Mahina es una comuna francesa situada en la subdivisión de Islas de Barlovento, que forma parte de la colectividad de ultramar de Polinesia Francesa.
Mahina fue llamada sucesivamente Uparu, Haavai y Haapape antes de tomar el nombre de Mahina.
Leyenda de Mahina Verohuri o te Purutu: Un día allí vivía un chef y su compañero Hina en el maraare Fareroi en la llanura de Mahina. Llegó un momento en que el jefe de Fareroi luchó en el valle de Ahonu. Hina se quedó en su campamento con su suite, pero quería nadar en el río en el valle de Tuauru.
Fue en la bahía de Matavai, contigua al punto de Venus, donde los primeros europeos desembarcaron en 1767, luego los misioneros protestantes ingleses enviados por la Sociedad Misionera de Londres el 5 de marzo de 1797, marcando el comienzo de la Cristianización de la Polinesia.
Llegada que siempre se conmemora cada año en esta fecha.
Desde 1867, el faro de Pointe Vénus ha marcado el extremo norte de la isla de Tahití.

Fu nella baia di Matavai, adiacente al punto di Venere, dove sbarcarono i primi europei nel 1767, poi i missionari protestanti inglesi inviati dalla Società Missionaria di Londra il 5 marzo 1797, segnando l'inizio della cristianizzazione della Polinesia.

Since the upper approach is very tricky, slippery and dangerous, we will be happy to view the waterfall from the bottom below.
