Latvia winter hiking - Viesatas upesloku takas
This is Viesata, a river hike one hour from Riga. We went there with a couple friends. It had snowed a lot recently, the temperature was -12C and it promised to be a clear day.
The hike is not difficult, even in winter, the round hiking trip is around 8km or two hours at a moderate pace. Entry is free of charge, easy to park nearby.

Замок Эдоле задуман как водный замок - он был защищен со всех сторон водными преградами, в том числе глубокими рвами, вырытыми с трех сторон. Водные преграды ограничивают территорию размером 66 х 150 метров, на которой расположены замок и - в прошлом - привокзальная площадь.
Средневековая часть замка имеет высоту 31,5 х 34,5 метра, вход в замок ведет с востока. Самая старая часть средневекового замка - северное здание, под которым также построены просторные подвалы. Позже были построены западный и южный корпусы. Круглая башня была построена в 16 веке. Все эти постройки включают внутренний двор. 18.-19. В результате реконструкции 19 века был создан двор с небольшой башней.
Средневековые интерьеры замка были реконструированы в 1835-1841 годах. в то время как интерьеры 19 века в значительной степени были потеряны в пожаре 1905 года и позже. Сохранились дубовые балюстрады в вестибюле и часть других деталей.
Над входом в замок находится герб семьи Бери, построенный около 1840 года.

Ēdoles pils veidota kā ūdenspils - to no visām pusēm aizsargāja ūdens šķēršļi, tai skaitā no trim pusēm rakti dziļi grāvji. Ūdens šķēršļi norobežo 66 x 150 metrus lielu laukumu, kur atrodas pils un - agrākos laikos - arī priekšpilis.
Pils viduslaiku daļa ir 31,5 x 34,5 metrus liela, ieeja pilī vedusi no austrumiem. Senākā viduslaiku pils daļa ir ziemeļu korpuss, zem kura izbūvēti arī plaši pagrabi. Vēlāk uzbūvēts rietumu un dienvidu korpuss. 16. gadsimtā uzbūvēts apaļais tornis. Visas šīs būves ietver iekšpagalmu. 18.-19. gadsimta pārbūvju rezultātā izveidojies arī saimniecības pagalms ar mazu tornīti.
Pils viduslaiku interjeri tika pārveidoti 1835.-1841. gada pārbūvē, savukārt 19. gadsimta interjeri lielā mērā zuduši 1905. gada ugunsgrēkā un vēlākos laikos. Saglabājušās ozolkoka balustrādes ieejas hallē un daļa no citām detaļām.
Virs ieejas pilī atrodas ap 1840. gadu veidots Bēru dzimtas ģerbonis.
Ar pili saistīts lielāks skaits nostāstu, tai skaitā par brāļu naidu un slepkavību, kura rezultātā uz pils sienas parādījies nenomazgājams asins traips, kura vietā nācies izbūvēt kamīnu. Ar pili saistīts arī nostāsts par rūķīšu kāzām, kā arī lielāks skaits mūsdienu nostāstu par jaunākajos laikos redzētām dīvainām parādībām.
Edole Castle was designed as a water castle - it was protected on all sides by water obstacles, including deep ditches dug on three sides. Water barriers delimit a 66 x 150 meter area where the castle and - in the past - the forecourt are located.
The medieval part of the castle is 31.5 x 34.5 meters high, the entrance to the castle leads from the east. The oldest part of the medieval castle is the northern building, under which spacious cellars are also built. Later, the western and southern buildings were built. The castle is also associated with the story of a dwarf wedding, as well as a larger number of modern stories about strange phenomena seen in recent times.
