Mae Sot is located about three hundred miles from Bangkok is among the most culturally diverse cities in Thailand. Thai , Burmese, Hmong, and Karen live in this city bordering Burma/Myanmar.

Mae Sot is thankfully devoid of the typical trappings offered in many of the tourist-expat areas. A interesting and fascinating place to spend a few days exploring. If you are looking for a party atmosphere Mae Sot is likely not for you.

Tourism Fail on a Perfect Day (Mae Sot, Thailand)

The sun came out after many days of near constant rain, and that inspired me to hop on the scooter and head out to play tourist for the day.

The plan was to visit a national park south of Mae Sot, and ramble around their scenic waterfall. After that, I could ride up into the nearby hills to a scenic lookout point.

It turns out that being a tourist in these unusual times is not that easy. Perhaps not even possible. But, even so, I ended up having a perfect day.

This is a shorter version of the video about this day. I also put together a longer EXTENDED CUT with more of my thoughts as I rode along.

Day 1: Water Levels Rising (Mae Sot, Thailand)

The rainy season is in full swing in Western Thailand. And that means day after day of light and heavy rain here in Mae Sot.

After yet another night of non-stop rain, I grabbed my umbrella and went out to look at the nearby canal. I was curious to see if the water levels in the canal system had risen at all.

A Touch of Elegance in Mae Sot: Irawadee Resort

I just happened to be walking down one of the main streets of Mae Sot the other day, and, as I've done dozens of times, I walked past the Irawadee Resort Hotel. It's a well known hotel and is quite popular with foreign visitors to Mae Sot.

Each time I've walked past, I've thought that I should pop inside and take a look around. And I never did, until this day. And this video is the result. I tour the grounds and the restaurant and lobby, and I take a look inside a couple of the rooms.

Shot on a GoPro Hero 7 Black
Audio recorded with a Rode Wireless Go microphone
Edited on a Xiaomi Redmi Note 9 Pro smartphone using PowerDirector for Android

Five-Snack Challenge - Day Trip Edition (Mae Sot, Thailand)

What is there to say about this video? I went for a scooter ride in the countryside south of Mae Sot, Thailand, and on the way, I tried out some tasty snacks. ????

I was actually on my way to a new coffee shop. And the video about my time at that quite special place is coming soon. But that coffee shop was about 35 kilometers away. And I thought I would spice up the journey by keeping my eyes open for some tasty snacks along the way.

The goal, as always, was to try at least 5 snacks (food or drinks). And they didn't have to be the best snacks or the most traditional or the most special. My goal was to sample whatever just happened to catch my eye.
