Pampanga Road Trip No. 8 : Lubao, home of Sampaguita Festival and the location of one of the oldest churches in the country.
Lubao is a 1st class municipality in the province of Pampanga, Philippines. According to the 2020 census, it has a population of 173,502 people.
Located in the south-western part of Pampanga, Lubao is bounded by the municipalities of Sasmuan on the east, Guagua on the north-east, Floridablanca on the north and Hermosa, Bataan, on the south.
The town's name is derived from the Kapampangan word lubaw, which means open space.
Lubao is known for its annual Lubao International Balloon and Music Festival, which started in 2014 and has since become a major tourist attraction in the province.
The town is also home to the historic Lubao Church (also known as San Agustin Church), which was built in the 17th century and is considered one of the oldest churches in the Philippines.
Lubao is also known for its culinary delicacies, such as the Betute or stuffed frogs, which is a unique delicacy that is rarely found elsewhere, and the sweet rice cake called Tibok-tibok.
The town's economy is primarily based on agriculture, with rice, sugarcane, and fish being the major products.
Lubao is composed of 44 barangays or villages, each with its own distinct culture and traditions.
Some notable personalities who hail from Lubao include former Philippine president Diosdado Macapagal and his daughter, former president Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

Pampanga's Best Heritage & Food Tour. Lubao, Sasmuan, Guagua, Betis, Bacolor, San Fernado, Angeles
It was our first time to explore the interior towns of Pampanga, and we were extremely excited.
After our adventure in Zambales, we entered Pampanga via Lubao and visited its Bamboo Hub and Park. We were very happy to see many varieties of bamboos.
Later, we drove through interior roads of Lubao, Sasmuan, Guagua, Betis and Bacolor. We marveled at their beautiful heritage churches, ancestral houses and beautiful plazas. We were particularly amazed by the magnificently painted ceiling of the Santiago de Apostol Church in Betis and the fully restored sunken church of San Guillermo in Bacolor.
Another gem which we discovered was the old train station in San Fernando which was built in 1892. It was also very historic as the Filipino & American soldiers were loaded here after walking for over 100 kilometers during the infamous Death March.
No Pampanga tour is complete without stopping for pasalubong at Susie's Cuisine in Angeles and trying the best sisig in the world, the original Aling Lucing's.

FEBRUARY 16-18, 2018—For Marie's 2018 birthday we gathered the extended family for a 3D2N stay at a farm resort in Lubao, Pampanga. We've been seeing a lot of social media posts about Prado Farms recently so we decided to check it out.
It was a very lazy get-together weekend for us and Prado Farms was just the perfect venue for us. We particularly enjoyed the all-organic meals. But we probably spent the most time at the ground floor of our suites, where there are several tables and chairs that are very ideal for group huddles and marathon chit-chats. And did I already mention about the free-flowing coffee?
On our second day we went for a very leisurely tour of the farm, including the free-range livestock pens, the vegetable and fruit gardens, and a 5-star barn overlooking the rice field. The kids got to meet some farm animals, too, including a number of goats, a couple of ducks, and a cow.
On our third day we checked out the swimming pool and jacuzzi. The water was crystal clear and very inviting but everybody, except myself, was simply too lazy to go swimming. I went ahead to swim a few laps on my own. I had a relaxing time at the jacuzzi, too.
We were already all set to check out before lunch on our 3rd day when we realized that we haven't checked checked out 3 important features of the resort: (1) a visit to the treehouse; (2) a ride around the resort on a carabao-drawn kariton (cart); and (3) a visit to some restored old houses containing various family heirlooms, antique arts, and various memorabilia. We managed to do all 3 before finally checking out.
