What to Know Before You Visit Ireland

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

Want to grab some great gear? We have used Osprey Packs for years & swear by them. Check them out here

Need some clothing for your next adventure? Patagonia has some pretty good stuff for all kinds of travelers.

Top best places to visit in Cork, Ireland
Cork, the second largest city in the Republic of Ireland, lies in the south of the country.

In reference to the city’s role during the Irish Civil War Corkonians often refer to the city as “The Real Capital”.

The center of the city forms an island between two channels of the River Lee.

There are about thirty bridges over the North and South channels.
On the banks of the river is the National Monument.

On the island are located also many important buildings, such as:
The Courthouse.

The Holy Trinity Friary, a Roman Catholic church affiliated with the Capuchin.

The Triskel Arts Centre, an 18th century Church turned into the Center for Contemporary Arts.

The Opera House which has always housed performances of all types and the Crawford Art Gallery a museum dedicated to the visual arts.

And finally the City Museum, which is mainly focused on the history and archeology of the Cork.

Adjacent to the museum Fitzgerald’s Park is a perfect place for a walk and a rest.

There are important landmarks outside the main island as well, such as:
The City Hall, the administrative headquarters of Cork.

The magnificent St Finbarr’s Cathedral, a fine 19th century neo-Gothic church.

The central bell tower of the Red Abbey, one of the last remaining visible structures of Cork.

And the castle-like City Gaol, a restored 19th century former prison, which is now a museum.

Everybody can enjoy the variety of architecture at the University College Cork being open to the public.

A great example of modernist style is within the grounds of University, the Lewis Glucksman Gallery.

Having been active military and police barracks for more than 400 years, the Elizabeth Fort was a 17th-century defensive fortification on high-ground.

From there you can enjoy the beautiful view of the city.

Another good place to see the city from high up is from St Anne’s Church, which is on the other side of town.

14) Mallow Castle - Cork County - Ireland (video 4K)

Mallow Castle (Desription en Français and in English below)

Music : Free Irish Music No Copyright - Nourished by Music

The first castle in Mallow was built on the instructions of King John in 1185. In 1282, it came into the possession of the Earls of Desmond. Following the Geraldine Wars, the estate was confiscated by Elizabeth I, who granted it to Sir Thomas Norrey along with the Lordship of Mallow and 6,000 acres (2,400 ha) of surrounding country. The Desmond Castle, as it was known, fell into such bad repair that in 1585 a new castle was constructed on the same site.

The fortified house dates from the 16th century and is believed to have been built by Sir Thomas Norreys, Lord President of Munster, who died in 1599. Following his death, his daughter Elizabeth and her husband Sir John Jephson inherited the house, with their family remaining in Mallow for almost 400 years. It was placed under siege by Richard Butler, 3rd Viscount Mountgarret, in 1642 during the Irish Confederate Wars and did not fall. It was captured in 1645 by James Tuchet, 3rd Earl of Castlehaven. The house was badly damaged by fire during the Williamite War and subsequently abandoned by the Jephsons. The Jephsons built the new mansion house on the site of the older castle's stable block.

The fortified house was made a National Monument in 1928. Commander Maurice Jephson sold the mansion to the McGinn family of Washington, D.C., in 1984. The castle and the grounds have been in the possession of Cork County Council since 2011.

Dunlough Castle or Three Castle Head: Unique In Ireland!

Dunlough Castle is also known as Three Castle Head. This castle not well-known, but it's a mystery why. I found it just mesmerizing and astonishing beautiful to visit. The ruins of this castle stand on the top of the cliffs at the northern tip of the Mizen Peninsula in Ireland. It looks at the Atlantic Ocean from the extreme southwest point. It connects Three Castles Head and was founded in 1207 by Donagh O’Mahony. Dunlough Castle, also known as Dunlough Fort, is one of the oldest castles in southern Ireland.

It is easy to visit on a 20 minute walk on private land. There's a donation box for maintaining the path and castle. You'll pass sheep and see the ocean from above. The castle has a series of three fortified towers, most of them are in good shape. It lies next to a lake and with some luck you can see sea fog. Which adds to the atmosphere.
