CASTLE OF PALMELA: BEST PLACES TO GO AROUND LISBON, PORTUGAL | WHAT TO VISIT LISBON VLOG#13 (4K)

Once again I'm taking you out of Lisbon's city buzz! Just 40 minutes drive from Lisbon there's the Castle of Palmela - a defensive structure older than the Portuguese Nationality, with mesmerizing views over Troia Peninsula, Arrábida Natural Park and the city of Setúbal!

Welcome to my second travel vlog about things to do / places to visit around Lisbon!

My friends and I have adventured ourselves through a Windmill Route at Serra do Louro, a hike that allowed us to learn about the ancient history of bread making in Portugal and visit archaeological remains from the 2nd millennium B.C and Roman Times! Anyway, while we were hiking I couldn't take my eyes off the Castle of Palmela so we went there to explore it a little bit and film for you :)

We started our walk in Palmela city center, one of those places worth visiting around Lisbon... but I could barely stand on my feet so we've decided to drive uphill until we found the castle!

I will continue sharing the best of Portugal with you in future videos, so if you're enjoying my work so far... stay tuned for more!

My goal is to inspire your future trips through Portugal, and clarify the best places to visit, things to do, places to stay... among other important details connected with traveling in my country. I am a local, working full-time as a tour guide and travel consultant for 8 years now, so expect some honest feedback and accurate information about these places :)

If you're looking for a trusted guide to accompany your trip throughout Portugal, feel free to contact me anytime!

Enjoy this video and see you soon!

A Beautiful Hostel in Portugal: House of Sandeman

Don't sleep on hostels! They aren't all party places with drunk 20 year olds! Some are, but not all. In February 2023 I stayed 8 nights at the House of Sandeman in Gaia, right across the river from Porto in beautiful Portugal, and found it to be truly a gem. Yes, you have to share a room-- but it is centrally located, and for less than $20/night including breakfast (!!) I thought it was a tremendous deal. I really, really enjoyed my stay there and highly recommend it!! OH!! And you must try Sandeman port wine! Divine.

Bussaco Palace, a fairy-tale castle in an enchanted forest. Portugal (by Scenic Gems)

Resplendent in its overwhelming Manueline-gothic architecture, this legendary castle was built between 1888 and 1912 for the last Kings of Portugal.
The Bussaco Palace (Mata do Buçaco) is idyllically perched high on a hill in the heart of the Bussaco National Park.

Cheap couple Travel Portugal! - (Lisbon, Benagil, Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Algarve) - Dan & Ade 2018

After visiting Spain (previous travel video) our couple holidays continued in Portugal at end of August 2018. With a poor budget (lower than 350€/person) we enjoyed this incredible trip for one week where we had not time to get bored. Using Airbnb and Booking to compare prices is our best tip for you to save money.

We encourage all you to watch this holiday video like a Things to do / visit in Portugal, even in 2019.

So.. We went to the lovely Lisbon where all what we visited was totally free except of Quinta da Regaleira & Castelo dos Mouros (Sintra) - but it is worth the money! Taking advantage that we were close, we also visited Farol do Cabo da Roca and Beach Louriçal.
After, we went to Algarve, the south of Portugal. There we rented a Kayak for 45 minutes (BIG ERROR!! We needed at less double of that). We suggest booking it with time from Taruga Benagil Tours website so you don't have to lose time in the waiting line. Other incredible beaches which made us fall in love were: Praia dos Três Irmãos and Praia da Marinha (❤ Our favorite ❤).

▁▁▁▁▁▁PLACES WE VISITED IN 7 DAYS:▁▁▁▁▁▁

▸ 00:00 - Santuario Nacional de Cristo Rey (Lisbon - Almada)
▸ 00:07 - Ponte 25 de Abril (Lisbon)

We traveled through most of the country shooting as many locations as possible. On this trip we shot a little of everything. Some abandoned villas & houses, hospitals, and more. Cape Roca ⛰️ Westernmost point of Europe 2021

Cabo Da Roca or CAPE ROCA. Westernmost cape of continental Europe. West of Lisabon, Portugal. Filmed by me January 2021. Cape Roca is a cape which forms the westernmost point of the Sintra Mountain Range, of mainland Portugal, of continental Europe, and of the Eurasian land mass. It is situated in the municipality of Sintra, near Azóia, in the southwest of the district of Lisbon.
Cabo da Roca was known to the Romans as Promontorium Magnum and during the Age of Sail as the Rock of Lisbon.

