Locarno is one of the most picturesque towns of Switzerland under the magnificent Swiss mountains. The town has all the wonderful attractions like lake, beach, mountain and mesmerizing scenery. The town also serves as an easy access point to the mountains. The Italian speaking town of Switzerland is located on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore. Locarno is not far from Bellinzona and most of the visitors enjoy the beauty of both towns including some magnificent valleys that are located between the two towns. The town of Ascona is situated on the opposite side of the Lake Maggiore.

The Locarno town is not only famous for its amazing scenery but also for the famous festivals including the Locarno International Film Festival. There are also traces of Leonardo da Vinci’s work in the Locarno castle. Locarno is also ideal for those visitors who are looking a warmer weather in Switzerland. The town is naturally designed by the beautiful palm and lemon trees which charm the visitors as they walk around in the streets.

Ticino TOP 10 Places to Visit: Lugano, Locarno, Bellinzona and much more in the Swiss Italian canton

If you are planning to visit Ticino, in Switzerland and close and close to the Italian border, I strongly recommend that you carefully select the places to visit. There are such wonderful places to discover! In this video, you’ll find the best tips on things to do in this region, with a sightseeing map of the most relevant points of interest to enjoy, so you can easily imagine and organize your trip: WHAT to see, HOW to plan your visit, and WHY to discover Ticino!

In this video:
- WHAT are the major attractions that you can't go home without having seen, including Morcote, Verzasca valley and Corippo, Ascona, Bellinzona and its Tibetan bridge, Locarno,
Bellinzona, Lugano, Foroglio.
- Then, I’ll describe HOW to follow a tour to better visit Ticino, with a clear map of the region.
- Finally, we’ll discover WHY to visit Ticino, with its heritage and nature.

But let’s start from the beginning: Ticino, south of Switzerland or, if you want, the Italian flair of Switzerland!
Yes, there is a feel of Italy, looking for example at the alleys that lead to squares and promenades.
But the Alps are always close by.
From mountains to Ticino's lakes, you can enjoy your time in the colder season and in the summertime, letting yourself immerse in all its nature and historical heritage.
So, what are the best attractions you cannot miss if you visit this wonderful land?

MORCOTE
From the city of Lugano you can easily reach the former fishing village of Morcote, one of the most frequently photographed places in Ticino, voted Switzerland's most beautiful village in 2016. A spectacular Way of the Cross leads up about 400 steps to the church of Santa Maria del Sasso.

VALLE VERZASCA
Verzasca Valley is the most fascinating valley of Ticino, to be experienced at the bottom for romantics and families, and at high altitude for the adventurous. Visit the picturesque double arches of the Ponte dei Salti, in Lavertezzo. Walk the Boccia al Bosco trail where, with a 'boccia' ball in your hand, you can walk and have fun in the woods. At the entrance to the valley is the Verzasca dam, where James Bond once jumped! And, in this valley, you can also admire the village of Corippo.

ASCONA
Ascona is a real treasure! It’s the lowest Switzerland town, located at 196 meters above sea level, and it’s famous for its mild climate, the Old Town and the lake promenade.

BELLINZONA
In Bellinzona, the capital of Ticino, you can explore narrow streets and squares, examples of centuries of history written by Romans, Lombards and Swiss. Picturesque corners, courtyards and neo-Classical facades, can remember you a Lombardy town. The skyline of Bellinzona is defined by three of the best-preserved medieval castles in Switzerland, which are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

PONTE TIBETANO CARASC
The tibetan bridge Carasc allows the passage of the rugged valley that separates the communities of Sementina and Monte Carasso, two villages located in front of Bellinzona. It is a unique experience to go through its 270 meters, at 130 m above the ground!

LOCARNO
Locarno, located on the northern shore of Lago Maggiore, is the town with the warmest climate in Switzerland. Palm trees and lemon trees give the city its special charm. The heart of the city is Piazza Grande. Castello Visconteo, a castle dating back to the 12th century, lies at the edge of the Old Town. But maybe the best attraction of the city, with its extraordinary view, is the church of Madonna del Sasso.

BELLINZONA-LOCARNO CYCLE ROUTE ALONG THE TICINO RIVER
50 kilometers (31 miles) of cycle path surrounded by greenery and along the Ticino river.
Here the link to the GPS route:

LUGANO
Lugano, the largest town of Ticino, is not only the Switzerland's third most important financial centre, but also a town of parks, villas and sacred buildings. By the lakeside promenade are the Belvedere Gardens.

