Viseu é uma cidade portuguesa do distrito homónimo, situada na província da Beira Alta, Região do Centro e sub-região do Dão-Lafões. A cidade de Viseu tem 59 469 habitantes na sua área urbana. (2021) sendo uma das principais cidades da região do Centro de Portugal e a mais populosa das cidades do interior!
É sede do município de Viseu com 507,10 km² de área e 99 561 habitantes (2021), dividido em 25 freguesias. Viseu é centro da Comunidade Intermunicipal de Viseu Dão Lafões, composta por 14 municípios e servindo uma população de cerca de 270 000 habitantes. Este é limitado a norte pelo município de Castro Daire, a nordeste por Vila Nova de Paiva, a leste por Sátão e Penalva do Castelo, a sudeste por Mangualde e Nelas, a sul por Carregal do Sal, a sudoeste por Tondela, a oeste por Vouzela e a noroeste por São Pedro do Sul. Para além de sede de distrito e de município, Viseu é igualmente sede de diocese e de comarca.
Segundo um inquérito de opinião organizado pela DECO de 2007 sobre qualidade de vida, Viseu é a 17.ª cidade europeia com maior qualidade de vida entre as 76 do estudo, sendo ainda a primeira das 18 cidades capitais de distrito portuguesas com melhor qualidade de vida. Em 2012 foi considerada, mais uma vez, a cidade portuguesa com melhor qualidade de vida. 2017 foi o ano oficial para visitar Viseu. Em 2018, Viseu celebrou-se como a Cidade Europeia do Folclore através do Festival Europeade. Em 2019, a cidade foi designada como Destino de Gastronomia.

PT// Desde a Pousada de Viseu, exploramos a pé a cidade de Viseu, onde destacamos a Praça da República, o coração da cidade, onde encontramos a Igreja dos Terceiros de São Francisco e o edificio da Câmara Municipal. Junto ao Jardim das Mães, podemos ver o magnifico Painel de Azulejos, que simboliza muito da cultura portuguesa. No centro histórico, a Rua Direita é de passagem obrigatória e é na Praça da Sé que encontramos a Sé Catedral, o Museu Nacional Grão Vasco e a Igreja da Misericórdia de Viseu.
Terminamos o passeio, com passagem no Teatro Viriato (um dos principais centros culturais da cidade), a Igreja de Nossa Senhora da Conceição e o Mural de Viriato (um exemplo de arte urbana e uma das principais atrações da cidade).
EN// From the Pousada de Viseu, we explored the city of Viseu on foot, where we highlighted the Republic Square, the heart of the city, where we found the Church of the Third Order of Saint Francis and the City Hall building. Next to the Mothers' Garden, we can see the magnificent Tile Panel, which symbolizes much of Portuguese culture. In the historic center, Rua Direita is a must-see and it is in the Sé Square that we find the Cathedral, the Grão Vasco National Museum, and the Viseu Mercy Church.
We ended the tour with a visit to the Viriato Theater (one of the city's main cultural centers), the Church of Our Lady of Conception, and the Viriato Mural (an example of urban art and one of the city's main attractions).

Casa de Darei, Viseu, Portugal HD review
Casa de Darei is a set of historical houses from the 16th century in Lugar de Darei, 5.6 miles from Mangualde Train Station. This 150-acre property offers a secluded location on the Dão riverside.
Each unit has a classic and historical décor, combining dark-wood furnishings with a exposed wooden beams. All living rooms include a fireplace, as well as some bedrooms. Some bedrooms have a fireplace, and others include a hammock.
Each unit includes a traditional kitchen made of stone with fireplace and fully equipped. Guests can enjoy their meals outdoors in the several dining areas spread through the property.
Casa de Darei provides free bicycles for guests’ use to discover the property. Guests can use the canoes and boat available to explore the river, and enjoy the equipped private river beach area.
Viseu city is 12.4 miles away from Casa de Darei, and features the Sé Cathedral, the Grão Vasco Museum and the old town with antique shops.

A Beautiful Hostel in Portugal: House of Sandeman
Don't sleep on hostels! They aren't all party places with drunk 20 year olds! Some are, but not all. In February 2023 I stayed 8 nights at the House of Sandeman in Gaia, right across the river from Porto in beautiful Portugal, and found it to be truly a gem. Yes, you have to share a room-- but it is centrally located, and for less than $20/night including breakfast (!!) I thought it was a tremendous deal. I really, really enjoyed my stay there and highly recommend it!! OH!! And you must try Sandeman port wine! Divine.

Viseu is the biggest city in the Beira Alta Region of Portugal. It is here that we are going to visit the statue of the Lusitanian hero Viriato that defended these lands against roman invaders over 2000 years ago.
