Bergisch Gladbach is a city in the Cologne/Bonn Region of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, and capital of the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis.
The word Bergisch in the name does not originate from its location in the county of Berg and was not added to distinguish it from Mönchengladbach as believed by many people, but from the counts who gave their name to the region. At the start of the 12th century, the counts of Berg settled in the area and it later became the duchy (under Napoleon, the grand duchy) of Berg. This is where the first part of the name (Bergisch) comes from, the town is located in the former county of Berg. It is the administrative headquarters ('Kreisstadt') of the Rheinish-Bergisch district (or 'Kreis').

Mönchengladbach is a city made up of a group of boroughs around the historic towns of Gladbach and Rheydt. Mönchengladbach is bursting with green spaces, like the Bunter Garten, which cuts Gladbach in two. Some of these parks are medieval properties, with Baroque and Renaissance palaces like Schloss Rheydt and Schloss Wickrath at their heart. Many foreign sports fans will know the city for its football team, Borussia Mönchengladbach who regularly finish above bigger clubs in the Bundesliga. And for culture the Abteiberg has acclaimed modern and contemporary art in an astonishing postmodern building praised by the likes of Frank Gehry. I am starting at the City Hall Abtei and then walking towards the Alter Markt following a quick view to the Citykirche Alter Markt (Church) before heading to the long shopping street until I reach the Main Station.

#mönchengladbach is a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. It is located west of the Rhine, halfway between Düsseldorf and the Dutch border.

Mönchengladbach has a long football tradition. Its home club, Borussia Mönchengladbach, is one of the country's most well-known, best-supported, and successful teams. The club plays on the Borussia-Park stadium with a capacity of 54,057. The club has the fourth largest fan club in Germany, The Foals (Die Fohlen), with more than 50,000 active members.

In Limburgisch[3][circular reference], the regional dialect, laid is said gelaat, a word which eventually evolved to glad (in this case the 'd' is pronounced as a 't'). The second part of the word, bach is the standard German word for a small stream.
