Bikepacking Czech Republic - DAY 4 - Litoměřice to Mělník
On our 4th day of bikepacking across the Czech Republic, we leave Litoměřice, visit Terezín and Roudnice Nad Labem before arriving to Mělník. In Terezín we visit the 18th century Fortress and the World War 2 Holocaust Memorial(Teresienstadt). In Roudnice nad Labem we explore the Roudnice Chateau/Castle(Zámek Roudnice) that was once owned by the House of Lobkowicz (Lobkovicové), and in Mělník we try some more wines.

Vítejte v okrese Litoměřice.
Můžete navštívit třeba filmaři oblíbený zámek Ploskovice. Natáčel se tu například film Amadeus nebo pohádka Princ a Večernice.
O pár kilometrů dál se můžete procházet po pláži jezera Chmelař, které je na dohled od města Úštěk. Statut města má Úštěk již od konce 14. století. Zajímavostí jsou určitě dřevěné přístavky na pískovcové stěně, tzv. Ptačí domky.
Na východním okraji okresu je malá obec Hoštka.
Na pravé břehu řeky Labe leží dvoutisícové město Štětí s bohatou historií. Třeba zde, na Husově náměstí, byla ve středověku tržní osada. Ve městě sídlí známý producent papíru, firma Mondi.
Jedním z významných centrem litoměřického okresu je Roudnice nad Labem. Roudnice je zajímavým dopravním uzlem, protože se sem můžete dostat autem, autobusem, vlakem, lodí či letadlem. Nedaleko stojí uprostřed krajiny hora Říp.
Dnešní doba, ať chceme nebo ne, se nese ve znamení stresu. A tady, ve Mšených Lázních, si můžete od toho všeho shonu odpočinout.
Milovníci gotiky si jistě přijdou na své při návštěvě vodního hradu v Budyni nad Ohří. V 18. století začal hrad postupně chátrat a následně byla zbořena jeho dvě křídla.
Jiným turistickým lákadlem litoměřického okresu je zámek Libochovice. Kromě zámku si určitě prohlédněte i přilehlý park plný květin a pávů.
Jestliže je něco dlouhé, pak je to dlouhé jako Lovosice. Město má na délku vážně asi 4 kilometry. Město se, díky své unikátní poloze na břehu řeky Labe, na železniční trati Praha – Berlín a v blízkosti dálnice D8 do Německa, stalo přirozeným centrem mezinárodního obchodu.
Určitě poznáváte, že jsme v Terezíně, který se na mapu dějin dostal kvůli nacistickému koncentračnímu táboru pro židy. Dnes už nám tyto hrůzy připomíná jen Památník a Muzeum.
Litoměřice, královské město, město, podle kterého se celý okres jmenuje, leží na soutoku řek Labe a Ohře. Zajímavé historické centrum je městskou památkovou rezervací. Dalším skvostem jsou parkány a na Dómském náměstí stojící katedrála svatého Štěpána.
Bohuslav Balbín o této krajině již v 17. století napsal:
„Právem se tato krajina nazývá rájem Čech, vše je zde neobyčejně úrodné, ať máš na mysli plodiny jakéhokoliv druhu, utěšené zahrady, kopce porostlé osením a horské stráně ozdobené vinicemi.“

Solo Traveller Suhel at Litoměřice Town, Czech Republic
An unexpected short bike trip to Lenka's favourite town Litomerice (which is sometimes called little Prague). Spontaneous actions are always the best. And when you have the right partner even such a thing as eating ice-cream can turn into fun and special occasion.
While eating ice-cream we took a shot of Litomerice's square. And we were lucky enough to hear the church bells telling the time by their ringing sounds (1 ringing=quarter past; 2=half past; 3=quarter to and 4=o'clock + the number of rings according to time - 6 o'clock = 4 ringings + 6 ringings). And at the end there was a bike coming which is not that frequent in Czechia as in India.

On our 3rd day of bikepacking across the Czech Republic, we leave Karlovy Vary in route to Litoměřice. First we grab a train from Karlovy Vary to Ústí nad Labem (2 hours), then we meet up with two more riders who will be guiding us fo a couple of days(Michal and Janek).

Ferdinand Blumentritt (September 10, 1853, Prague - September 20, 1913, Litoměřice ) was a teacher, secondary school principal in Leitmeritz , lecturer, and author of articles and books in the Philippines and its ethnography. He is well known in the Philippines for his close friendship with the writer and propagandist José Rizal , and the numerous correspondence between the two provide a vital reference for Rizal historians and scholars, including his last letter from prison before the execution.
Blumentritt wrote extensively about the Philippines, although he never visited the islands, corresponding with the then Filipino student and writer José Rizal , who later became a national hero. Blumentritt's relationship with Rizal began as early as July 1886. [2] Blumentritt became one of Rizal's closest confidants although they met only once. He translated a chapter of the latter's first book, Noli Me Tangere , into German and wrote the preface to Rizal's second book, El filibusterismo, although he was against its publication as he believed that it would lead to Rizal's death. These two novels are commentaries disguised as fiction which angered both the Catholic Church and the Spanish colonial government, and which eventually led to Rizal's 1896 trial and execution. Before the execution in Manila , Rizal wrote his final letter for Blumentritt. [3] [4] Blumentritt reportedly cried after receiving the letter.
Alongside Rizal, Blumentritt was a significant contributor to the publication La Solidaridad , published by Filipino expatriates from 1889 to 1895 as a voice for advocacy of political reforms in the Philippines. [5] From 1900, Blumentritt was a member of the Berlin Society for Anthropology.
Flower kick died in Litoměřice (German: Leitmeritz ), Bohemia. He is memorialized in the Philippines by numerous public parks and streets. Among them are Blumentritt Road , Blumentritt station (Line 1) , Blumentritt railway station , the Blumentritt Market in Metro Manila and the Blumentritt Street in Naga City and Tuguegarao . His relations with Rizal also caused the twin status of the Czech town of Litoměřice with the Philippine towns of Calamba (Rizal's birthplace) and Dapitan (where Rizal was initially exiled). Cycle Tour Day 33 Krompach to Litomĕřice 67km
Connal Tours European Cycling Adventure. The ABC Tour - Adriatic to the Baltic Cycling Tour.
Cycle Day 33: Krompach to Litomĕřice (Czech Republic). 67.4km (920vm). Czech hills & countryside. With hills we got the views. Sunny & beautiful - around 30 degrees all day. 12% bits today but we conquered. Cycle paths not such a built infrastructure in Czech - rather they make use of minor roads which seem to criss-cross through the farmlands and over the hills. Our route kept us off busy roads, took us along quiet country roads and through many small villages. It was really quite a stunning ride. Wildlife again today - a frisky deer startled from his shady resting spot where we stopped for a break. Another stork perched high on a chimney top. More larger herds of cattle. An evening exploring Litomĕřice - 10thC, oldest city in Czech. Huge Peace Square (rectangle) with lots of large trees, fountains, Plague Column, and hundreds of parking spaces (mainly full). Town fortifications including a small, terraced vineyard.
Day 33 of 7 weeks cycling the 2400km from south coast to north coast in Europe and a little bit extra.
