EXPLORING ILIGAN, MINDANAO---THE CITY OF MAJESTIC WATERFALLS | TRAVEL GUIDE | Day See

Iligan is known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls. The most well known is the Maria Cristina Falls on Agus River. It is the main source of hydro electric power in the whole Mindanao region. I feel so lucky because I used to only see this in my elementary books and now, I finally see it in my own naked eyes :D

Short trip to Iligan City and first time for a Filipino to visit Tinago falls - Vlog #07

We went to Iligan city for a short road trip. It's a 1 hour drive from Cagayan de City (depending on the traffic in CDO).

The Macapagal-Macaraeg Ancestral House has been declared a heritage house by the National Historical Institute last August 14, 2002. It is considered as the first house in the Philippines where two of the country's Presidents lived – Diosdado Macapagal, the 9th President of the Philippines and his daughter Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the 14th President of the Philippines.

The house was constructed in 1950 and it is made of wood and concrete cement. Since it was donated by former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, the city government of Iligan has exerted its best efforts for the maintenance of the house.

LAAGAN SA ILIGAN: A TRIP TO LANAO DEL NORTE'S CITY OF MAJESTIC WATERFALLS ⛲ A Northern Mindanao Trip

#IliganCity #NorthernMindanao #LanaoDelNorte #LaaganSaIligan #Mindanao

Another solo backpacking experience and this is the farthest I've been from my home so far!

After my Camiguin trip, I headed back to Cagayan de Oro in Misamis Oriental to go white water rafting. But unfortunately, the minimum number of pax was not met for the said activity. There were no other tourists booked for that day. Haaay joiner life.

I decided to proceed to my next plan. I made a quick side-trip to REDGs Green Village Camping Site and Wellness Hub in Naawan, Misamis Oriental and then headed to Iligan City, Lanao del Norte.

Iligan is known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls because of the presence of numerous waterfalls in it. There are 23 waterfalls to be exact, as per the local government, and we were able to visit three of them.

First, we dropped by the Paseo de Santiago, a park where you can see the iconic 'PHILIPPINES' and 'ILIGAN CITY' sign, and a relief map of the Philippine archipelago.

The next stop is the popular Maria Christina Falls, which I used to see in elementary textbooks. It is the primary source of electric power for the city's industries, being harnessed by the National Power Corporation. The place is currently restricted to tourists and not open to the public, but I was lucky enough to be allowed to take a quick peek inside since I mentioned I traveled far just to see its wonder in person.

After that, we went to Mimbalot Falls, one of the most accessible falls in the city. Located in Brgy. Buru-un, this waterfall is the most appealing to me and a very picturesque small-sized fall.

Lastly, we visited Tinago Falls, which literally means “hidden” in Filipino. This waterfall is hidden in a deep, narrow valley with steep sides, and to get there, you must descend 300+ steps. The place is a good venue for swimming and cliff diving. Additionally, there is a tiny cave alongside the falls that can only be reached by swimming or rafting.

On our way back to my accommodation, we drove along Maria Christina Bridge, where you can get a view of the cascading Agus River or the top view of Maria Christina Falls.

Overall, this was a fun and memorable experience. I cannot wait to come back to Mindanao and explore more!

???? How to get here?

From Laguindingan Airport in Cagayan de Oro as entry point, ride a van going to Bulua Integrated Bus Terminal.
Ride a bus going to Iligan Integrated Bus and Jeepney Terminal.

Tinago Falls is a waterfall on the Agus River, located in between the town of Linamon and Iligan City, Lanao del Norte in the northern part of the Philippine island of Mindanao. It is one of the main tourist attractions of Iligan, a city known as the City of Majestic Waterfalls.

Tinago is a Filipino term meaning hidden, the falls being hidden in a deep ravine. Trekking to the falls requires approximately 500 descending steps called the winding staircase.

The falls is high, its very cold waters cascading beautifully into a deep and calm basin-like pool which appears like a blue-colored lagoon. Under the falls is a small cave where people can enter and listen to the rumbling waters.

Beautiful Beach Sunset at Lanao del Norte (Philippines)

Please take a couple seconds to hit subscribe and turn on notifications. I would very much appreciate it :)

I couldn't put to words how fascinating the sunset was. The camera can only portray half of the beauty I saw in person. The tide was at its lowest I've seen this year. And the best thing? There was a rainbow which I haven't seen in such a long time.

Tinago Falls - Iligan's one of the main tourist attractions

Tinago falls is one of the most famous waterfalls in Iligan, the city of waterfalls. It is renowned after the most famous Maria Christina Falls.Tinago Falls is located in the heart of the deep ravine between Brgy. Ditucalan and the Municipality of Linamon Lanao del Norte. Lanao del Norte is home to several waterfalls, lakes, and valleys. It is endowed with interesting lowland and highland natural spots, famous of which is the Tinago Falls in the town of Linamon.
