I had never seen the Antonov AN 225 (worlds largest aircraft) before - now i was able to see a pushback from very close up standing under the wing with 6 massive engines! As a little surprise visitor it came to the ILA Air Show 2018 in Berlin Schönefeld - and you were not only able to get very close to the aircraft - you could literally touch it and walk inside (before the pushback i was able to go into the cockpit)! যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে এখন সর্বোচ্চ সংখ্যক মানুষ দারিদ্র্য-পীড়িত অবস্থায় রয়েছে। পরিবার প্রতি গড় আয় কমে গেছে. দেশটির পরিসংখ্যান ব্যুরোর নতুন এক হিসেবে এ তথ্য উঠে এসেছে। পরিসংখ্যান ব্যুরো বলছে, আমেরিকায় গতবছর দারিদ্র্য-পীড়িত নাগরিকের সংখ্যা ছিল ৪৬ মিলিয়ন। এ সংখ্যা দেশটির মোট জনগোষ্ঠীর ছয় ভাগের এক ভাগ।
আমেরিকায় দারিদ্র্যের সংজ্ঞা অনুযায়ী চারজনের একটি পরিবারের রোজগার যদি বছরে ২২ হাজার ডলারের কম হয় তবে ওই পরিবারটি দরিদ্র হিসেবে বিবেচিত হয়। রিসংখ্যানে দেখা যাচ্ছে, টানা চার বছর ধরে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে দারিদ্র্যের হার বেড়ে চলেছে। গত আঠারো বছরের মধ্যে এই হার এখন সর্বোচ্চ। বাড়ছে দারিদ্র্যসীমার নিচে বসবাসকারী লোকজনের সংখ্যাও। আফ্রো-আমেরিকান এবং হিসপ্যানিক সম্প্রদায়ের লোকজন এখন ভীষণ অর্থনৈতিক সমস্যায় জর্জরিত, বলছে পরিসংখ্যান ব্যুরো।তারা সুশিক্ষাসহ অন্যান্য নাগরিক অধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত। ছাড়া স্বাস্থ্য বীমার আওতায় নেই এমন মার্কিন নাগরিকের সংখ্যা এখন ৫০ মিলিয়ন। গড় আয় দুই দশমিক তিন শতাংশ হারে কমে যাওয়ায় রাজনীতিবিদদের মধ্যে শঙ্কা তৈরি হয়েছে।
যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে ধনী ও গরীবের ভেদাভেদ ক্রমশই বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। পৃথিবীর দরিদ্রতম দেশগুলোর শ্রমজীবী সাধারণের চোখে যুক্তরাষ্ট্র যেন এক সোনার হরিণ বা স্বপ্নের দেশ। এসব মানুষের বড় একটা অংশের যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে এসে রোজগার করার সাধ আকাশের চাঁদ হাতে পাবার মত।যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের বিপুল সম্পদ ও অসীম ক্ষমতার গল্প বিভিন্ন দেশের শ্রমজীবী মানুষের মুখে মুখে। কিন্তু বর্তমানে যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে যেমন শিক্ষার সুযোগ ক্রমে সংকুচিত হচ্ছে- তেমনি পারিবারিক অশান্তিতে অতিষ্ঠ বেকার যুবকরা বন্দুক হাতে ঝাঁপিয়ে পড়ছে সহপাঠীর ওপর। আমেরিকার স্বপ্নে বিভোর মানুষের জীবন অর্থনীতির চাকায় বাধা। সে দেশের অর্থনীতি যত তলায়, সাধারণ মানুষের জীবনও ততটাই তলিয়ে যায়।
বর্তমানে দেশটির ৪৯ থেকে ৫০টি অঙ্গরাজ্যে ধনী ও গরীবের ব্যবধান বেড়েই চলেছে। ১৯৮৯ সালের পর এত ব্যাপক মাত্রার অসমতা আর দেখা যায়নি। ৪৩টি অঙ্গরাজ্যে দারিদ্র্যের হার বাড়ছে। নেভাদায় এ হার বাড়ছে হু হু করে। ইন্ডিয়ানায় ক্রমে বেড়ে চলা আবাসন ব্যবসায় আকস্মিক ধস দরিদ্রদের হুমকির মুখে ঠেলে দিয়েছে। এখন এ অঙ্গরাজ্যে শ্রমিকদের মজুরি সবচেয়ে কম। ৫০টি অঙ্গরাজ্যে সবচেয়ে ধনীদের এক-পঞ্চমাংশ আরও বেশিমাত্রায় আয়ের সুযোগ পাচ্ছে। অথচ ২৮টি অঙ্গরাজ্যে মধ্যম শ্রেণির লোকের আয় কমে যাচ্ছে। সবচেয়ে বেশি মাত্রার অসমতা দেখা দিয়েছে নিউইংল্যান্ড অঞ্চলে।
এখানে উৎপাদনশীল কারখানাগুলো বন্ধ হয়ে যাওয়ায় গরিব ও মধ্যম শ্রেণির লোকেরা সংকটের মুখে পড়েছে। অপরদিকে উচ্চশিক্ষিত ধনীরা জৈবপ্রযুক্তি ও বিভিন্ন আর্থিক প্রতিষ্ঠানে কাজ করে বিপুল আয় করছে। যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ওয়াশিংটনের ক্যাপিটল বিল্ডিং থেকে দুই মাইল দূরে পূর্বে অবস্থিত অষ্টম ওয়ার্ডটি নগরের সবচেয়ে দরিদ্র এলাকা। গত দশকের হিসাব অনুযায়ী, শহরটির অধিবাসীদের এক-তৃতীয়াংশ এবং শিশুদের অর্ধেক দরিদ্র।
