Ecuador is one of the most diverse countries in the world though it's comparably tiny. Beside the Galapagos Islands (which is the #1 tourist destination in Ecuador) the country has a lot more to offer, therefore I focussed on La Sierra in this video which is a paradise for landscape lovers and outdoor adventurers.

Another reason to visit the Andean region is that you have the chance to dive into the local culture and get a real feeling of Ecuador. The places to see in Ecuador I focussed on in this short video are the result of my own travels along the center from north to south and are easily doable in 2 weeks time.

Things to do in Ecuador covered in this video:
01) 00:36 - Otavalo market in Otavalo
02) 01:00 - Hike the Cuicocha lake
03) 01:25 - Middle of the World, Mitad del Mundo & Quitsato in Cayambe
04) 01:48 - Quito, capital & UNESCO World Heritage
05) 02:08 - Termas de Papallacta (hot springs)
06) 02:24 - Cayambe Coca National Park
07) 02:45 - Quilotoa & Shalala viewpoint
08) 03:13 - Tren Crucero & Nariz del Diablo (Devil's nose)
09) 03:47 - Inka ruins in Ingapirca
10) 04:04 - Cuenca & it's beautiful old town

What are your best things to do in Ecuador?
I’m looking forward to more tips from other travelers and Ecuador experts. Have you been and know of some cool places? Let us know in the comments below!

I Was Not Expecting THIS in the Amazon | Macas ECUADOR

Macas Ecuador is the largest city in the Amazon with 20,000 people. It's a mix of modern and tradition, here's why you should visit.

You can support my work at where I share tips that don't make it to videos and behind the scenes content.

FEATURED IN MACAS
Mamma Luna
C. Soasti, Macas, Ecuador

Catedral de La Purísima de Macas
MVWM+2H6, Don Bosco, Macas, Ecuador

Mercado Central Macas
MVVH+VQQ, 10 de Agosto, Macas, Ecuador

El Fogón Macabeo
Avenida 29 de Mayo entre Kiruba, y, Macas 140101, Ecuador

Mirador del Quilamo
MVX6+Q7W, Macas, Ecuador

I'm in the northern part of the Morona Santiago province. This is the capital city and the largest city with 20,000 people. Now we're only two hours from Puyo in the northern Amazon and five hours from Cuenca. And this is a fantastic spot to explore.

We're here at Mamma Luna in Macas, and it's an interesting kind of breakfast spot just around the corner from our hostel on a very popular street with restaurants and interesting places to grab a drink. Now, at Mamma Luna, they're open for breakfast, and they have 12 different kinds of breakfasts depending on what region you're from.

And it starts with a drink from Ecuador is Guayusa it is a tea made out of a leaf that exists here in the Amazon that is dried and then steeped like a tea. Now, this existed long before coffee. Coffee is not actually native to Ecuador, it came over from the Middle East. And while Ecuador makes fantastic coffee, this is the original stimulant guayusa. And so they call it the Red Bull of the Amazon.

So right at the heart of Macas is Central Park and then also this church. This virgin is known as purisima or the pure one, and it overlooks this park. So normally, when you go into a Catholic Church, you see Jesus on the cross during the crucifixion, but this is all about his redemption. So actually, he's no longer on the cross.

Mercado Central outside market is open Saturdays and Sundays, and they bring things in from the Amazon. There are lots of different things that have never even seen don't exist in the other markets in Ecuador.

Fogon Macabeo is a very traditional spot here in Macas that really tries to promote traditional food from Macas or comida Macabeo.
They serve a morcilla macabea, traditional to this area. They also serve papa china literally means Chinese potato. It's actually taro root.

Just seven kilometers outside the downtown core of Macas is a neighborhood Quilamo and it's at the top of the hill. And here there's a church with a giant virgin of Macas on top and it overlooks Macas, and it is stunning. You do need to get a cab out here you definitely can't walk it so if you are not driving get a cab because this is an amazing view

Luxury Glamping in the Amazon: Macas ECUADOR

Traveling to the Amazon isn't always roughing it. Glamping in Ecuador allows you to see the Amazon in luxury. Here in Macas I stayed in a tiny house and a geodesic dome.

You can reach Macas Glamping directly here:
or message them on Whatsapp.

If you're planning to travel in Ecuador you need Whatsapp, which replaces costly texting. It's owned by Facebook and all businesses use it. Add it to your phone BEFORE traveling and you can use wifi to make calls. But in Ecuador it's customary to text on whatsapp before calling or emailing. You'll get a much quicker response and it's handy if you don't speak Spanish as you can use Google translate.

I reached out to Macas Glamping to feature them in a video. They offered me one night in La Barca and I paid for the second night so we could relax and not rush the experience.

I don't list prices because they always change in Ecuador. It depends on when you want to go, how many people, what day of the week, what season, and how long you'll stay. Most places will negotiate a good price depending on this. I always choose to stay mid-week and in off season (when possible) which means I can ask for a lower price.

You can support my work at where I share tips that don't make it to videos and behind the scenes content.

Colonial town in the AMAZON ??? Gualaquiza Ecuador

Ecuador's Amazon is diverse but Gualaquiza was like nothing I expected.
Only three hours from Cuenca, it's possible to go for the day but you'll want to stay a few days. It's a comfortable Amazon town with a delicious market and not far from lots of interesting tours and traditional Ecuadorian food.

Mirador Indichuris, Puyo, Pastaza | Templo de la Amazonía, Macas, Morona-Santiago

We drove from Cuenca Macas to visit the Templo de la Amzonía (Amazonian Cultures Center) and to Puyo to visit the Indichuris Community and the Indihuris “Mirador” or lookout point overlooking the Pastaza River valley.

The Ecuadorian Amazonian Region should not be missed by anyone looking for an ecotourism adventure. The Jungles of Ecuador and Amazonian cultures are truly unique and experiencing them is well worth the trip, not to mention that fact that tourism in the rainforest provides a healthy and sustainable alternative to the extraction of natural resources.

FPV tour of Arrayan y Piedra Hotel with GEPRC Cinelog35 + GoPro Bones in Macas, Ecuador

The combination of the Cinelog 35 + GoPro Hero 10 Bones is my go-to for cinematic FPV because the lightweight GoPro Bones allows the Cinelog to fly as if it were not carrying a camera at all, being more agile with longer flight times than with a full GoPro.

The bright, sunny weather and the beautiful scenery and insane vistas overlooking the Upano River provided the opportunity for some insane cinemativ FPV shots.

FAQ’s ❓
-How do you afford to travel?
