Magsaysay, officially the Municipality of Magsaysay (Tagalog: Bayan ng Magsaysay), is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Occidental Mindoro, Philippines. Magsaysay was formerly as a part of San Jose. Magsaysay, one of the eleven municipalities in the Occidental Mindoro, lies on the southernmost part of Mindoro Island, and is adjacent to the municipality of San Jose on the north; on the east separated by chain of valleys and mountains in the municipality of Bulalacao, Oriental Mindoro; on the south, by Garza Island; and on the west by Iling Island.

Magsaysay - Province of Occidental Mindoro
Magsaysay is a coastal municipality in the province of Occidental Mindoro.
The municipality has a land area of 296.70 square kilometers or 114.56 square miles which constitutes 5.06% of Occidental Mindoro's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 36,016. This represented 7.39% of the total population of Occidental Mindoro province, or 1.22% of the overall population of the MIMAROPA region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 121 inhabitants per square kilometer or 314 inhabitants per square mile.

Gasa Island, as well known to natives of this place, and is a 30-min walk island's circumference with white beach, situated in the gulfs of Ilin island and southern part of Mindoro island proper. feel its white sand beach during summer.
HISTORY OF MAGSAYSAY TOWN
One could start the history of this municipality with the history of its two oldest communities --- Caguray and Sta. Teresa. Caguray was mentioned in the report of a Jesuit missionary to the head of his congregation in 1666. The missionary reported that he baptized many adults in the villages of Cagulay and Ililin. When Congressman Pedro Medalla, Sr. was elected as the representative of Occidental Mindoro in 1965, he strived to separate Magsaysay and Rizal from San Jose and created those places as independent municipalities. On April 3, 1969 by virtue of Republic Act 5459 which Congressman Medalla sponsored in Congress, Magsaysay was elevated to the status of a municipality. Placed under the jurisdiction of the new town were the barrios of Alibog, Laste, Caguray, Sibalat, Sta. Teresa, Calawag, Nicolas, Gapasan, Purnaga, Paclolo and Lourdes.

This is an annual historic event in Occidental Mindoro where the people of this province of various religious congregations, beliefs, and political differences, varying ethnically & indigenous people, customs and traits are strongly “unified.” Each year, the people of Occidental Mindoro, the students, professionals, businessmen, government officials, together with the rural folks and indigenous people participate in the activities. The usual celebration highlights exhibition of this province natural attractions, agricultural, coastal and marine products, street dancing, fairs, sports, competition, parade of beauties and recognition to achievers or outstanding performers of the province. It is celebrated every 11th day of November in celebration of the Province of Occidental Mindoro’s founding anniversary.