FOROGLIO
In the scenic village of Foroglio you can find peace, stone houses called “Rustici”, and an amazing waterfall. It’s probably the most beautiful village to visit in Ticino along with Morcote, Ascona and Corippo.

FOOD TIPS
The final bonus track is of course about food: in Ticino you can taste polenta, minestrone, risotto and much more.
Bellinzona:
Locarno:
Lugano:
Try the Marnin’s sweet focaccia here in Locarno: Sant'Antonio square, 6600 Locarno, Switzerland

Top 10 Villages of SWITZERLAND – Most beautiful Swiss Towns – Best Places [Full Travel Guide]

Switzerland is a small country full of surprises and wonderful villages. Since decades, Switzerland has been attracting numerous tourists from allover the world. It is the Alps that fascinates most of the visitors but also the very well preserved villages. Although Switzerland is quite small, depending on the region, the villages and towns may look very different. In this video, the 10 most beautiful villages from allover the country will be presented in detail. While there may be a few that you might have heard of, there will be quite some surprises. Gruyères is THE place to experience the medieval vibes in Switzerland. The castle, the museums and furthermore the foodie world of Gruyères are really exciting to experience, do not forget to try fondue, Gruyère cheese and double cream! Zermatt is the most popular village on this list. Visit the many panoramas over the Swiss Alps, see the Matterhorn or simply explore the village of Zermatt itself! Discover the many beautiful traditional wooden houses scattered around this Swiss village! Visit what used to be the smallest municipality of Switzerland: Corippo. Corippo is located in the Valle Verzasca in Ticino. It's a wonderful village full of stone houses and very interesting: ONLY 12 people live in there! Surely, it's not crowded there. Saint-Ursanne is another medieval village; the town that could be in a fairytale. Saint-Ursanne is built along the river doubs and charms with its many medieval houses and wonderful abbey. Guarda - the town of Schellenursli - in the lower Engadin is located in the Rumantsch speaking region of Switzerland. It's far away the urban centres and very quiet. Best to visit during Summer or on Chalandamarz! Grimentz is THE stereotypical village of Switzerland. It's located up in the Swiss Alps and charms with its many traditional wooden houses. The houses are all decorated with red flowers; cheesy and alluring! Lauterbrunnen is another touristy favorite. The village is small but it's located in the Valley of 72 Waterfalls! Enjoy the scenery with its many waterfalls and greens! Do not forget to go up to Wengen and the Jungfraujoch! Epesses is located in Switzerland's wine region at lake Geneva! It's a wonderful village in the middle of the vineyards and definitely offers you enough viewpoints over the wine terraces, lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps. Stein am Rhein is also a very medieval and cultural village. The old town is perfectly preserved and charms with its many painted houses. Spectacular is the No e Wili play that is held on a 10-25 years base. Enjoy swimming in the river Rhine or dining at the Castle Hohenklingen. MORCOTE is the most beautiful Swiss village on this Top 10 list! It's located at Lake Lugano and charms with its appearance of being built at the hill. Stunning is the church Maria del Sasso, the wonder garden in the Parco Scherrer and furthermore the many viewpoints on the hill. Morcote is by the way considered not very touristy. Thus perfect to rank 1st among the Top 10 Villages of Switzerland! WATCH the ENTIRE VIDEO in 4K!

WHAT TO DO IN SWITZERLAND IN SUMMER? (VISIT TICINO, DUH!!!)????????

GRAND TOUR OF SWITZERLAND EP #3: TICINO!

What happens when you mix dolce vita, wine, palm trees and the melodious Italian language with Switzerland? Top 10 SWISS Villages - Most beautiful towns of SWITZERLAND [Full Travel Guide]

