The Atherton Tablelands is a large area to the west of Cairns in Far North Queensland, Australia. Despite being so close it has a somewhat different climate to Cairns - often cooler and dryer. This week we continue our adventure in Far North Queensland, we set up camp at RINGERS REST a low cost camp in MAREEBA. We use the rest as our base to explore the area and load up on supplies as we get ready to head to CAPE YORK.

Self drive to Mareeba, west of Cairns. Mareeba is an hour's drive west of Cairns and its multicultural heritage has given the region its distinctive flavour. The fertile district has a reputation as a food lovers' paradise which can be discovered by visits to tropical fruit farms, coffee plantations, wineries and the Mareeba Markets held on the second and fifth Saturdays of the month.

This video is an extra bonus video haha. Long ago, when we first started overloading full-time and were in Australia, we met so many cool people that we started a Special Spotlight series. Of course, it was our first year traveling full time and it was a huge change for us, so our videos dwindled, and we never did more than one of these videos - until now! This Spotlight video takes you into the life of Dave Berry, the owner and manager of an event center and campground (Ringer's Rest) in Mareeba, Queensland, Australia. Dave was an amazing host and so interesting to listen to - he is a seasoned man of the bush, having started working for a huge ranch when he was only 13 years old.

When José Paronella first envisioned this melding of heavy industry and fantasy, it was met with skepticism.
José Paronella arrived in the Innisfall region in 1913, after coming to Australia to work on railroads in Sydney and later in the tin mines near Cloncurry.
He became obsessed with bringing some of the culture of his home to the new world where he had amassed a fortune buying and reselling cane farms.
At its height, the park was a social hub for the community and a resting spot for returning soldiers.

The Best Campsite Around Cairns | Hidden Waterfalls and Bush Camping | Episode 64
Join us this week as we explore around Cairns and find the best campsite we've been to for a long time!
After spending over a week in Cairns and exploring some of the best waterfalls in the area, it's time to make our way up to the Atherton Tablelands.
We point the Ranger and the Zone up the hill and make our way towards Mareeba, stopping off for a wander around Kuranda on the way.
Our first campsite in the Tablelands is a cracker. Ringers Rest is a low-cost, privately owned campground not far from Mareeba and makes the perfect base for exploring the region.
It feels so good to be camping in the bush again!

This is my first visit. You have to see for yourself! They have variety of plants - indoor/outdoor plants,flowering plants, herbs, potting mixes fertilisers, garden ornaments. I really like all the water feature on display. It's just my wishful thinking I will get one soon. I bought Zinnia flowers which I already planted in my big pots at home and an outdoor plant called Bishop's lace. The owner and staff are really friendly and accommodating. Here's what we were up to this past month. We visited some national parks, James from Hinterland Tours and Transfers took us on a private tour of the Tablelands, and we enjoyed an enormous dinner by bon fire.
