Linz am Rhein city walk in 4K ???????? - August 2023
I did a short trip through Germany and Belgium starting from the Netherlands. My first stop was at Bonn and from there I did a day trip to Linz am Rhein. They day was a bit special, I got sun, rain and wind. Despite that, it was an enjoyable trip there, my only regret is not continuing until Koblenz, a city a bit more to the south, on the banks of the Rhine
On this video I’m just going to walk the city, and show you a bit of it.

Linz am Rhein is a municipality in the district of Neuwied, in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. It is situated on the right bank of the river Rhine near Remagen, approx. 25 km southeast of Bonn and has about 6,000 inhabitants.

Die Stadt Linz ist beliebt und bekannt bei Alt und Jung und sie ist eines der meist besuchten Ausflugsziele am Rhein zwischen Köln und Koblenz. Mit dem Slogan Bunte Stadt am Rhein wirbt das schmucke Städtchen, das neben den sehenswerten Fachwerkhäusern rund um den Marktplatz eine ganze Menge mehr zu bieten hat.
Auch ein Einkaufsbummel durch die Linzer Altstadt ist von ganz besonderem Reiz, denn in der „Bunten Stadt am Rhein“ vereinen sich das malerische Flair des historischen Fachwerks mit den liebevollen und inhabergeführten Geschäften. Ob traditionelles Handwerk oder individuelle „Schatztruhe“.
Die Stadt Linz wurde erstmals 874 in einer Urkunde erwähnt. Im Mittelalter, mit Verleihung der Stadtrechte, wurde das heutige Stadtbild geprägt und die Burg als Teil der Wehrmauern erbaut. Um 1517 erfolgte der Bau des Rathauses, in dem auch heute noch die Stadtverwaltung befindet.
1858 legen die ersten Dampf-Schiffe in Linz an, Ausflügler und Touristen sind seitdem im Sommer ständige Gäste im historischen Stadtkern. Leider wurden im 19. Jahrhundert große Teile der Stadtbefestigung abgerissen, weil man sie als überholt betrachtete. Einige Stadttore und ein Pulverturm blieben jedoch erhalten und tragen heute mit den vielen Fachwerkhäusern in den engen Gassen zum romantischen Flair von Linz bei.
Mit dem Bau der Erzbischöfliche Burg Linz wurde um das Jahr 1365 begonnen. Sie diente den Kölner Erzbischöfen als Bollwerk zur Verteidigung ihrer rechtsrheinischen Besitztümer. Die Folterkammer im Keller ist heute zu besichtigen.
Die ältesten Bauteile der alten Pfarrkirche St. Martin in Linz sind um 1206 im Stil der Romanik errichtet worden. Die monumentalen Wandmalereien im Innenraum sind zwischen 1240 bis 1250 aufgebracht worden. Das alte Triptychon des Altares ist heute in der neuen Kirche St. Marien aufgestellt. Die ehemalige Kapuzinerkirche, erbaut von 1642-45 als barocke Stadtkirche, wird heute als Stadthalle genutzt.
Ein Besuch in der bei Touristen sehr geschätzte Stadt Linz am Rhein ist absolut empfehlenswert.

Short motorcycle ride on a Royal Enfield and hike through the Kasbachtal at Linz am Rhein. The hike starts at Gary Blackburn's Little Britain in Kalenborn and leads to the brewery Steffens near Linz am Rhein on a feeder trail of the Rheinsteig. The Kasbachtalbahn is a non-electrified, single-track branch line, which originally connected 35.2 km Linz (Rhine) (right Rhine line) with Flammersfeld (Holzbachtalbahn). It ran between Wiedmühle and Peterslahr in the valley of the river Wied, between Linz on the Rhine and Kalenborn it runs in the valley of the stream Kasbach.
Since April 4, 1999 on the 8.9 km long remaining section between Linz am Rhein and Kalenborn by the Eifelbahn Verkehrsgesellschaft mbH (EVG) a tourist traffic with Uerdinger rail busses offered. It takes place on weekends from March to December and Wednesdays from May to October every hour.
The railway line is one of the steepest sections of Germany. The biggest gradient is 5.7%, the difference in altitude between Linz am Rhein and Kalenborn is around 300 m.

Linz am Rhein ist eine wunderbare kleine Stadt mit unzähligen Fachwerkhäuser, kleinen Geschäften und netten Leuten.
Durch die direkte Lage am Rhein und dem Siebengebirge bietet dieser schöne Ort auch noch alternative Möglichkeiten seine Zeit an der frischen Luft zu verbringen.
Besonders in den warmen Monaten des Jahres lockt die Stadt mit Märkten und Festen.
Fazit: Auf jeden Fall sehr sehenswert!
