal snack pack, HSP for short - and it’s one of the greatest Australian cheap eats.

3. El Jannah Granville - Price - $15.90 AUD (10.67 USD) for ½ chicken plate - El Jannah Granville serves Lebanese charcoal roasted chicken.

Marrickville Sydney AUSTRALIA 2022 Walking Tour

Marrickville Town Centre walking tour, Sydney Australia.

Marrickville is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Marrickville is located 7 kilometres (4 miles) south-west of the Sydney central business district and is the largest suburb in the Inner West Council local government area.

Marrickville is a culturally diverse suburb consisting of both low and high density residential, commercial and light industrial areas.

Marrickville has a wide range of cafes and restaurants with cuisines featuring Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese, Nepalese, Portuguese, Lebanese, Turkish, Modern Australian, Greek and Japanese. There are also a few notable bakeries and coffee artisans in the area.

The main shopping strip runs along Marrickville Road, west from Sydenham to the town hall. Typical businesses include cafés, grocery and clothing stores. Marrickville Road is well known for the artworks, by Ces Camilleri of Creative Artistic Steel, that adorn the awnings of some of its businesses, which gives the strip a unique style. The shopping strip also extends south along Illawarra Road, past the railway station, to 'The Warren' locality.

The suburb is 5 kilometres north-west from Sydney Airport and lies under a flight path.

In the video, I take you on a walking tour from Marrickville Road, starting with St. Brigid Catholic Church, Marrickville Library and Pavilion, Town Hall and Marrickville Post Shop. Then we stop at the Freedom or Death Greek Mural and continue towards Marrickville Road and finally end our journey on Illawarra Road. Enjoy!

These dog-friendly markets aren’t just a ritual for locals – loyal visitors from all over Sydney trek to Addison Road Community Centre for organic groceries and a wander around Reverse Garbage. You can find pretty much anything here; vintage clothes, books, rugs, eco food wraps to healing crystals, rice bread and tarot reading. There are plenty of stalls selling seasonal fruit and veg, plus Asian greens, honey and fresh seafood. Pick up a paper lunch bag filled with sweet, mini plums and stop by Brooklyn Boy Bagels for a poppy seed dough with cream cheese, lox, dill and caper schmear.

1. Marrickville Pork Roll, one of the best Vietnamese pork rolls to enter my mouth. This was a treat and very reasonably priced.

2. Eat Fuh, amazing high quality Pho is a must on any Vietnamese food guide and we manage to find a fantastic spot.

3. VN Street Foods, one of the tastiest Vietnamese restaurants we have ever let into our mouths. We haven't been to Vietnam yet but this is what we imagine food to taste like there. Simply amazing and a must try if you're in Sydney.

The area's original name is Bulanaming. The first inhabitants were the Gadigal people of the Eora Nation.
