In our last video you saw us spending a few days along the coast in Savelletri - just south of the iconic cliffside town of Polignano a Mare. With a population of about 14,000, Puglia Locorotondo is a town and municipality within the Metropolitan City of Bari in Apulia, southern Italy. It is located in the Valle d'Itria, a verdant region of land filled with the well-known whitewashed, cone-roofed trulli homes, between Martina Franca and Alberobello. Puglia's Val D'Itria is home to the charming town of Locorotondo Italy, which is set above a hill.
Locorotondo, which translates to round place, is a charming little community. Small alleys, adorable balconies, and tiny corners peacefully soak up the Southern Italian sun in the citta's picture-perfect circular historical center, which evokes a leisurely and slow-paced way of life.
Locorotondo is one of Puglia's most beautiful towns, with a proudly preserved, readily walkable center and a quiet, relaxed attitude. These austere, angular buildings that dominate the center conceal the town's true shape, which is rotund, both horizontally (due to its circular street pattern) and vertically (it hugs the contours of the curvaceous hill on which it sits).
The medieval defensive walls are traced by a perimeter road that provides stunning views of the surrounding agricultural terrain, a patchwork of vineyards, olive groves, and trulli divided by dry-stone walls. Puglia Locorotondo is called as the balcony of the Valle d'Itria with good reason.
Because Alberobello, the center of the trulli industry, is nearby, Locorotondo is likely underappreciated by mass tourism. The town is one of the most picturesque tiny towns in all of Italy, having received the coveted title of borghi piu' belli di'italia, or Italy's most beautiful villages.
