In this episode we set out via Chinese bullet train (aka 高铁, or gāotiě) and head for Jilin City.
Jilin City is (unsurprisingly) in the province of the same name, Jilin Province. In Mandarin it's written as 吉林.
To be honest, I arrived in Jilin with rather low expectations. Jilin City isn't a place that you often hear people talk about, particularly as a day trip/travel destination. I have to admit, this was one of those times where I turned out to be pleasantly surprised.
One of the best features of Jilin City is that the wide and beautiful Songhua River (松花江) runs right through the city and out in the distance you can see mountains as well.
In this video we take to the streets and see what all Jilin has to offer. Whether it's the majestic Songhua River or the magnificent Jilin Catholic Church, or even the Jilin Meteorite Museum (that holds the world's heaviest meteorite), I think you'll be just as pleasantly surprised as I was!

2.6km (210-car) long coal train - one of the longest trains in the world. Daqin Railway, China
The double-track electrified Daqin Railway connects the port of Qinhuangdao to the coal-rich area of Datong in northern China. The line is almost exclusively used for coal transport, running fully loaded eastbound (towards the port) and empty westbound (like this train here). Each train carries up to 20,000t of coal, and there are around 100 train pairs daily, meaning that on average every 15 minutes one of these trains travel along this line. That's quite a lot of coal! 400 million metric tons a year, in fact.

吉林長白山 백두산
長白山是中國東北最高峰，在多個北方民族的神話傳說中都被視為「神山」及本民族的發祥地。長白山也是中國和朝鮮(北韓)的界山，松花江、圖們江和鴨綠江三條江的發源地。
天池位於長白山頂。屬火山口湖，水面高2257公尺，面積為9.165平方公里，周長14.4公里，水深平均213.43公尺，最深384公尺，水量為19億5,500萬立方公尺，是中國最深的湖泊。