Switzerland is a rather small country but has plenty of beautiful villages. Many of them have maintained their traditional appearance, which has attracted numerous tourists from all over the world. The diversity of the Swiss villages has fascinated many visitors, whichever region you visit, the villages all look unique and different. Some people say that you only will get to feel the authentic villages, when you choose to visit one or more of the many traditional villages. But which ones are worth to visit? With this video, I proudly present you my TOP 10 MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES OF SWITZERLAND for the year 2023 in detail. I am sure that you may be familiar with a few of these 10 villages, but the majority on this list will most likely be new to you! This is likely the most detailed travel guide video about Swiss villages here on YouTube! Wonderful Marthalen lays in northern Switzerland in Zürich’s wine land region. The village charms with its many wood frame houses and alleys. Marthalen is best to be visited during Spring and Summer, when the entire landscape shines in green. Nearby attractions would be the village of Rheinau with its monastery and the Rhine falls, Europe’s tallest river waterfall. Gandria in Ticino is a beautiful hanging fishing village just at the boarder to Italy. Gandria is best to be visited by boat from Lugano, Morcote or Porlezza. The village has numerous stairs and alleys and feels like a maze, quite exciting! Poschiavo is located in the Italian-speaking part of the canton of Graubünden. The village is rather large and the most alive among all of these villages on this Top 10 list. The village also has a very interesting history one can learn about in the three local museums. Lessoc is a rather secret village located in Fribourg. It’s less noticed due to the more famous nearby towns of Gruyères and Château d’Oex. Lessoc is great for those visitors who want to avoid crowds. Sonogno is the uppermost village in the very touristy Valle Verzasca. It’s very popular among Swiss and German visitors but remains rather unknown to the rest of the world. The village charms with its traditional stone houses and alleys. Albinen is the hidden gem of this list. It’s very similar to Grimentz but the core is larger and there are more details to discover. The village is very raw, alone this fact is a strong reason for anyone to come here. Albinen is best to be combined with nearby Leukerbad, the Swiss oasis of wellness. Morcote remains a favorite for anyone who loves alluring villages. It’s similar to Gandria but busier. Consider climbing the hill to enjoy a great vista down to the church. Lungern is probably the most popular village on this Top 10 villages list. Lungern has been admired for its green hills and turquoise lake, definitely a wonderful alpine oasis to visit. Iseltwald, the winner of Last years’ Top 10 villages list does not seize to amaze its visitors. The village is full of these wonderful wooden houses that well blend with the lake and the green hills. Iseltwald is great to be included into a holiday at Interlaken. The winner of this year’s Top 10 Swiss Villages is Bosco Gurin! This place remains very raw despite its incredible beauty! Bosco Gurin is the perfect serene village one would seek to find. Enjoy walking around in the many alleys, spotting the traditional stone and wooden houses and enjoy the alpine environment. Locarno is a Swiss town on the shores of Lago Maggiore. Its famous for its Italian flair (dolce vita), wonderful location among hills and the lake and its yearly film festival. Because of its warm climate, Locarno is also called the city of flowers. The Piazza Grande, the popular main square, is perfect for a coffee or a lunch. The old town, just behind the square, is full of boutiques and small alleys. If you go higher up the hills you get a great view of the surroundings, even the neighbouring city of Ascona. If you wan to go even higher up, you can visit Madonna del Sasso (famous pilgrimage church) or up to Cardada, the mountain behind Locarno.

If you visit Locarno, you will be at a great hub to explore the Canton of Ticino. Locarno Switzerland

travel videos & photos at: with text, maps & links.
This is the southern part of Switzerland in the region known as the Ticino where we are visiting the town of Locarno, a pretty little resort town along the shores of Lake Maggiore. It's a fascinating region of Europe with the best of both worlds: the romance of Italy and the efficiency of Switzerland, making the perfect combination. This town has an Italian feeling even though we are still in Switzerland. Most of the locals don't speak any Swiss German or French -- just Italian and perhaps a little English, especially those who are working in the shops and restaurants. Shop clerks and waiters are multilingual and so you don't have any problem getting taken care of, even in the little villages nearby. You can easily find pizza and pasta, because the main cuisine here is Italian.
The old town is lined with narrow streets, and in the center cars are prohibited – it is strictly for pedestrians which makes the town lovely for walking. Nice and quiet and peaceful here and there are a few little hotels sprinkled around in the old town, and of course some excellent restaurants and a variety of shops and historic sites, including a castle and several old churches in the Italian Baroque style, with charming old-fashioned architecture throughout. Piazza Grande is the main square with a picturesque arcade along one side with lots of restaurants, gelatto shops, cafés and little stores to browse in, with a nearby morning food market. They also have a casino where you could try your luck.

Locarno's Old Town extends for about six blocks by four blocks so it's not really huge but it's big enough to enjoy a nice stroll and browse in the shops, art galleries and antique stores. Shopkeepers are friendly and welcome you to come in to look around. You’ll find quite a few modern stores intermingled with the old, scattered among the hidden lanes and quiet spaces in the back of the town. There's a nice shady, cozy feeling in the narrow alleys where you can walk from one end to the other. and there are some smaller piazzas tucked away on the side streets as well. You could easily spend a few hours just meandering and strolling, getting a little bit lost -- but you'll quickly find your way again in such a little place this.