The shoreline at Cabo de Roca

The cape is within the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, 42 kilometres west of the city of Lisbon and in the southwest of Sintra. A location (38°47′N 9°30′W) is inscribed on a stone plaque, located on a monument at the site.

The western coast is a mixture of sandy beaches and rocky cliff promontories: around Cabo da Roca, cliffs are more than 100 metres in height, and cut into crystalline rocks, composed of strongly folded and faulted sedimentary units. These forms are disturbed by dikes and small beaches. This promontory of high beaches is the extreme western immersion of the ancient eruptive Sintra massif, as evident from the rose-coloured granite in the north and syenite of the Ribeira do Louriçal in the south. In the vicinity of the Cape, there are geomorphological examples of gabbro-diorite, volcanic breccia, and granite.

Part of the granite formations show evidence of strong coastal erosion, while in other areas there are limestone deposits embedded in the granite.

Much of the vegetation on this cape is low-lying and adapted to saltwater and windy conditions. Once home to a variety of plant life, Cabo da Roca has been overrun with the invasive plant species Carpobrotus edulis. This creeping, mat-forming plant, a member of the Aizoaceae succulent family, was introduced as ground cover by local residents several decades ago, but now covers much of the arable land on Cabo da Roca.

Many migratory and marine birds roost temporarily along the cliffs and protected coves of the coastal area.

-----------------------------
The Cabo da Roca Lighthouse (Portuguese: Farol de Cabo da Roca) is a beacon/lighthouse located 165 metres (541 ft) above the Atlantic Ocean, on Portugal's (and continental Europe's) most westerly extent (Cabo da Roca). It is located in the civil parish of Colares, in the municipality of Sintra, situated on a promontory that juts out into the ocean, made up of granite boulders and interspersed limestone. It is a third-order lighthouse, which originally began operating in 1772. It was the first new purpose-built lighthouse to be constructed in the country: the older lighthouses in existence at that time, were constructed on existing platforms or from pre-existing beacons.

Main beacon on the lighthouse

The initiative to construct the lighthouse came from the Junta Geral da Fazenda do Reino on 1 February 1758, in an order to construct six lighthouses strategically throughout the country to assist navigation.

Cabo da Roca lighthouse began operating in 1772, becoming the third oldest lighthouse along the Portuguese coast.

During the management of civil engineer Gaudêncio Fontana (1843), the lighthouse was updated with a new rotation platform, comprising sixteen Argand lamps with parabolic reflectors.[5] Yet, by 1865, there were critics of the system, noting the inefficiency of the lighthouse. Over time this was addressed by the installation of a blow-horn signal and the renovation to electric-powered machines. The electrical lighthouse began functioning in 1897, with a system that included a backup petroleum lamp.[5] The main unit was a fourth-order optical system, with rotational platform and clock mechanism, and was paired with a steam siren.

In 1917 a building was constructed to produce the acetylene gas necessary to power a new lamp system.

A WEEKEND IN THE MOUNTAINS- SERRA DA GARDUNHA, PORTUGAL

Hi guys! How looooong! So this last weekend I went to Serra da Gardunha in Portugal and I did glamping (camping with glamour) for the first time in this amazing place that is called Natura Glamping and it was one of my favourite experiences of all the time and I really recommend it. I felt even more connected with myself and I felt so peaceful and relaxed. Everything there is ecologic and biologic and zero waste style and you could do everything without feeling guilty about your carbon footprint!

So I hope you like it and that you can feel all the energy of the place :)

I am not being paid for this recommendation but I couldn't keep all this just for me :p Have a good day!
