This is the Incredible Irente Viewpoint in Lushoto, Tanzania, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the whole of Africa.

A farming area, Lushoto didn't have clear skies at first due to crop burning, but eventually the smoke cleared and we had an incredible view! Lushoto is the Norway of Tanzania.

This was my second stop of a 5-week trip taking a Land Cruiser across Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda. Stay tuned for more episodes!

Lushoto is a town in the Usambara Mountains of Tanzania. It is the capital of Lushoto District, Tanga Region. The 2012 national census estimated the population of Lushoto ward at 28,190.

Hiking Alone in the Usambara Mountains, Tanzania

Such an epic journey, I really hope more people get out for this adventure. All. of the details, itinerary, what to pack, where to stay, maps and photos are in my massive 5000-word guide to the Usambara Mountains:

I began in Lushoto and hiked the following four-day itinerary:
Lushoto to Lukozi: 26km
Lukozi to Rangwi: 16km
Rangwi to Mambo: 15km
Mambo to Mtae via Kideghe Falls: 16km

Along the way I stayed at homestays, a nun's convent, eco-lodges and guesthouses. Including food and accommodation the entire trip cost me $70 USD plus the $6 USD bus to and from Arusha (6-12 hour journey)

Watch out for Chameleons on the trail! All the locals were super friendly and I found the entire trail safe. I had. GPX map to lead the way but most people take a local guide.
