Day Trips from Tunis: Roman archaeology at Thuburbo Majus
Today we explore the Ancient Roman archaeological site of Thuburbo Majus, 60km south-west of Tunis in Zaghouan Governorate. Like nearby Uthina, this was formerly a Punic town that Emperor Augustus then used to settle his veterans following the last war of the Roman Republic, when Rome transitioned from Republic to Empire. Also like nearby Uthina, it is amazingly well preserved and we had the site completely to ourselves!

Jugurthine War battlefield (Numidians vs Romans): exploring Tunisia's north-west
Welcome to my latest travel VLOG here in Tunisia, North Africa. Join me as we explore the hot spring in the functional Roman baths of Hammam Mellegue. We then climb up Jugurtha's Table, a mesa that gives incredible views of the Ez-Zghalma plain in Kef Governorate. You can even see into Algeria from the top! We end the adventure by heading to Haïdra, right on the Algerian border, which used to be called Ammaedara, one of the oldest Roman cities in Africa. I hope this video encourages travel to Tunisia!

SITE ARCHÉOLOGIQUE DE SBEÏTLA - TUNISIE
Site archéologique de Sbeïtla - Tunisie

Le site archéologique de Sbeïtla est situé au centre de la Tunisie et l'on y retrouve les temples des forums romains les mieux conservés d'Afrique du Nord.
Nous sommes d'abord passé en autobus devant l'Arc de Dioclétien qui marquait jadis l'entrée de Sbeïtla.
Ce site est très grand. Il couvre une vingtaine d'hectares, mais la ville en occupait probablement le double. Nous n'en avons visité qu'une infime partie.
Les monuments sont nombreux et ceux que nous avons visité datent de l'époque romaine.
Nous avons débuté notre randonnée dans l'allée qui mène à l'entrée du forum. Celle-ci est bordée de murs de pierre ainsi que de nombreuses colonnes. De jolies fleurs viennent agrémenter le paysage.
Nous arrivons ainsi devant l'Arc d'Antonin qui donne accès au forum. A l'époque romaine, c'était la place centrale de la ville. C'est à cet endroit que se prenaient les décisions politiques et administratives de la ville.
En pénétrant dans l'enceinte du forum, le capitole nous apparaît dans toute sa splendeur. Il est formé de trois temples mitoyens qui célèbre chacun une divinité: Minerve, Jupiter ainsi que Junon.
Nous nous sommes également promenés sur le site pour découvrir d'autres attraits tels que de grandes thermes publics, des fortins ainsi que les vestiges d'une huilerie..
A certains endroits, le sol est recouvert de superbes mosaïques qui sont encore aujourd'hui très bien conservées.
Il y a également un théâtre dont les gradins ont été restaurés en 2010. Cependant, nous ne l'avons pas visité.

MAKTHAR, TUNISIA
Makthar is a town and archaeological site in Siliana Governorate, Tunisia.
Makthar was founded by the Berber Numidians as a defense post against Carthaginian expansion. At the end of the Third Punic War, it was settled by many Punic refugees after the Romans' destruction of Carthage in 146 bc. Under Roman rule, it obtained the status of a free city under Julius Caesar in 46 bc and became a Roman colony in ad 146. It formed part of the province of Byzacena[ and was the seat of a Christian bishop. Under the Romans and Byzantines, it reversed its earlier role to serve as a defense post against local Berber attacks. The town survived the Muslim invasions but was destroyed by the Banu Hilal tribe in the 11th century before being reëstablished

Day Trips from Tunis: Hiking & Urbex - abandoned Roman mineshafts on Djebel Ressas, Tunisia
We went to try and climb Djebel Ressas, a 795m peak in Tunisia's Ben Arous Governorate. Instead, we got lost in an abandoned mineshaft! After a fun bit of urbex it all worked out OK in the end, and we enjoyed some amazing views from high up on the mountain. Such a sunny day in the north of Tunisia!

Kesra | Hiking | Tunisia
Join me as I hike over the hills of Kesra in Tunisia!!
Along the way we see an old village, excellent rock formations, cliffs, sheep, cows plus great views all around!
Kesra is a town and commune in the Siliana Governorate, Tunisia. As of 2004 it had a population of 2,490.

The Battle of Zama: where Hannibal was defeated in Punic Wars! Finding the battlefield
In today's travel VLOG we explore three archaeological sites in Tunisia's Siliana Governorate. First we head to the ruins of Kbor Klib, which may have been built by infamous Roman ruler Julius Caesar. Then, we track down the mysterious mausoleum at Kasour Toual Zouamel. Lastly, we walk around Zama Minor (Zama Regia), which is likely near the site of the Battle of Zama in 202 BCE. This was where Scipio Africanus defeated Hannibal and his elephants to end the Second Punic War.

Ain Damous and Cap Blanc | Tunisia
This trip takes us to Bizerte located in Northern Tunisia. We hike from the famous Cap Blanc (White Point) to the beach and then woods of Ain Damous.
A sunny but very windy day, we start our hike very close to Cap Blanc. Climbing to the top we get a great view of the Mediterranean Sea, I cannot describe juts how beautiful the view was.
We then hiked back down, got a little bike show as some guys showed up and one of them rode his dirt bike all the way up to the top and back down. We hiked along a busy path always seeing the sea close by. Then we saw Ain Damous beach on the distance, again words cannot describe the view. Waling along the large sand dunes we made our way into the woods.
We stopped for lunch and then continued the hike over some small rivers, or more like streams. Over the day I discovered that there were at least five different nationalities on the group. German, Moroccan, Libyan, a camera shy person from the Netherland, of course Tunisians and myself, a Trinidadian. It was really cool to meet all these different persons on one group.
We hiked out to a village and then the bus. A great day, great views and great people.

Randonnée Djbel Bargo - Siliana - Tunisie - برقو سليانة
Le djebel Bargou est une montagne tunisienne qui culmine à 1 266 m d'altitude. Située au centre-nord du pays, à une vingtaine de kilomètres au sud-est de la ville de Siliana, il donne son nom à la ville située sur son versant septentrional, à quelques kilomètres de son point culminant.
La montagne nous offre le décor ... A nous d'inventer l'histoire qui va avec !
