Luanda est la capitale de l'Angola, un pays du sud-ouest de l'Afrique. Fondée en 1576 par Paulo Dias de Novais et initialement colonisée par les Portugais, Luanda devint le centre administratif de la colonie portugaise d'Angola en 1627. C'était un important débouché pour le trafic d'esclaves vers le Brésil. Luanda et sa zone métropolitaine sont la capitale lusophone la plus peuplée du monde et la ville lusophone la plus peuplée en dehors du Brésil, avec plus de 8,3 millions d'habitants en 2020. Capital of Africa’s second largest oil producer, Luanda is ANGOLA’s capital and largest city. It is a city of breathtaking beauty, deserts and rain forest. Although being a country haunted by its colonial past, LUANDA remains the beating heart of ANGOLA. From Kima to Luanda: Journeying Through Vihiga County's Spectacular Landscapes (#005)
Bunyore is a locality in the Vihiga County in the western province of Kenya. It is largely inhabited by Luhya, who speak the OLunyole dialect of the Luhya language. In the local language, the place is known as Ebunyore and its people as the Abanyore (the descendants of Nyore). It is divided into eight locations namely Central Bunyore, West Bunyore, South Bunyore, South-West Bunyore, East Bunyore, North Bunyore, North East Bunyore, and Wekhomo. Prior to 1990, Bunyore was under Kakamega District, divided into East and West Bunyore locations. As population increased, the former West Bunyore was split into Central, West, South and South West locations while the former East Bunyore was split into North, North East, Wekhomo and East Bunyore locations in order to better serve the people.
Bunyore is home to the national headquarters of the Church of God in Kenya, Bunyore Girls’ High School and Kima School of Theology all of which are located at Kima. Angola may take up a lot of space on the map of southern Africa, but it’s almost invisible when it comes to travel in this region. This former Portuguese colony is only just opening up to travellers, after 27 years of war left it cut off from the world. Both a civil conflict and a proxy Cold War, with the Soviet Union, Cuba, South Africa and the USA all involved and vying for mineral and oil resources, the war began after Angola won independence from Portugal in 1975 and continued until 2002.
You’ll need to join an organised tour to visit Angola. These are always small group trips, lasting around 10 days, and typically only departing once a year, starting and finishing in the capital Luanda. Tours rarely spend more than half a day or so here – enough time to see a few sights – before travelling into the southwest of Angola for a cultural tour that focuses on meeting ethnic groups and learning about their traditional lifestyles. Reaching this remote region involves an internal flight from Luanda to Lubango. From here, a 4x4 will transport you over rough roads and often trackless wilderness; expect some long and bumpy journeys.

The capital of Angola is full of stark contrasts. The beautiful Atlantic Ocean views are disrupted by busy ships and the high rise modern looking buildings are contrasted by lean to huts built to accommodate people in the rapidly expanding city. Over-population is apparent in other ways too, namely the insane morning traffic and the stink that regularly trouble the city. Despite all these problems however, Luanda certainly has its charms and is another side to Africa that is worth experiencing.
