TAIWANESE NOODLE FEAST AT LIN DONG FANG BEEF NOODLES | TAIPEI DAY 1

臺北面宴 NOODLE FEAST IN TAIPEI | TAIWANESE CUISINE | TAIWAN 2019

This video will showcase our first full day in Taipei. We left the hotel late in the afternoon and went straight to eat noodle soup. The noodle soup restaurant that we chose to eat first is the LIN DONG FANG BEEF NOODLES. As always, the soup did not fail us. We liked it and we highly recommend for you to try. After the restaurant, we walked around and stopped by COSMED to shop some Asian beauty products such as facial masks. Right before we ended our first full day, we pass by a laundry place called THE ORANGE DRY CLEANERS to do some laundry for baby clothes. It was our first time use this kind of laundry service. We find it amazing and fun. Overall, our first day was good despite our late start. Find out more of our Taipei adventure in our next video...!!!

In Shanghai over Golden Week along with millions of Chinese on their weeklong vacation, we ventured onto Nanjing Road. Known as one of the World's Busiest Shopping Streets, the east, pedestrianized section begins at the bund.

After 10 minutes of futile attempt to see anything or even walk, we threw in the hat.

Jinling East Road is the only arcade-style street full of southern charm in Shanghai. After the Opium War, many Cantonese residents migrated and lived here. Therefore, a Cantonese arcade building was built (the arcade building is also called crossing the street, and a layer is added in front of the western building. Corridor, the second floor is like riding on the first floor, so the first floor presents a long corridor style, which is very stylish and protects pedestrians from rain.) In addition, it was once a French concession. For many Western European-style Renaissance-style buildings, the carved patterns on the exterior walls have also witnessed the changes in the city.
In 2020, the reconstruction project of Jinling East Road will be officially launched. In the future, commercial plots will be developed as much as possible while retaining those exotic arcade-style buildings, but their original buildings and features will disappear.

This video was made to accompany a presentation at the European association of Taiwan Studies International Conference in 2011. It features the 'Money God' temple Zi Nan Gong 紫南宮 and free gifts of money.

This was the first temple in Taiwan to give fortune money. At that time, the village comprised of several local landlords who had ambitions to make money in Taipei, and a small agricultural community. Although the exact date has been forgotten, the vice manager of the temple Mr Chen 陳俊郎 recollects the first occasion on which fortune money was given in the late 1930s. The landlords had been to Taipei, but found no success in business, and returned to the village to ask for the assistance of the temple deities. The temple committee of 12 met, and a decision was reached that lucky money could be given, so long as the temple deities agreed. The agreement was attained through the use of bua bue, and the landlords returned to Taipei where their businesses were successful. The very first person to be given money was a Mr. Zhang 張, followed by the other landlords, and the temple stipulated that the money had to be returned within one year.

Since the 1950s, the process has become ritualized. Generally in Taiwan, it is common for temple visits to rise incrementally with the size, state and condition of the roads and transport availability. When the temple first lent money to local villagers, there was only a dirt road which had been constructed by the Japanese. By the 1960s there was a tarmac road, and now access to the village is on a four lane road with parking facilities for several hundred cars and coaches.

西港刈香 - 送王 ( Ritual of Royal Lords boat in Xigang )

Many people in Taiwan believe in Taoism , a religion combines with spirit of Buddhism and theory of Tao which was developed in China at about 600 B.C.

Quite different from other major religions in the world, Taoism believe that if human have good behavior when they are alive, they can become gods after passing away. Therefore, there are many temples in Taiwan where various gods are worshiped.

This video records ritual of Royal Lords boat in Xigang , a village in south-Taiwan. The Royal Lords are gods that transform from plague-spreading spirits. They are in name of some good men in history. To know the reason why boat ritual, we have to trace back to ancient time. It is due to ignorance toward disease , people believe that plague is punishment from the gods. To avoid the punishment, in a period of time, people invited the plague gods to visit their village, treat the gods with sacrifices, and then send them away by boats. At the beginning, the boats were expelled by floating in rivers, but now the boats are burned.
Although the terrible plague gods are now replaced by Royal Lords who protect villages by expelling plagues, and other bad things, the ritual of boat burning is retained.
