Ústí nad Labem formerly known by its German name Aussig, is the 7th-most populous city of the Czech Republic. It is the capital of its eponymous region and district. Ústí is situated in a mountainous district at the confluence of the Bílina and Elbe rivers. It is a major industrial center and, besides being an active river port, is an important railway junction. Cesky Krumlov to Ceske Budejovice by train? The best way to travel between the two. But what are trains like in Czechia? How is the Czech Republic when it comes to trains?
Would you expect modern luxurious trains or some old ones with that Eastern European vibe (despite the fact Czechia is a Central European country - don't listen to the media)? How was the ride? What did I find on the toilet floor? All the answers, and even more, in today's episode.
As an extra info, the fastest way from Ceske Budejovice to Cesky Krumlov (or the other way around) is by bus or car - I have to admit that. But I always choose to go by train, when the option exists, because it's just way more pleasant, beautiful and... I just love trains so much. Expect to pay around 2 euros/USD for a 45 minutes ride. Trains in Czechia are especially cheap, if you come from North America, Western Europe, etc.

Hrad Točník - Točník Castle
Točník je zřícenina hradu v Středočeském kraji, 2 km severně od města Žebrák, v okrese Beroun. Hrad založil Václav IV. Nyní je ve vlastnictví státu (správu zajišťuje Národní památkový ústav) a je přístupný veřejnosti. Hrad je chráněn jako kulturní památka a spolu se zříceninou Žebráku jako národní kulturní památka.
Vlastní dějiny hradu Točníka začínají koncem 14. století, kdy jej jako honosné reprezentační sídlo nechal zbudovat král český a římský Václav IV. Bezprostředním popudem byl zřejmě požár dolního hradu Žebráka roku 1395. Místo obtížné přestavby Žebráka, který se kvůli své poloze na úzkém skalním ostrohu nedal příliš rozšířit, nechal panovník zbudovat větší hrad na větším kopci. Kromě pohodlí přitom zajisté myslel i na větší bezpečnost, neboť jeho vláda byla provázena četnými konflikty s panstvem – v roce 1394 byl dokonce zajat přívrženci svého bratra Zikmunda a delší dobu vězněn v Praze a později ve Vídni. České země zdecimované morovou ranou v roce 1380 zažívaly tou dobou pomalý ústup z výsluní, na které je vynesl Václavův otec Karel IV., a na obzoru už se chystala husitská revoluce. Václav tehdy často utíkal z Prahy a uchyloval se na své hrady v Křivoklátských lesích, především na Křivoklát a později právě na Žebrák a Točník. Kromě příležitostí k honitbě mu na poloze Točníka vyhovovala především blízkost významné zemské stezky z Prahy do Norimberka.
První léta 15. století byla pro nový hrad zároveň i zlatou érou. I když Václav IV. přišel roku 1400 o korunu římského krále, hlavní brána byla stále vyzdobena znaky mnoha zemí, jejichž korunu si Václav nárokoval. Po Václavově smrti připadl hrad jeho bratru Zikmundovi, ten se však v Čechách příliš nezdržoval, a tak Točník přečkal husitskou revoluci jako zástava v držení Seinsheimů a později Kolovratů. Jelikož šlo o rody katolické, staly se hrady Žebrák i Točník roku 1425 terčem husitského útoku. Bezmála osmitisícové vojsko oba hrady po tři dny obléhalo a poté neúspěšně odtáhlo dál, směrem ke katolické Plzni.

The largest passenger railway station in the Czech Republic and Prague's most crucial railway station. The historic building and the hall above the railway yard are among the most significant Art Nouveau monuments in the Czech Republic. Many shops and food establishments will make waiting for your connection more pleasant. Occasional-themed exhibitions are held in the check-in hall. It opened in 1871 as Franz Josef Station, after Franz Joseph I of Austria. During the First Republic and from 1945 to 1948, the station was called Wilson Station (Czech: Wilsonovo nádraží), after the former President of the United States, Woodrow Wilson. In 2014, the station served 224,505 trains (610 daily) and more than 53,000,000 passengers.

Žižkov is a lively neighborhood that attracts crowds of students to its numerous pubs. Well-dressed diners sip cocktails against a panoramic backdrop in the bar of the futuristic, communist-era Žižkov TV Tower. Vítkov hill, topped by the monumental National Memorial, also offers sweeping views. Franz Kafka, the author of The Trial and The Metamorphosis, is buried in the New Jewish Cemetery.

HIKING LYSÁ HORA - CZECH REPUBLIC
Hello awesome people,
On the last day of autumn 2020 we went hiking Lysá hora, the highest peak of the Beskydy Mountains in the Czech Republic. It was so nice as there was some snow during that time and also a fun hike. Lysá hora or the Bald Mountain is 1,323 M high. It was my first time in Czech Republic to hike a mountain of more than 1,000 M. It reminds me of Mount Batur on Bali which is 1,717 M that I usually hiked with my friends when I was there. It's not the same of course but it reminds me of the more than 1,000 M high mountains that I've hiked before. Fun memories.
Lysá hora has a clear path which is comfortable to hike. Nice view approaching the top and of course at the top. What was challenging for me during the hike up was the different temperatures that I needed to adapt at the start of the hike and in the middle of the hike (maybe it's just a tropical problem haha..) but I managed well thanks also to M for the support. More on the fun details are to see on the video.
Overall it's an awesome experience to have. M and I plan to hike more of the Czech Republic's highest peaks maybe in this winter and all the way towards summer this year. Since it is lockdown in the Czech Republic, we'd spend more time in the nature. We will see. It is highly recommended to visit or hike Lysá hora. I saw on instagram some people hiked it this winter, it looks so nice up there.

Bezděz Castle (Czech: Hrad Bezděz) is a Gothic castle located 20 km southeast of Česká Lípa, in the Liberec Region, Northern Bohemia, Czech Republic. We went there to look around, and enjoy the scenery. Despite of an unforeseen turn of events when we were heading back home to Hradec, our car broke down in the middle of the road. this will forever be in my memory. :)
