Maglie è situata in posizione centrale rispetto alla penisola salentina e maggiormente esposta verso la costa adriatica con la quale comunica agevolmente tramite un'arteria a scorrimento veloce per mezzo della quale in 10 minuti si raggiunge Otranto. Maglie si collega bene anche al capoluogo di provincia Lecce tramite una statale a scorrimento veloce da cui dista 20 minuti di auto. I restanti collegamenti sono molto veloci tramite numerose strade provinciale che raggiungono Leuca e Gallipoli e i restanti comuni della penisola salentina. Maglie ha una storia molto importante e anche se non rientra tra i comuni della grecia salentina ne risalta numerosi elementi architettonici, costruttivi e gastronomici.
Emilio Panarese, storico e studioso del posto, richiama invece ed integra precedenti interpretazioni di storici locali dell'ottocento. A suo avviso il nome deriverebbe dal toponimo di origine messapica e quindi illirica, mal, notevolmente diffuso in tutta l'area mediterranea (e non solo nel Salento). Il significato del toponimo, in contrasto con la pianura su cui è adagiata la città, ma concorde con la fantasia degli abitanti (che vedevano un monte per ogni piccola sopraelevazione), sarebbe quindi quello di altura, cima o monte. La forma latinizzata Malliae corrisponderebbe a Mallia, toponimo dell'isola di Siro, nelle Cicladi, e a Malia, antica città dell'isola di Creta.
Le prime testimonianze di insediamenti umani sul luogo appartengono all'età del bronzo. I primi abitanti furono presumibilmente discendenti delle popolazioni eneolittiche e neolitiche, capaci di coltivare, allevare, costruire villaggi e innalzare specchie, dolmen e menhir). La zona ospita numerose testimonianze del megalitico (in contrada Policarita, si erge il dolmen con caratteristiche arcaiche denominato Chianca ed altri dolmen sono: i due Caramauli nella località omonima, Canali a Muntarrune piccinnu, Grotta, Pino e Specchia a San Sidero. Analogamente, abbondano i menhir: Calamauri, Crocemuzza (o Franite) e Sprunu. La più importante testimonianza di presenza umana sul posto è il giacimento di manufatti nel fondo Cattìe scoperto nel 1980: circa 12.000 strumenti e schegge e 800 reperti di ossa, (compresa una falange umana fossile, probabilmente appartenente ad un uomo di Neanderthal). Altre importanti testimonianze sono: una laura basiliana (insediamento monastico dell' VIII al IX secolo) in contrada Fraganite, distrutta nel 1975, e i complessi cimiteriali alto-mediovali nel fondo Adamuccio.
Intorno al IX secolo gli abitanti della zona iniziarono a spostarsi dalle alture che oggi circondano la città a quella che oggi è la zona centro, ricca di acqua poiché raggiunta da un corso d'acqua sotterraneo.
Tra il XIII e il XIX secolo il casale di Maglie cominciò a svilupparsi intorno al Castello, che ospitò i primi feudatari della zona. Il maniero fu presumibilmente costruito al tempo degli Angioini e successivamente rinforzato e ristrutturato da Andriolo Lubello (che fu barone di Maglie sotto il regno di Alfonso I di Aragona). La costruzione rimase pressoché immutata per secoli fino a quando don Ascanio Filomarino (divenuto feudatario del luogo), decise di ammodernarla e ristrutturarla, costruendo una facciata elegante dalle proporzioni armoniose che sostituisse la grave e austera mole della fortezza militare. Tale palazzo fu poi impreziosito con un portale in stile barocco, sormontato dallo scudo araldico dei Capece, succeduti ai Filomarino nel possesso del casale. (Fonte wikipedia)

The heart of Lecce is undoubtedly the part of the city that is able to enclose, simply walking, the most beautiful architectural beauties of the city in a mixture of styles and eras. The Historic Center is a must that must necessarily be admired if you are in Lecce even for a single day. The itinerary we suggest to visit it starts from the Obelisk and from Porta Napoli, one of the historical gates of the city (the other are Porta Rudiae and Porta San Biagio) which offers you a magical entrance to discover the wonders of the old city, a sort of passage that, almost like a stargate will be able to bring you back in time.
Leave the car in one of the streets to the right of the Obelisk, in order to avoid the paid parking lots in the center. At this point, to get in front of the Gate, you will pass by the Obelisk. It is a monument that connects the new city - frontally and to its right - and the oldest part to its left. It was built by order of the Bourbons in 1822 by Vito Carluccio, has four facades that tell a story from the base going upwards: below is clearly a dolphin biting a crescent, or the Bourbon victory against the Turks.
So go to Porta Napoli through a modern and pleasant square and in a few seconds you will find the door in front of your eyes: the entrance was made in the sixteenth century by Charles V, you can immediately admire its grandeur. The front part supports the triumphal arch with Corinthian columns supporting a triangular pediment with the effigy of the Hapsburg Empire.
Crossing Porta Napoli you will enter the old city itself, closed to traffic . Proceed, however, turning to the right, since the way presents a more interesting aspect than proceeding from the front. You will therefore walk along the paved Via Palmieri , admiring the Paiesiello Theater from the outside and continuing straight on until you reach Piazza Duomo. Here you will find one of the most beautiful city squares enclosed in a large courtyard. Enjoy an ice cream sitting on one of the many steps that make entrance to the Duomo is a common habit among the locals and you will particularly appreciate the play of light on the Duomo itself, the bell tower and the whole area after sunset: the atmosphere that you will find is ancient, magical and romantic.
Exit from Piazza Duomo and choose: turning left along Via Libertini you will reach the other city gate ( Porta Rudiae ) coming out again from the Center, while on the right along Via Vittorio Emanuele II you will go even further into Lecce Baroque. On the left you will find the newly renovated Church of Sant'Irene , several lounge bars and takeaways, souvenir shops and bookshops, until you reach the wonderful Piazza Sant'Oronzo , the essence of the city.

Inizio da Maglie, dove ho incontrato Ilaria, che ho contattato e invitato ma che non è potuta venire per motivi di famiglia.
Gente e traffico, con tanto di coda per i tamponi.
Villa Tamborino è chiusa, PECCATO !
Mi sarebbe tanto piaciuto visitare il parco.
Andata registrata con lo smartphone; ritorno con l' actio cam.
Bella luce e quindi bei colori.
Devo ricordarmi di comprare uno zaino a tracolla per sistemare l' attrezzatura mentre riprendo, altrimenti filmare e contemporaneamente tenere lo zaino che uso adesso, rende tutto più difficile, infatti le riprese talvolta non sono fluide come voglio io.
